Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. sometimes the enemy is locked within your own mind
Aurora was best described as peculiar in Avery's opinion. Unlike a majority of people, the short-haired brunette appeared somewhat thrilled to be around him. It granted her opportunities to tease him for her amusement after all. Nonetheless, the one-eyed lycanthrope was astonished by the woman's willingness to reside in his company. He offered nothing valuable to conversation and his phlegmatic attitude made him hardly engaging. Yet, Aurora sat across from him, showing no visible signs of discontentment with the situation.
No complaints were being registered by Avery, he was merely surprised. Frequently, he considered conversations with him similar to speaking with a boulder. Eventually, a server approached their table, menus tucked under her arm and pen and paper secured in her hand. Upon her arrival, she handed Aurora and Avery their separate menus. As expected of the first arrival of a waitress, she would request their beverages and fetch them while they picked their meal for the evening. There was little thought as Avery glanced over the drinks.
With two young boys living with him, the bodyguard rarely indulged in liquor. Additionally, the effects of booze were useless to those working in protection. He listened to Aurora's more exhilarating request of strawberry lemonade, meanwhile, his eyes fixated on the mundane.
"I'll just get water," Avery stated.
Briefly, his eye flickered over to the woman taking their before returning to his menu. The sounds of a pen writing across a notepad filled his sensitive ears. Promptly, it would be followed by the sounds of their waitress' retreat from the table to provide their orders. In her absence, Avery heard Aurora's words that once again surprised him. A brow lifted as Avery peeked over his menu at the mysterious woman. Through her teasing, she offered friendship, something the male lycanthrope rarely received from others.
"May I ask why you have developed such an interest in me?" Avery inquired in his emotionally neutral voice.
He attempted to avoid rudeness with his question, however, the man was genuinely curious. Based on observations, he would assume people of her age and behaviour would seek vivacious party-goers rather than a phlegmatic man in his late-thirties. Therefore, asking the reason felt like a requirement.
there were times when aurora didn't know when to keep quiet. that last comment was clearly proof. though she had not meant anything bad by it. she had at least waited for the server to leave their table. she did not want to embarrass avery with her unfiltered comments. was she surprised by his question? yes and no. sure they had only met the one time and they really didn't know much about each other, but weren't all friendships like that? starting off as strangers and then slowing getting to know each other. well, they did have somethings in common. walks, especially ones surrounded by nature and sure when it came down to their personalities they were complete opposites. was it their age difference?
she had set her menu down and shrugged."no particular reason. should i have one?"she asked him honestly. one could say that aurora wasn't the best at making friends. honestly the only person she could call her friend was the boy she grew up with. he put up with her antics and she didn't particularly know why. okay she knew why, but she hadn't found that out till later. she wished she had more friends that were girls, but they sorted of seemed to push her away once she got older. not that she was the type to beg to be in someone's clique. boy always seemed to be so free of drama.

The reasoning behind Avery's inquiry solely manifested from his self-awareness in his behaviour. People, under most circumstances, sought the company of the more vivacious and energetic, or, other like-minded folk. Rarely, would people offer those types of relationships to somebody of his introverted and phlegmatic attitude. Therefore, the notion of somebody desiring to gain his friendship was almost foreign to the bodyguard... Prior instances of people possessing those wishes were limited, his high school and childhood even being considered a rather lonesome existence.
Yet, here he stood, with a woman who he assumed was his junior searching for a friendly relationship with him. The thought was peculiar, but not outlandish. People discovered friendship in strange places and there was always the opportunity of a stranger to become an ally. Quietly, he listened, curious as to her reason for holding those wishes and rather than anything particular, Aurora mentioned holding no reasons. Perhaps his innate defensiveness and cynicism kept him wary... or the fact this situation was somewhat new to him.
"I see," the words breezed through his lips as he pondered a moment. "I am surprised. Rarely do I receive offers of friendship, but if supper progresses it is something I am willing to accept."
A guarded nature flickered in his forest green eye. Previously, people feigned friendship only to betray him in the future. Alas, he was willing to provide Aurora the chance given their former interactions. She proved to be kind and did not demonstrate malicious intent. Yet, Avery at least desired to complete their blind date before coming to any direct decisions. He was always cautious, it infected him the moment those vampires threw him inside that shed for hours...
did she need a specific reason? one that had subpoints as well? she didn't have many friends, but isn't how that usually went? strangers getting to know each other or even simply talking and then bam friendship. or perhaps that's just how she did things? she had not been expecting that. then again what had she been expecting? avery was such a wildcard. sometimes she could predict his reactions and other times he surprised her.
she shook her head."really? perhaps it's because you work too much. i'm sure you must have your work buddies, people you're age."she smiled."please don't think i'm holding that against you."how many friends had she made here? not that many, especially not ones that she went out of her way to hang out with. she got along with her co-workers. she didn't go out with them all the time, but she had gone out once or twice. she had fun.
things were uncertain. she was hanging around here like she was going to be here a long time. she didn't exactly know what was going to happen once they found him. she had decided she didn't want to go back. was it selfish of her to want to see and do much more than what was expected of her.
she smiled once more at his words."you giving me a trial run? it's fine. it's alright to say no."as much as she loved to tease him, if he wasn't up to it. she wasn't going to force him. she wasn't that desperate for friends."so, do you know what you're getting?"she asked as she glanced back at her menu.

