Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Akira just shook his head. It wasn't like he really understood Kyou's logic either. There was no real sense to it that he could see. "Please. Just go. I don't want to hurt you anymore... But he does. He really does." He shook his head a bit more as he curled up around himself. "I don't know what he is. A personality, a demon, I don't know. He's awful and I hate him. But Ian... I think Ian is looking for him and I don't want to go to jail or whatever. It wasn't me. It isn't me. Please."
'This amount of pleading makes you look pathetic.'
Michael frowned a little as he listened to the brunette's pleas. He didn't even know what his other personality was? If it, he, was even...something. He glanced behind himself towards the door of the apartment before he looked back towards the brunette once more, the pleas to not have Ian find out so he wouldn't be imprisoned. How ironic though that the very person Ian was looking for to be living right next to him. The blonde shifted his footing and sighed before he, much to his dismay, made his way back over to the brunette. He crouched down in front of him, resting his arms on his own knees as he looked him over. Why was he still here if it had actually been this brunette, or rather his...other...self, who had almost killed him?
He hung his head for a moment before he raised it and held out his hand a little, palm up as he tilted his head to the side a little. "Are you...really that scared of it...him?" He asked him cautiously, keeping his hand where it was. The brunette seemed really...alone almost. Tormented and just...he wasn't really sure what. He shifted his mouth to the side slightly before he heaved a quiet sigh and moved his hand to gently place it on the top of the brunette's head, gently rubbing it.
"How long have you been dealing with this by yourself?" He asked him, running his fingers through his dark hair before he began to massage it a little in what he hoped was a comforting gesture. He hesitated a moment before he shuffled forward a little, shifting himself to sit on the floor better as he kept massaging the poor brunette's head.

The blonde came back over to him, and he almost reacted in a strong way, but the pats to his head and the words that were spoken instead made him tear up a little. "I'm terrified of him..." His voice was shaky, as he held back the tears that threatened to fall, but he didn't want to be seen as weak either. "I have no control. Very little control. And he does all of these awful things." He shook his head and wrapped his arms around himself as he sat there huddled on the floor. After the other sat down, Akira leaned over against him. "He's too powerful for me. He's always angry and mean. I mean, look what he did to you." He leaned into the massage happening on his head. "He leaves me nightmarish 'presents', I sometimes wake up covered in blood and none of it is mine. He gives me horrible dreams of my friends being ripped apart by my own hands. And he's always listening, calling me stupid and pathetic, even right now. I... I can't tell anyone. They'd think I'm some sort of freak, or worse." He pulled away and shook his head. "You still should go. It's not safe. He could hurt you."
Michael sucked in a soft breath as the brunette had begun to tear up, admitting that he was actually terrified of this thing in his head and what it would do to him. He allowed him to lean against him as he spoke more, just letting him get it all off of his chest. He continued to rub his head before Akira pulled away, telling him to leave once more due to it supposedly not being safe. He scanned his eyes over his face before he shook his head a little, going against every fiber of his being to just get the fuck out of there.
He moved a little more to sit more beside the brunette, shifting his legs to part a bit as he gently grabbed him and pulled him into his lap to rest between his legs. He wrapped his arms around the brunette and began to gently rocked him as he used a hand to rub his back. "I'll keep your secret, okay? Yeah your...other self did almost kill me but..." He trailed off, shaking his head a little as he tilted his head down a little to look at the brunette in his arms, still gently rocking him. "You can talk to me about it all. You shouldn't have to suffer from all this by yourself, you can lean on me for some relief." He told him in a low, comforting voice. He still wasn't sure why he was doing all of this, but for some reason it just felt right. "If...if you'll let me I'd like to be here for you."

Akira felt himself being dragged into the other's lap and sucked in a sharp breath and held it. He tried to curl up more before finally pulling himself away and shaking his head. "No.. Touching..." He shook his head and went to pace around his kitchen, throwing things in drawers and cupboards and cleaning off surfaces. "No. You can't be here. Not like this." He shook his head again and walked over to his door, propping it open and making a motion for the blonde to leave. "He doesn't like it. I'm sorry. But please leave." Inside, he could feel that devil trying to pry open those bars and let himself out. But he kept him at bay for as long as he could. "Please. He'll kill you..."
