Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

"Santa, is that you?" Oli said, her voice utterly devoid of childlike wonder as she went up the steps of the old farmhouse. They creaked under her weight, threatening to collapse and send her plummeting to the ground. She would have to deal with that one of these days, along with the leak in the roof, the yellowing paintwork, the several metric shit tons of algae clogging the duck pond out back—ah, but Christmas was around the corner, and Oli had more festive things to think of than home improvement. Like the present.
It was a box wrapped in gold foil and red ribbon, an enormous bow sitting pretty like a cherry on top. Figuring it was from Felicity, or one of the kids, or some other Blane who had done their Christmas shopping early, Oli bent down to pick it up. Then she leapt back.
Her danger sense was as keen as ever. One end of the ribbon shot toward the spot where she had stood a split second ago, its edge glistening like a razor in the winter sunlight. Oli landed in front of the steps, watching the present unwrap itself and yawn open.
"Looks like I'm on the naughty list this year."
TAG: @open NOTES: This takes place in the wilderness around Lorsette.

[attr="class","ayab-text"]Ziya had spent the afternoon with some friends. She had been told to return straight home, but another thought occurred to her on the way back. At a seemingly random point she turned off the road into the wilderness near the edges of Lorsette. She didn’t really think through her decision, but she recognized the path to her aunt’s house and she was long overdue to pay the woman a visit. She’d come up with a number of new puns she had to try out for the Christmas season. It wasn’t like she was lying to her dads either. She was supposed to be spending time with friends and Oli was basically a friend. [break][break] She was going to have so much fun! She hadn't done much planning for this moment, but time spent with family was always fun! As she walked through the wooded area, her mind wandered to anything but her surroindings. She barely paid enough attention to her surroundings to keep her footing. It was a wonder her dads were so hesitant about her being out on her own. She could take care of herself perfectly well. She'd never once gotten herself kidnapped or killed, and she always made it home before dinner. Plus she didn't go wandering around for no reason. When she was out on her own she was almost always going to visit friends or to find something to eat. It just wasn't fair. [break][break] By the time her destination came into view she was nearly sulking over the matter, but it didn't take much for her to perk back up again. She barged into the house without noticing the wide-open door or the scene unfolding in the entrance of her aunt's home. "Auntie Oli, I was nearby and I figured you’d like my presents. Just don’t tell-" The words fell from her mouth, cut off as a mass of paper lept out at her. A small yelp fell from her lips as she jumped back. "OMG! Wh-what is that?!" she asked, large green eyes turning up to her aunt.
It must be a terror, this pretty gold present with the pretty red bow. It wasn't any kind she'd seen before, which was saying something considering how many terrors she'd encountered over the years, so it must be one of Zeredah's lovely new inventions. A terror that could disguise itself as a gift during the season of giving—what a joke. Laurent would have a field day with it.
Now that the jig was up, the terror started living up to its name. Several ribbons reached under the box and lifted it up several feet, like the spindly legs of a nightmare spider. The lid popped off, revealing strange flesh and way too many teeth. Meanwhile, Oli extended her hand toward the nearest tree. One of its branches, bare of leaves, rippled and then sharpened to a fine point. She snapped it off and tested its weight in her hands, holding it in front of her like a spear.
They faced off, about to do battle, when Oli's niece burst onto the scene with a terrible pun.
Immediately the terror spun around and lunged at her, shredding its own wrapping paper into serrated edges. "Ziya!" Oli shouted, her voice leaping up an octave from its usual monotone. Without thinking, she threw the branch like a javelin. It missed its mark, the box itself, but got tangled in its ribbon legs, causing it to trip. Oli ran up the stairs and around the terror. Then, before it could regain its footing, she punted it down the stairs.
Oli slammed the front door shut. Now she and her niece were inside while the terror was somewhere out. "That, my dear," Oli said, belatedly answering Ziya's question, "is what Santa gives to all the bad children who stay up past their bedtimes andcommitarson and steal from the cookie jar. In March I said a swear word, so Santa sent one of his agents to kill me dead." She sighed. "I wish you hadn't gotten caught up in all this. What were you doing out here anyway?"
Judging from the scraping sound outside, the terror was trying to saw its way through the door. They had some time to kill before it succeeded, though. Oli glanced around the sparsely furnished living room, then gestured for Ziya to follow her deeper into the house. "Come on, let's come up with a game plan. If I let a terror gobble you up, your dads will be annoyed."

[attr="class","ayab-text"]Ziya's heart sped as she realized that she might, in fact, be in imminent danger. She stumbled back as the object lunged at her, not quite processing as the beast itself was tripped by one of her aunt's branches and knocked out of the house. She blinked as she tried to process Oli's words. It still wasn't clear what that was, but it wasn't good. It couldn't have been good. Good things didn't attack teenage girls or get thrown out of her Aunt Oli's house. [break][break] Ziya blinked as Oli went on talking. Her mind was racing, still not understanding what was happening. Bad things weren't supposed to visit people's houses. That's where good things were supposed to go. Like friends. And food. And the internet. Not evil presents that attacked people. "B-but why did you invite it over in the first place?!" she sputtered. That had to be why it was there. Guests didn't randomly show up at houses, especially not mean ones. [break][break] Having come up with a satisfying enough explanation on her own, she followed her aunt into the living room and addressed the demand for a plan. She usually spent her time trying to lure people into conversation with her, not scare them away. Scaring people away meant they wouldn't be her friend. She wondered if the creepy present goblin would be her friend. Sure it leaped at her teeth first and she'd assumed the worst, but that didn't mean it had to be an evil creature. After all, some dogs liked to attack before they made friends but they still made the best cuddly adorable friends anyway. But Oli didn't seem to want her to make friends with it. For whatever reason she wanted them to get rid of the thing. [break][break] "A game plan, huh? Well if it was Hugo, showering it with puns would get it to go away pretty quick." she offered. Her older brother was probably the only person she'd ever actually tried to repel. He was family and she loved him, but he was also the one who tried to steal her food and stealing food was unacceptable. This beastie wasn't that rude, though. It would be mean to try to annoy it. It would probably be mean to keep referring to it as 'it' in her mind as well. "But Ebbie's not safeguarding food so that would just be a waste of puns." she added gently.
