Please put at least one 5 sentence paragraph about what your character looks like. Do they have scars? A weird birthmark? What clothes do they wear? Do they have muscles?
Annelise isn’t a bad person, but she has a lot to keep off the surface.
Teleportation ~ Expert
Annelise can teleport anywhere at a moment’s notice. It’s easier for her to teleport to places she’s been before, but she can also teleport in general directions (e.g. 5 miles north) but she risks ending up crashing into an object. The further she teleports the more it takes out of her. If her lamp is rubbed she’ll be forced to teleport to it immediately and trying to resist leaves her with little energy to spare.
Flight ~ Beginner
She has the ability to fly without wings, but she rarely needs to use it and so it’s not a very developed talent. Flying for more than half an hour or carrying someone else would take a lot of energy out of her.
Desire Reading ~ Moderate
Annelise can tell what people want by looking at them. Over time she’s developed this ability instinctively. She doesn’t always want to know what people really want, but she doesn’t have enough control to block out the ability. Because of her lack of focus she tends to notice one desire above all others and not look for other things, so she may mistake someone who has overall good intentions for a bad person because of the first thing she picks up on.
Sand Manipulation ~ Beginner
She can create and manipulate sand. She has never really used this ability except when she’s bored and there happens to be sand nearby and she’s not capable of moving large amounts of sand with any sort of focus.
Greed Inducement ~ Beginner
Annelise can enhance people’s greed. She rarely does this intentionally but sometimes when she wants to help someone and they won’t let her she’ll trigger this ability so they’ll be more open to her attempts.
Born to a noble family of Djinni in 14th century England, Annelise’s life was set to be a good one. Her parents were close advisors to the Tudor family when she was born. It was presumed that Henry VIII liked to keep them around for their supposed wish granting abilities, but materialistic desires only scratched the surface of what her father offered the unpredictable king. He was also a skilled tactician and was put in charge of organizing the secret forces that protected the monarch.
As a result of his position, his children were raised with the best tutors of the time. While Annelise was taught the value of her own beauty when it came to how others saw her, any truly selfish tendencies that weren’t backed by a good reason were cracked down on. “We spoil others, we don’t fall for our own traps.” The warning always came with a too-tight grip around her arm or a slap depending on how public their location.
When she was 8, King Henry died, replaced by the child king Edward VI. The simple matter of the boy’s age left him vulnerable and Annelise’s father became far busier with his work keeping the young king safe. Her mother was busy taking care of Annelise’s new baby brother. Although her lessons kept her busy most of the day, in her free time she was left idle. She’d been kept pretty secluded under her parents’ supervision but she had the chance to make friends now. The group she fell in with weren’t good influences. They were fascinated with her abilities as a Djinn and had her teleport to random places and steal stuff for them. Whether they were using her or actually cared about their friendship, Annelise was just happy to have people her age that wanted to hang out with her.
Once she got caught stealing a ruby necklace from another noble and, although her parents smoothed things over before anything got out to the public, they became even more strict than they were before. They decided it was time to set her path for the future and set her up with a future husband from a respectable family that would grow her own family’s fortune. She didn’t like the arrangement, the boy seemed like a complete snob to her, but she didn’t have a say in the matter.
The 1550s brought Bloody Mary and religious reforms drove Annelise’s Protistant parents to take a stand, supporting the late king’s desire not to have Mary on the throne. That stand cost them their heads and lands, leaving the Carter siblings with no parents and no fortune. The 14 year old daughter of the once great family was forced to turn to her future fiance’s family to take care of her and her brother.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have the best intentions. Their plan all along had been to marry their son off for the benefits of having a genie in their family. They were generally polite, feeding and sheltering the siblings. But when they wanted something and one of the