Michael allowed the brunette to pull away, remaining where he was on the floor for a few moments as Akira had gone about to pace and do stuff in the kitchen. He walked towards the kitchen but stopped as he watched the brunette, listening to his words before he had made his way over to the door. Did that mean he could come back? He tilted his head to the side slightly before he eventually moved forward and paused by the opened door, looking at the brunette. "Okay...call me though? Or...text or email..." He paused as he lifted a hand to rub the back of his neck a little, glancing towards the hallway he was about to go into once more.
He looked back towards the brunette once again and offered him a small smile. "Your secret is safe with me. You've got my contact information on that grocery list of yours, maybe....I can come by when you're....feeling better?" He spoke up, stepping out into the hallway and turning to face the door. "You really do have beautiful eyes, they're captivating." He added after a moment or so.
~~~~~~
It had been a few days since he had met the brunette, the blonde having been a little busy between his time of leaving the brunette's apartment and with his own training. He had tried to gain some information about the brunette from his mentor, but didn't get much luck in that. It was the afternoon and he had eventually found himself in front of the two doors that led to both his mentor's and Akira's own apartments.
He rubbed the back of his neck as he glanced between the two, soon moving in front of the brunette's door and giving it a couple of knocks before he took a step back and waited for the door to be opened. Hopefully. What if he wasn't home? What if he actually didn't want anything to do with him? What if he liked Ian? Wait, why was he wondering that last bit? He turned away slightly, frowning a little at himself for such a thought. Honestly, he was feeling a little nervous about meeting the brunette again. Well, he just hoped it was Akira who would be the one to potentially open the door if he was even home. He was rather cute and nicer after all.
Prepare the diving bell It's time to take this low I sink into myself, low No need for farewell
He was up to absolutely nothing, just browsing the internet looking for something to do, when he heard the knocks on the door. He cringed a little, but there was no noise from inside his head. Was Kyou sleeping? He was known to do that from time to time. The brunette slowly and carefully got up from the chair in the kitchen he had been sitting at, as if somehow a quick movement would disturb the beast inside of him. But of course it wouldn't, that was just absurd. He carefully and quietly made his way to his door and opened it up as far as the chain would let him. Couldn't be too careful these days, right?
Upon seeing it was the blonde from the other day, a light blush crossed his face and he closed the door to undo the chain before reopening it. "Here to see Ian again? You always manage to miss him." He gave the other a soft smile as he welcomed him into his apartment again. "I think he's sleeping, so you're welcome to come in." Of course he was talking about his devil and not Ian, but still, he hoped that the blonde would understand. "I've got some snacks and drinks if you want some."
Michael turned back towards the direction of the door as he heard it open, unable to help but smile as he saw and heard the brunette. Yeah, he was totally here to see Ian. "Well damn, guess you're stuck with me then for now." He responded to him, happily accepting the invitation to come inside. "So...it's safe then, yeah?" He spoke up as he glanced over to Akira, scanning him from head to toe and back up again briefly. He was totally fine with that, not being attacked was always good.
"Did I interrupt anything you were doing?" He asked him, glancing around his surroundings for a moment or two before he turned his attention back over to Akira. At the offer of snacks and drinks Michael hesitated, he didn't want to be rude but he also wasn't sure if the brunette had enough. "Ah, sure if you'll have some too." He spoke up, his eyes scanning over his face once more. "Do you attend the school here?" He asked him, opting to just follow him to their next location really.
"I started going when I arrived here but..." He trailed off with a shrug. "It was more so of something for me to do. Back in London I didn't go to school since I was busy with..other..things." He glanced away, not sure why he was really saying so much about himself, even though he wasn't really, to the brunette. "I got sent here for an unknown reason, the people I knew over there just stopped contacting me and my last pay was deposited already so there's not much I can do about that." He paused once more, seeming nonchalant about it all.
"Decided to join up with TRS and see where things take me I suppose." He glanced towards Akira once more, lifting a hand to rub the back of his neck. "Sorry, uh...anything you like to do?" He spoke up, tilting his head to the side a little. He was curious about the brunette, especially with the things he liked and disliked. Well, assuming he'd ever get to learn about them. "Hey, maybe...if you'd like I could see about bringing over lunch or...or dinner at some point? I can cook a pretty good steak. But that's as far as I can get in the kitchen." He spoke up, chuckling a little at the last bit. Why? He wasn't sure.
