Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

You broke me down and made me feel worthless and every second I am still believing what you told me.
[attr="class","yatestalk"]Halloween was never anything particularly special for Yates, even through his brutal childhood. Oftentimes, the young child discovered his parents keeping the lights turned out, lighters flickering in the darkness as they got high and ignored him. If anybody inquired about their lack of involvement in Halloween, they merely feigned concerns of their child's health. Gleefully, they would complain about the ill effects excessive sweets would have on their "precious baby". The lie cleverly devised to avoid being interrogated on their lack of involvement in an enjoyable childhood event.
Therefore, when the inevitable task of protecting bright-eyed trick or treaters arrived, Yates felt out of touch. Part of him pondered the reasons the holiday existed. People wearing masks was a perfect ploy for the Assembly of Phantoms to use against them rather than a well-appreciated candy-gathering day. Silently, in the group of four hunters, the grey-haired man walked behind his patrol of hunters. Around his shoulders, he wore the reddened stripes of an elite hunter, making his higher status obvious to anybody glancing over.
Around Yates' belt was a sturdy, army-edition knife secured in a scabbard. The fire manipulating terrors known as will-o-whisps were immune to the burning abilities of flames. Therefore, Yates knew his reliance would shift to handy knife work and the extreme speed he was renowned for. As they moved through the streets, radios buzzing away as units fed information. The beginnings of the evening proved quiet. Sounds of chatter and laughter around them echoing through the chilly, autumn streets. Their footsteps reaching the young man's ears.
Then it arrived abruptly. The high-pitched sound of a scream echoed over the breeze catching autumn leaves. Hastily, the elementals' eyes shifted towards the source, discovering the long, dark limbs leaving a pumpkin head. In seconds, Yates was moving, speed enhanced sending him barrelling towards a little girl. The child's mother moved before her while the frightened homeowner stumbled back. Fire coated the creature's blades as its hand moved down. The elemental pushed himself, everything passing in seeming slow motion as he brought the blade up.
A soft ting rang in his ears as the blade collided with the will-o-wisp's claws. The mother upon realizing a saviour arrived grasped her daughter's arm and led her away. Malicious words grumbled from the fear eater, attempting to bring forth the pressure required to stun him. However, he would not be the reason for Yates' faltering against the flame coated claws. The sounds water echoed in his ears, a hex falling and revealing the truth of the so-called homeowners. Assembly members, hiding in plain sight and assisting the terror.
The water whipped at Yates, hitting him with a harsh smack to his stomach, leaving him dampened. The hunter grunted, being thrown towards the ground by the quick action. He stumbled off the concrete staircase, body falling into dying bushes. The terror's claws racked against Yates' cheeks as he fell back. The slim terror pouncing down as the pair of Assembly soldiers, knowing their position was jeopardized, exited the house. Anybody observant could realize, Yates, being the closest to the home was in the riskiest position. There was no proper escape for the grey-haired man as the terror pinned him into the bushes.
"For fuck sakes!" The elemental grumbled out, tangled in bushes and pinned under the lightweight terror.
Flames began boiling around as the terror released a loud screech. The creature's claws reached for the sky while the elemental squirmed amidst the bushes. Before the flames reached the skies and Yates could burn himself free, the will-o-whisps claws came down. When the claws came down, the grey-haired man discovered himself caught in a blocking situation and having to get himself free. Although, he knew one thing, the night had merely begun and it was already a pain in the ass. The elemental began pressing his back against the ground.
The pumpkin-headed terror kneeled on him, forcing Yates to struggle beneath the terror. While the creature could not burn, its sharp claws could hastily accomplish lethal damage should caution not be taken.
