appearance At a mere 15, Kodiak has the semi-intimidating and tall height of 5’10” brought on by the sheer massive nature of the animal he shifts into. Although, despite this, the young orca familiar fails to hold the build of a tank. Rather, he is composed of fairly lean muscles which grant him a slender, but strong appearance despite his youth. Most of his muscular disposition is maintained through constant swim practice and an adoration for activities like sports. The muscle Kodi holds is mostly noticeable when he is using it. A fair complexion covers Kodiak’s skin, a pleasant balance between tanned and pale. Staying too long in the sun can result in burns on Kodi’s skin regardless of form. Scars are nonexistent on Kodiak, the young boy knowing he was spared the worst on... that evening. Semi-short black hair messily flows from Kodiak’s scalp, matching the darkened colours of an orca form. Rarely does the young man allow people to tidy or force a style upon his locks. Frequently, they maintain a messy nature and are considered unkempt by all standards. The bangs of Kodiak’s hair often manage to drift into his eyes because of their semi-short nature. Piercing and frightening, the young man has a sharp, silver colour. They glitter in the light, however, few wish to gaze upon them being soaked in light. His face is composed of sharper angles with high standing cheekbones and a sharply curved chin. His almond shaped face still holds the proper amount of rounding to avoid obsessive sharpness. Casual clothing is frequently worn without a second thought. The young Kodiak McNeil cares hardly about the appearance of his clothes, however, he does notably prefer darker colours and shades. Otherwise graphic or solid, Kodi is unlikely to voice any complaints and wear whatever the individual buying is willing to provide. Frequently, Kodiak wears a black sweater, the hood being pulled up whenever possible. His pants switch between jeans and sweats with hardly a second thought about the notion. This being said, Kodi wears sturdy shoes and anything that is capable of surviving a sports game. Otherwise, nare a thought goes to the clothing. In orca form, Kodiak is a frightful beast reaching a length of about 20ft with a weight of 10,000 pounds. The colour of his skin becomes a striking contrast of black and white. The back of this behemoth is a deep black, a dorsal fin extending from his back. Behind the dorsal fin is a patch of white. Disturbing the black of his head are two white ovular splotches stretching from his eyes. The underbelly of this graceful giant is completely white. personality
abilities Shield Creation -- Intermediate The ability to manifest shields, allowing the user to protect oneself. Receiving only somewhat an education in shield making, Kodiak is not particularly capable in regards to completing these actions. Smaller, durable shields are Kodiak’s forte since they maintain a low energy output, however, cause difficulties in covering the entirety of Kodi’s body. Rather, they are the size of a small frisbee, meaning he can easily get damaged. Although, during instances of extreme fear, Kodi can spawn a large hemisphere to protect himself, this drains Kodi faster. Meaning his energy will be consumed at a faster rate and these larger shields have lower durability. Nonetheless, Kodi can do little with his shield creation. Counterspells -- Beginner The ability to null or bounce back magic. Kodiak is completely unable to use this ability and attempts to merely null or bounce back a small percentage of the magic being inflicted. Therefore, Kodi does not bother attempting counterspells. Healing -- Intermediate The ability to heal others, repairing biological wounds, clearing poisons or clearing sickness. After the evening he lost everything, Kodi has attempted to train his healing abilities in hopes of sparing others from what he handled. As it currently stands, Kodi is required to place both hands on the wound and focus hard on healing the individual in question. Should focus be broken, the wound, sickness or poison clearing will stop entirely until Kodi starts healing again. Furthermore, Kodi’s healing takes time, the healing being a gradual process as wounds knit back together. Extremely life-threatening wounds that can kill a person in mere seconds can cause extreme exhaustion on Kodi. Having to push himself to heal faster causes the young boy to grow weary and require sleep. Orca Shifting -- Advanced The ability to shift into orca form, allowing the user to transform into the apex predator also known as a killer whale. When shifted, Kodi turns into a 20ft long, 10,000 pound aquatic beast. He is an apex predator, his enhanced strength, swim speed, hearing and eyesight maximizing in this form. As an orca, Kodiak becomes a frightful force capable of hurting others because of the 4” long teeth lining his mouth. These teeth are designed for tearing and catching his prey, making them a frightful force. Despite being an apex predator, in orca form, Kodiak holds some misfortunes. The sheer size of his frame makes cramped spaces difficult to maneuver because of his size. Although, most notable among Kodi’s weaknesses is the fact of his form’s nature. An orca stuck on land is hardly a predator noteworthy of concern and fear. Rather, he becomes a creature struggling from the lack of water around him. Additionally, due to the sheer size of Kodiak’s animal form, the young boy receives the boon of a longer shifting time. When shifting, Kodi can take approximately 40 seconds before being entirely shifted. During