Wariness claimed his actions because of the paranoia that haunted him. Confirmation on Aurora's intentions was required, even though she represented herself positively. It was the manner he operated. He shielded himself from the possibility of betrayal despite beliefs the individual was unlikely to cause an offense. Everything about the actions being done was a safety precaution, nothing more and nothing less. These were his instincts, overpowering in their intent and refusing to allow the walls to crumble around him.
Guarded, it was the word to describe Avery's attitude towards others. Manifesting connections was difficult for somebody taught to be alert and harmed by those he trusted. Quietly, he leaned back in his chair, forest-green eye surveying the options written on the menu. The menu possessed calligraphy for the restaurant's title, the readable type with long curves. Pictures were stationed beside the text labelling the possible foods for their consumption. Occasionally, his eyes wavered from the lavish menu to peek at Aurora.
He listened to her words dripping with her regular teasing attitude. The male lycanthrope greeted her words with a simple shrug.
"I'm a busy man," he neutrally added to the shrug.
He proceeded to glance over the menu between his glances, attempting to deduct what he wished to consume. As a lycanthrope, his eyes hastily stared at the meat dishes... the wolf inside of him adored those. The smile was unnecessary because Aurora's tone of voice hinted at her teasing. The lycanthrope rolled his eyes in response to her words. His wariness required more information before these decisions were made... Fortunately, the conversation shifted to the meal options quickly.
"I am thinking the pork chops," he answered quietly in thought. "What about you?"
His eyes gazed over the top of the menu, waiting for her answer. He was curious about her choices of food and besides, it was apart of a date, correct?
she couldn't being doing too bad with him if he was still here. though her teasing didn't seem to have too much effect, which was fine. any sort of reaction would be an interesting one for sure. he didn't seem too happy with her vague answer. though honestly she didn't have a reason. if they kept bumping into each other it was only natural. at least that's what she thought.
it was fine. he already had told her what she should be expecting out of this. nothing, nothing at all. can't blame a girl for trying. if anything she found this quite amusing. he's rather interesting. she smiled at his comment."yes, i'm well aware. thanks for fitting me into your schedule darling."
so was enjoy herself with their little banter, she had forgotten they still hadn't ordered anything. at least they managed to get their drinks. so that was a start. she glanced at the menu once more. she figured getting something she didn't always eat was a good start. pasta wasn't hard to come by and it was pretty easy enough to make for the most part. she wasn't the greatest cook, but she could follow a recipe well enough."i think i'll get that too."she knew she would take days to figure what she could get. everything sounded pretty good. she closed her menu and set it to the side for when the server would return to their table. she stirred the strawberry lemonade, which had slices of fresh strawberry, before taking a sip."oh, this is really good. do you want to try it?"she asked, but handed him the glass before receiving an answer."try it, just a sip."she said with a smile.

Never could Avery understand Aurora's behaviours and attitudes towards him. The woman appeared to enjoy his company somehow despite having the social grace of a lone wolf. Yet, the woman persevered through the questionable and asocial attitudes represented by the male lycanthrope. It was an accomplishment unseen by Avery throughout the years of his existence. Even during his high school days, the one-eyed man discovered himself a lonesome soul. Although, those days were riddled with pretentious and obnoxious people.
The male lycanthrope leaned back in his chair, hands folding and placing the menu down once his choice was made. Another eye roll was featured in the man's forest green eyes before his darkened hues focused back on Aurora. It was nothing personal against the brunette beauty, but Avery believed she deserved someone around her age. Someone who held vivacious energy and summoned seas of fun. However, she always appeared oddly amused by his cold, and at times, aloof demeanour whenever she gleefully teased him.
They had quietly discussed their food options, Avery picking something related to meat. The wolf inside always enjoyed the more canivirious options at restaurants. The sounds of ice jostling inside a cup filled Avery's ears as Aurora stirred her lemonade before taking a sip. Only moments after did the delighted woman compliment the drink, picking it up to offer the male lycanthrope a sip. The one-eyed man raised a brow, taken somewhat aback by the option. A smile was playing against her lips, and considering he was her blind date, he supposed he should indulge her a bit.
A gentle sigh breathed through his lips as he reached out, hands curling around the glass. Condensation rolled over his fingers, cool and suggesting a refreshing drink. He gingerly took a sip, allowing the sweet beverage to roll of his tongue. After, he gazed at the drink, not being particularly fond of sweet drinks.
"It's alright," he murmured before passing it back to Aurora.
Moments later, the server returned to their table to get their food orders. Enough time had passed for them to choose their dishes after all. The male lycanthrope remained silent, allowing Aurora to place her order before giving his so the server could retreat.
she found him interesting, the way he could look so serious would probably have other avoiding him. yet here she was being playful with him. she loved seeing his reactions as few and far between as they were. it's probably why she enjoyed teasing him. his reactions were vastly different from others and she enjoyed them. of course she wasn't teasing him to be mean. she simply smiled when she got a reaction out of him.
she had glanced through the menu a few times, nothing really stood out to her. she wasn't going to be picky at a time like this. so she figured she could get what avery was ordering. she liked pork chops well enough and she wasn't really in the mood for anything else.
after offering him a sip of her strawberry lemonade, she was expecting him to say no. yet he took the glass from her. before he even had the chance to taste it aurora spoke."it's good right?"she asked. upon hearing his response she smiled. she took another sip once she had the drink back in her hands. it wasn't long before the server returned to the table asking if they were ready to order. avery didn't speak up, so she figured she could put in her order first, returning to her drink once she was done.