678 Words | Magnus Graves Notes:: Northern District!
The hellhound had been on his patrol for the evening, cautiously witnessing the activities taken place around. Excitement filled the streets given the up and coming holiday but for hunters much like himself they knew they needed to stay on guard. Not get distracted by flashy Halloween decorations various stores would put up for the sake of appealing more customers. Magnus's hand remained rested on the hilt of his blade as his feet moved down the road as fast he possibly could. He had gotten held up in a prior fight with a will-o-wisp. The season for those terrors had come along and Magnus disliked them for the simple fact that they were immune to his fire. He would've taken great joy in burning down such vile creatures but he had to settle with slicing it down with the blade rested in his hilt. [break][break]
The hellhound was also meant to be assisting his fellow hunter in patrolling but getting caught up by a terror was something unavoidable. Magnus wasn't about to let it do as he pleased so he took care of it in the best timely manner he could've. His only hope was to get back on track as fast as he could but the pleasant surprise he received upon turning a corner was a panicked mother and child. Magnus only barely managed to avoid collision by rocking backwards on his heels. The older females eyes were shaking as she had noticed him and his TRS uniform. "Sorry Ma-" He had intended to apologize for the run in but she cut him off with a panicked and urgent tone.[break][break]
Explaining to him how there had been a will-o-wisp fighting against another TRS hunter with gray hair. His electrifying eyes widen as his head nods but he removes such expression from his face. Both hands move to rest on each of their shoulders, giving a comforting pat. "Please don't worry yourselves... there should be a nearby medic tent... you two go get checked up, say that Blaze has sent you and they'll know it's me." The last thing he could want to do was worry these innocent bystanders any further. The older women listened to his words and had been on their merry way. [break][break]
As soon as they left so had he; rushing to the destination they had provided. It was a good time to make use of his speed... it'd be bad to lose a fellow hunter here so he refused. Magnus didn't join TRS to let good men die around him... He joined to fight at their side and take down such vicious beasts. There was no way he was going to let this creature harm a male who worked as hard as he did. He finally arrived on the street; eyes taking in what he saw and immediately processing a solution.[break][break]
Fire surrounded both the pinned down male and the will-o-wisp that dared to threaten his fellow comrade. His eyes danced back between the two of them as his hand gripped onto the hilt of his blade. It would be risky to try to slice him down with the other male so near... so the best solution was to pull his attention away. Magnus silently making his approach, being stealthy was of much importance here. His intention was to pull him away and allow a moment of opportunity for him to get back up on his feet and strike.[break][break]
The hellhound took in a deep breath as he charged inwards with a leg- connecting it to the side of the terror, pushing him roughly off and away from the male on the ground. His hand retrieved his blade from it's hold, getting himself into his stance as the sound of the angry terror filled the air. "I apologize for my late arrival but I've managed to save the day." His lips tug a grin as he charged forward into the terror before he could return to Yates. His blade swung which forced the terror to hold it's claws up to defend, a loud shing! filled the air. [break][break]
"You should prioritize getting on your two feet. I can handle this guy on my own for a bit while you do this." Being a hellhound made him immune to fire so as much as the will o wisp wanted to cause a fiery carnage onto him... it earned a hearty laugh, his booming voice filling the area. He pulls back with a hop, adjusting himself before going in for another quick slice at the creatures wrists. "Those claws of yours are tedious so you don't need them anymore!"
You broke me down and made me feel worthless and every second I am still believing what you told me.
[attr="class","yatestalk"]The hissing growl of flames filled Yates' ears as the creature brought its face near. The obnoxious smell of something burning laced the creature's breath, entering the elemental's nostrils. For a moment, light consumed the grey-haired man's face as flames rushed over him... though unlike most, it embraced him similar to a warm hug. An annoyed grunt rumbled from Yates' throat as he attempted to maintain his fixation on the will-o-wisp's lashing claws. Despite his immunity, flames were still annoying to gaze through!
Deeper into the tangles and thorns, Yates was forced by the slender creature. The popping of branches filled his ears as the fire ate away at the branches around his head. However, everything else dug through his uniform and into his skin. A swear was narrowly grumbled beneath the elemental's breath as he squirmed beneath his opponent. The pathetic trap was difficult to handle being beneath the terror and its ugly claws. A single wrong move and Yates would be cut up nastily; though, he counted his blessing on it not being a razor.
Though, a saviour arrived unexpectedly as the terror was pulled away from Yates. The grey-haired man's eyes flickered in astonishment after noticing the familiar face of TRS hunter Blaze pulling away the dastardly beast. Already, thoughts shuffled through Yates' mind as he coated his hands in fair. The freshly manifested distance gave him the action room required, meaning freedom would inevitably arrive. As the bright-haired man mentioned freeing himself, Yates was already ahead of him. Flames licked up from the elemental's hands, consuming his body and within minutes burst.
The fire spread around the branches, licking at their frames and deteriorating. Within minutes, a bed of ash laid beneath the long-haired man.
"Already ahead of you!" He grumbled.
The elite hunter renowned as Daredevil twisted, ash soiling his uniform. Although, given the situation, it hardly mattered to Yates. He propped himself on elbows before pushing up, knees bearing into the ash. In a few more seconds, the grey-haired hunter stood fully. The yowl of the terror echoed in Yates' ears as he managed to his feet. Though, rather than worry about the well-off hunter, his eyes swept. There, his blue hues inevitably noticed a young hunter struggling against a demon based on appearance.
Without hesitation, Yates sprinted left, enhanced speed carrying him quick. Darkness was the creature's primary tool, a nasty distance being maintained between the demon and close-ranged fighter. Though, he never saw Yates barrelling in until his shoulder rammed his side. An action of haste to provide the young hunter breathing room from the barrage. Over time, the fight would die down, however, it would be a steady effort. The terror was being handled by Blaze, which would leave the pair of Assembly of Phantoms members in the midst.