this time, he is completely defenseless. Enhanced Strength -- Intermediate The ability to enhance one’s strength beyond that of an average individual. Orcas are renown for being powerful creatures, their strength assisting with propelling their bodies through the water. Similarly, Kodi holds a powerful strength capable of breaking walls and damaging others. Breaking things with his enhanced strength can frequently happen because of Kodi’s limited control over the ability. When angry and lashing out, Kodi can cause severe damages to others and items around him. The people he harms often require hospital visits should Kodi be extremely upset. Otherwise, Kodi can pick up heavy items and carry them for longer distances than most because of his enhanced strength. Using this ability tends to drain Kodi’s energy quicker than most of his abilities. This heightens his appetite and in moments of low energy, people can be spared from the wrath of his enhanced strength. Enhanced Swim Speed -- Advanced The ability to swim faster than an average individual. In human form, this ability only allows Kodi to reach the speeds of an olympic swimmer. While this allows him to have significant and well-maintained speed, it shallows in comparison to when Kodi enters his orca form. Through his strength and enhanced swim speed, in orca form, Kodi is a giant dart in the water. He is capable of moving faster than speed boats should he push himself to his limits all while doing dips and breaches. This makes him faster than average killer whales and plenty of people notice quickly. Although, moving at these intense speeds devours Kodi’s speed, making him incapable of keeping up max speed for longer than 15 minutes. Afterwards, he will require a healthy helping of food to regain energy. Naturals:Enhanced Lung Capacity, Enhanced Hearing, Enhanced Eyesight, Cold Temperature Resistance other weaknesses Smell: Never, have orcas been known for their sense of smell, mostly because they lack one. Thus, as an orca familiar, Kodi’s sense of smell is dulled down substantially. In human form, Kodi is capable of only somewhat smell, however, in orca form this is nonexistent. Taste: Orcas and whales and generally have little capabilities in taste and are only capable of tasting salt. Thus, Kodi’s sense of taste is lower than that of average individuals. For the most part, Kodi can taste salt better than anything else in human form. Other foods are dulled down, however, this does allow him to consume just about anything. In Orca form, the only thing Kodi can taste is salt. Massive Appetite: Being connected to an orca whale, Kodi tends to have a large appetite to supply his energy. While he can hardly taste or smell, Kodi will devour anything placed in front of him. This being said, when Kodi fails to eat enough, he becomes rather groggy and sluggish. backstory Trigger Warnings: Violence, death Happiness. Something beloved and hugged close by most. For Antoine and Marinette McNeil, it arrived in the form of family and the birth of their beloved son, Kodiak McNeil. The McNeil Family was a renown family of orca shifters and familiars who stuck together. Each innately kept in touch with their animal form, allowing certain effects such as a lowered sense of taste and smell to dribble over into human form. The family’s pod acted similar to the social groups witnessed in orca culture as the chirping noises and whale songs leaked into human form. Their unique methods of socializing made the family a group prone to fixating on those inside while the younger men and women searched for mates. Frequently, the McNeil Family sought other orca shifters or familiars to be indoctrinated into their culture, although, instances of other species have been recorded with the more shift-oriented traditions toned down. The world Kodiak McNeil thrived and operated differently from anybody else’s. The child was homeschool, traditions mingling with education. Their ways were different, they always were. Yet, through the traditions of the McNeil family, Kodi discovered himself delighted and happy about it all. The praise he received from the teachers of their pod of those with orca shifting made him happy. Meanwhile, his parents painted his world, teaching him wonders like art and expanding his imagination. Together, they would paint, speak about their days and praise one another’s accomplishments. Fish was a regular serving as per the pod’s request, at least once or twice a week. A majority of greens arrived with a type of meat to sate the carnivorous nature of a killer whale. These were the small things the happy little familiar learned to love and bask in. At a young age, Kodi’s parents taught him to fish. Distant memories of the sensation of the little rod in his hands, they would always return. The first tug upon the fishing rod, the excitement as he reeled in a fairly large fish. He basked in the pride of his parents as they showed off what Kodiak managed to catch. The days where Uncle Marley would take them on their boat into the deep of the ocean was always among the best. The ever moving waves as excited McNeils chirped in glee at the upcoming event. A valuable tradition of diving amidst the waves and transforming into their orca form. They would take rotations, swimming about before returning to the boat. Those were the days Kodiak adored with every dive, chirp and lesson. Only moments after their splendours would Kodi be resting on the boat ride home. Through the early years of his life, Kodiak lived in blissful happiness. Dancing in waves, fishing with