There was something interesting about Aurora's behaviours that continuously attracted Avery's attention. The uniqueness of her actions allured him, maintaining his fixating on her further than average. The circumstance of his attendance inspired his attempts at conversation to make the forced date not entirely disappointing for the unfortunate sap stuck with him. Yet, admittedly, parts of Avery fancied their conversation. If the male lycanthrope was required to attend to spare feelings, he was content Aurora was his date.
The mixture of sweet and sour washing over his tongue was a powerful, albeit, enjoyable taste. Nonetheless, he gave his lacklustre opinion on the beverage. He preferred the underbearing taste of his water; something simple without overpowering flavours. As the server arrived at their table, they patiently awaited an answer from one of the date attendees. Silently, Avery provided Aurora with the opportunity to state her order. After allowing their pen to scrawl out the order before turning to the one-eyed male and receiving a similar order.
As the server retreated, Avery's eye landed on the short-haired brunette. Subtle hints of surprise infiltrated his forest green eye. It appeared probable he inspired her order in the midst of her indecision.
"I am guessing you could not decide?" He asked to kick up a conversation.
Their would be no complaints about picking the same order. Rather, Avery's lack of conversational grace searched for the most convenient topic to proceed. His lack of capability in social functions left him debilitated and required him to cling to something to converse with.
Honestly she had been expecting him to decline the offer, but she was glad she had been persistent. She was right though, a little taste wasn’t going to do him harm. She smiled as she received the glass and she took a sip of the strawberry lemonade once more.”i’m glad you like it.”she smiled, well knowing that his little review was fairly simple. She twirled the straw around in the glass. The server arrived and like the gentlemen he was, allowed her to place her order first.
She laughed softly.”was it that obvious?”sipping her strawberry lemonade once more.”i didn’t want to make you wait too long. Besides it sounded good.”she said with a nod.”Next time i won't copy you.”she smiled, as if there would be a next time. Avery was pretty adamant about how he wasn’t the type to go on dates or sign up for these sorts of things, but mentioning a next time wouldn’t hurt."is that usually what you get when you go out to eat? or do you have a favorite meal?"

Conversation flowed smoothly between the pair of lycanthropes stationed at their table. The older comfortably adjusting himself in his chair, forest green eye fixated on the individual in front of him. In the distance, some tables displayed positive outlooks while others had begun turning sour as facts were learned. The bodyguard's sensitive ears picked up on joyous phrases and disgruntled datees. Alas, their table appear maintain a neutral tone between the two possibilities. There were no cheers of jubilee, but rather, mature, albeit, playful conversation.
The atmosphere was something oddly admired by Avery. Their progress in conversation felt natural, neither taking anything harshly or becoming over-zealous over developes. Merely a pleasant interaction between a pair of adults familiar with one another. While Avery's phlegmatic tendencies kept expressions from leaking onto his face, he was enjoying the engagement; it was a lot more than he expected. The smile on her face when he proclaimed admiring the drink's taste was a nice sight for the weathered bodyguard.
Their matching orders resulted in Avery's suspicions, of which Aurora playfully confirmed. It shortly sparked preferences of what he favoured to eat. A soft shrug arrived to push away thoughts of having a regular order.
"I like meat usually," he explained in a short sentence. "Am I right to assume you do not have a usual meal you order?"
Differences among menus was a common thing in the restuarant scene. Occasionally, having differing options paired with excellent cooking could spark public interest after all. Therefore, thoughts of Aurora's favouring dish being absent from the evening's menu was not outlandish.
