Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff
season
Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
Torrin has had to watch himself extra carefully lately, needed to keep himself safeguarded from the horrible things of his past catching up to him. There was no way to keep everyone else safe, too many things happen in this world. Nobody trusts one another, and that's for a good reason. Torrin has been keeping himself out of the public eye as much as he can mention, especially from the crowds most entwined with strife, just to stay away from the mere possibility of being recognized, no matter how slim the chance, no matter how unlikely the danger, and he cannot be faulted for such actions. He would save others if he could manage to do so, if he can stop a death here and there, but he cannot save the world, something he has known for a long time. Today he was acting on a mere whim, wandering alone in a deserted seeming place.
He has his scarf pulled up over much of his face, and he's hunched into himself a little bit. His eyes are like glimmering amethysts as his gaze darts all around, a color so distinctive it had often drawn others into his gaze. Why does it feel somehow wrong to be alone like this? It can be a cause for worry, as traveling alone can be very dangerous. He didn't really know where he was going, just wandering around really, as he had ended up here a few nights ago, where he had been on the run from the man he had escaped not too long ago.
He had no map or guide, and nowhere to go, though he can take care of himself, no matter what outsiders may think, being as though he looks like a very scrawny teenager at best. He was much stronger than he looked, though sometimes looking young and innocent can have it's advantages, it can allow him to slip around undetected. Everything also has it's drawbacks, and sometimes looking young and vulnerable makes him a target.
He hears a shoe scuff the ground a fair distance away, and he pauses in his step for a second, almost wanting to scatter and run. He keeps himself steady, calming himself and not faltering from his set path, steeling his spine and resolve, knowing that it was probably nothing to worry about. When he starts to come close enough to see and hear, he can hear voices, there was more than one person, and he takes a sharp inhale of breath. An uneasy feeling tugs at his gut, though he doesn't let it show outwardly, and as he nears he can see some people lurking in the shadows.

[attr="class","postcontent"]They stumble down a makeshift ramp of rubble, foundation and blocks of wood spilling viscerally from the gutted concrete building. One holds onto a snapped telephone wire and swings around like a bored toddler. They're lingering: their statuses unknown, their loyalty ambiguous, and their overall countenances shrouded by night – ruined streetlamps – and mist from kicked-up rain puddles. However, their hushed conversation implies both a camaraderie and a restlessness: they're here on business, and they're not making progress. They never will. They'll never find her. The Cailleach lies in the construed darkness of the alleyway...
Those distinct red eyes – she's on the enemies' every move; she has a stealth advantage. But Malea's senses are poised, and she's drawn to the outline of the street before her.
A boy appears. His attention is on the "soldiers," and his posture reads uneasy as he hides in his scarf. Malea is a giant to him, in-comparison. In stature, too, he's immaterial, in the former sense, and she has a maneuver for spirits– He passes the mouth of the alleyway; in seconds, they are a foot apart, at most, and Malea panics. She grabs as close to his neck as she can, his shoulder, in a swift movement and a deadly efficiency. Simultaneously, the boy is a threat and she is overreacting. But Malea has always separated "thinking" and "acting." Doing the latter, she starts to pull the stranger into hiding with her. Her voice, a gruff and quieted hiss: "State your business."
The kelpie's voice may be stifled somewhat as she has the final bite of a steamed bun grit between her teeth, contents dotting her face, having eaten with some ferocity. Her opposite arm cradles a basket of the stuff. Around her wrist, a carry-out bag was stuffed with one-use objects, napkins and chopsticks and toothpicks and mini bottles of water.
The fallen had his attention in the wrong place, something that he was going to chide himself for later, that was if he survived to really berate himself for it. He was small and light compared to almost everyone in existence save children, so he could rather easily be pushed or pulled around. It was likely that he could play into some sort of harmless innocent role, and rather easily at that. He allowed shivers to wrack his diminutive form, violet eyes turning wide as saucers. That was right, act like someone young and defenseless, and some would let you go free.
"I'm lost. I don't know how to get home from here..." His voice has a light, childish tone that didn't sound fake in the least, it had been practiced much, and almost never failed to get him out of trouble. There were some times it did fail, those times were with people who didn't mind tossing about a child. If this didn't work, well he would have to try to force his way free and run.
All he had to do was keep up the act, and hope this stranger didn't rough up the youths for kicks. So far so good, though the deception had really just started. His attention was still somewhat worried about the other strangers he had noticed, wondering if they would come this way, or had even noticed him at all, though he doesn't think they had. If they had, they would have likely come to investigate by now.
you can't remember the last time you've corresponded with a child. it's terrible.
It works. Barely. her expression hardens as he shakes under her grip. It is a combination of the boyish stridency he speaks with and the excuse-making that has the vagabond grit her teeth and let the boy go - those more than anything else, her hand appears to hover somewhere at her side even while she re-adjusts. Crucially, however, she let go. [break][break]
Suspicion lines her voice: "As far out here. Ay." But she is already moving to the main target, the same which she senses in him. The towering woman wipes her mouth with her sleeve. "Not so terrible, to be lost," she adds, to fill space, that height-difference, age-difference. She is easily peering over him to track the "others." [break][break]
From here, they've reduced to rubble and din. But the woman's posture seizes up; one of them laughs. They're heading in their direction. (Whoever they are, whatever their business is.) As she retreats into the pocket of darkness in a flare of her coat and disgruntled rustle of loose plastic. [break][break]
In her stead, upon closer inspection, her back turns to deep-red eyes. Frozen gargoyle-esque, her bags are balanced on her shoulders and her head is tilted towards the impending length of the alley ahead, that gaze reading, WELL? Though she didn't as much as ask if he wants to follow.[break][break]