his family and attending the gatherings where chirping mixed with words. Their social culture, while radically different from others, manifested an environment of happiness. Those days were filled with only memories of family. Each precious moment snapshotted and placed inside his mother’s photo album. From him growing up to the many things the McNeil clan accomplished, the book was a reward to glance through. Every smiling face and seemingly endless jovial emotions represented in a single book. The documented days of grins and laughter... if only he knew what the future set in store... He would have cherished them even more, would have done something to prevent that evening... In their social group, the McNeil family would rent a large venue and hold a family reunion filled with dancing and games shortly after Christmas. Young Kodi McNeil, fourteen years old and preparing to eventually grow fifteen was walking along with his mother. Antoine wanted to speak with his brothers and Marinette was searching out grandma. The chattering, the happy chirps left Kodi curiously glancing around with a broad smile. Everything was perfect... but it shattered in mere seconds. He remembered the banging on the doors as they were kicked in, the harsh growls of terrors and the shattering of windows. Things moved quickly, his mother grabbing his arm and dragging him a broom closet. Between the high-pitched screams and splatters of blood, he was shoved in and locked. His body trembled, eyes tearing up as the child retreated from the door, hiding amidst the brooms. He held his breath, heard the screaming, the pleas for help, the sound of distressed, long-distance whale calls... His breath shook, the tears rolling over his tears as he covered his mouth. He was terrified and uncertain about everything beyond him. Although, most deafening was the abrupt silence as the final scream was cut off. A soft whimper left Kodi’s lips as his hands pressed hard against his mouth. Noise meant being found... and being found meant death... His heart pounded inside his ears as he attempted to keep his breaths forced to long and slow. Hours passed, Kodi refusing to move even as the sounds of rescuers entered the building. They searched around, speaking about the carnage of those he loved... At one point he began bawling while attempting to avoid making noise. Somebody heard him and as the door opened he shuttered. They came for him, attempting to comfort the living person they found... The only survivor amidst the blood. For a moment he saw from beyond their frames, the lifeless bodies, the blood pooling on the floor... The tears flowed like a river as the young boy cried harder. At one point they covered his head with a jacket, escorting him out while attempting to salvage any remnants of innocence Kodi retained. However, the young boy was shaken up, struggling to recount what happened to TRS. Rather, his thoughts wondered about what would happen to him now... He received a hospital visit as an orphanage was contacted... He was shoved into the system and told his parents were gone... They tried to make it soft, but how does a boy so young and family oriented take losing his entire family? Everything he had now was the photo album his mother made... The young boy took everything horribly... Orcas are social animals, having their own social groups where they communicate. Losing these concepts and being thrusted into an orphanage and later high school shoved stress upon the young orca familiar. Nobody really understood him, or at least, he believed... Thus, it began like clockwork. He wanted nothing to do with anybody after being smacked so harshly with emotions. The once shy and well-mannered boy lashed out at anybody attempting to bring him cheer. He swung punches, hurt people, screamed at them and became volatile by all accounts. People thought him a bully and a freak, but in reality, Kodi was nothing more, but a hurt little boy. Somebody struggling with handling the grief from a sudden loss, the trauma of hearing his family die and the anger about life being so incredibly unfair. He felt like he lived in a home of strangers, his traditions lost the moment the door was kicked down. Listening to their different types of language among pods has always made Kodi curious. - Due to being an orca, Kodi participates in the social tradition of attempting to mimic other people when he wants to get close to them or feels a connection with them. - Kodi feels similar to taking an orca from the wild and placing it in an aquarium or zoo after being uprooted from his life and placed in regular school. He feels anxious and tense which has only increased his likelihood of lashing out. - He has a firm belief nobody can understand him. Thus he regularly starts hiding when he is upset and crying. - Parent and child events leave Kodi gloomily thinking. Frequently, he will avoid them and tell nobody they are happening. - Kodi struggles to vent the emotions and handle the grief plaguing him caused by his trauma. It is believed he has acute PTSD and furthermore tends to swear, yell and lash out at those around him. Additionally, Kodi tends to have night terrors, which has led to him having insomnia. - In his sleep, Kodi will make long-ranged whale cries as though he is searching for his parents. - Kodi is heavily influenced by being an orca familiar, thus, he is curious about trying seals and penguins. However, he dares not mention it because of how much people enjoy those adorable animals - As an apex carnivore and predator, Kodi prefers meat to vegetables.