Though, with the addition of their final group member, there was a chance the duo would attempt fleeing. The odds were yanked from their favour the moment the terror fell. The stumbling demon growled, wild darkness manipulation being flung at Yates. Alas, the elemental was quick to duck and roll from instinct, allowing him to avoid the nasty attack.
[attr="class","yuki-text"] With the distance made between his fellow hunter that had been in danger and the terror before him... Magnus felt no need to be cautious or on guard- the ability to go all out was now an option. The smile on his face only widened as he adjusted the blade within his hand for his next move. With the lost of the terror's claws, the preparation for the attack that would come next was possible. Having trained the way these creatures would fight is one of his many duties. Magnus slid out of the way of terror which had struck forward with it's jaws, aiming to take a nice bite out of the hellhound.[break][break]
He clicked his teeth a few times, a faint sound of 'tsk tsk' leaving the hunters mouth. "Now now why don't you calm down? You can't bite me, you know?" He speaks clear and loudly to the creature which would likely be unable to understand his words as if it was another being. His eyes stayed glued to it's body, picking up on each of the movements it was making. His feet adjusted in position each time it moved- preparing for the next strike. The attacks of the beast had become more erratic now that it's most easy way of fighting had been taken away. [break][break]
Magnus hummed in thought as he plotted out his next attack- The terror would surely not fall for some of the more obvious attacks as regular terrors did. He needed to get a nice clean strike on it's next in order to put an end to it but he was sure it wouldn't be so easy to do so... unless the terror had it's mouth on something it could chomp on. An injury in place of killing the creature? Magnus' lips tugged back into yet another wide grin as the terror with it's mouth opened came at him. He aligned his left arm perfectly- allowing for the creature to sink it's teeth into his arm. He winces but manages to yank the creature back on his arm as the arm holding the blade strikes a nice clean cut through it's neck. [break][break]
The sound of the terror's screams are muffled into the flesh of his now bloodied arms as it slowly faded away to dust, signaling its defeat. A sigh of relief leaves his lip as his injured arm drops down to his side- it was a bit of a deep bite but nothing too threatening. Something definitely Magnus was able to tough through. He had more important matters to attend to - such as assisting his fellow comrades in handling the much more dire evildoers. "So sorry for keeping you waiting, Daredevil." He chimes out in his unnecessarily loud-booming voice. [break][break]
His blade swings out to point in the direction of the members. Unlike the others here he had far more of a larger patience. "I do suggest you consider cooperating with us or you will become much like the terror I had finished handling!" All of this is said in an overly- positive sounding tone. Whether it made his words all the more scarier or not was depending on the two had been before them.
You broke me down and made me feel worthless and every second I am still believing what you told me.
[attr="class","yatestalk"]Darkness wizzed past Yates' ears, the young man remaining kneeled. His blue hues flitted with haste, locking onto the desperate duo of Assembly of Phantoms soldiers. The second soldier of an unknown species backtracked beside his partner. Wariness played across Yates' face as he slowly straightened back up, returning to his full, unimpressive and short height. The man's blue eyes had evident focus behind them, Daredevil's attentiveness being on the pair of soldiers. The manner the soldiers glanced between one another suggested people searching for an idea.
The booming voice of Magnus filled Yates' ears, his eyes glancing over at the fiery-haired man. In a single, dismissive gesture, the grey-haired man exhibited his acceptance of the apology. However, given the circumstance, the elemental demonstrated a quieter acceptance; spoken words needed saving until after the ordeal was handled. The pair were provided with an ultimatum by his hellhound teammate. Accept capture lest they receive the consequences of four hunters chasing after them, two of which were considered elite status.
The soldiers' eyes glanced around, flitting between one another until- fwoosh. The sound of rapidly moving water drawn from the surrounding environment and accumulating dark mist arrived. The elemental's eyes widened as the realization arrived. Naturally, the soldiers had no intentions of surrendering, rather, they planned on retreating and escaping to avoid further damages or undesired capture. The elemental summoned his flames, feet backpedaling as he manifested an intense heat with the flames.
"Fuuck," he growled out. "Blaze! Help me make this freaking hot!"
The elementals intentions consisted of weakening the upcoming water through evaporation or at least providing it with another barrier. Only once safety was confirmed between the quad could they start pursuing their enemies through the darkened mist and out the other side. Already, the thoughts following the abrupt defense consisted of sprinting after them, Yates hoping to coordinate his speed capabilities with his slower or unable to access speed partners on cutting them off. Unfortunately, with two fire manipulators, an obvious disadvantage existed.
Without the proper manipulation to counteract water, Yates' primary hopes were being capable of overheating their flames. Even if they smouldered in the end, safety was the key objective. Though should they change plans and decide to push, there would be required alterations to the plan, however, it could only be discovered afterwards.