Prepare the diving bell It's time to take this low I sink into myself, low No need for farewell
Akira was surprised at the silence that still rang in his head as the blonde started talking about himself. He just nodded here or there with acknowledgement as he dug through the cupboards. As soon as they opened, it was clear that he had a taste for snack foods, as his cupboards were overflowing with things like chips and snack cakes, but his fridge was practically empty aside from the huge amount of soda that was in there. "I don't really know if I want to go to school yet. I might just stay here and do it from home. The thought of being around a lot of people it..." He shook his head. No. Kyou was bad enough on his own, he didn't need to go about terrifying the population of students.
"London, huh? About as far away as me." He lay out a few snack bags of chips and the like, as well as some soda for the blonde to pick from as he took some for himself and sat at the kitchen table where his computer was. He currently had it open to some local newspaper site. He liked to stay informed if he could. "I went to school in Japan last year, but after an accident I was sent home. My father lives in South Africa, does a lot of business in and out of Johannesburg." He spoke the name of the town with a rather fitting accent. He was honestly surprised he didn't speak with much of one given where he grew up, but he supposed some of his English speaking friends had gotten him out of it.
The blonde mentioned something about a final paycheck and the brunette frowned, his head tipping to the side a bit. "I can lend you some money if you need it. I get way more than I need and I usually just spend it on video games anyways." He shrugged. Video games and take out. "I can't cook at all really. No one trusts me with a stove. So I always just order food to be brought to me." He shrugged again, looking back at his computer screen and scrolling through the news a bit. "So. TRS, huh? That's why you're here so much? You work with Ian?"
Michael had taken notice of the brunette's food style but it wasn't any of his business really as to what the brunette lived off of. He accepted what was offered out and just opted to grab a bag of potato chips and took a seat at the kitchen table. His ears practically perked up at the brunette's mention of his father being from Johannesburg in South Africa, that sounded extremely familiar. "School is boring anyway, everyone there are just complete idiots. You'd be better off saving yourself from their idiocy doing school from home. Though Johannesburg, huh? It sounds really familiar for some reason, probably on one of the papers my former boss had." He shrugged a little and opened his bag of chips, pulling one out to munch on that.
However, at the mention of the brunette lending him money Michael widened his eyes and quickly shook his head. "No! No, I can't accept that! I'm fine, really. I got paid rather well, I was a bit up there and I sometimes impersonated my boss for some business deals so I was paid handsomely. I had a really, really nice loft back in London so I'll be fine, really." He blurted out, shaking his head. "I'm sure TRS will pay me fine...not as much but..." He trailed off, shrugging. Though at his words about TRS he hesitated a little as he grabbed another chip, letting his eyes settle on that for a few moments before biting it.
"He's my mentor currently. Training to become a Hunter I suppose. I'm...not really here to get anything from him really. I just..." He trailed off, scratching the back of his head a little. "It's too quiet at my place. I've got no one here. My family...I'm not in contact with any of them and those that I had thought as family I've lost contact with as well when I was moved here. I only ever use the excuse to bug him so I'm...not alone I guess. But like hell I'll ever let him know that." He sighed and shook his head, eating another chip as he glanced away. "What about you? Are you still in contact with anyone back where you came from?"
Prepare the diving bell It's time to take this low I sink into myself, low No need for farewell
It seemed that the blonde always had a lot to say, which he supposed was fine with him. Maybe he was uncomfortable, or maybe he was too comfortable. Either way, the brunette listened to him speak about whatever things that he had to speak about. When it came to the question of whether or not he kept in contact with anyone he just shook his head, suddenly looking rather sullen. "I can't... For my safety." He wished it didn't have to be that way, but every single one of his old friends had contact with his ex, and that wouldn't be good for anyone. Though, it was only a matter of time before he found him, and Akira knew it.
He took in a deep breath and slowly exhaled it before explaining his situation to the blonde in a little more detail. "I had some trouble at my last school. There was this guy and I loved him. I really did. But things grew complicated and he tried to kill me. Left me in an alleyway to die. Luckily I was found and rushed to the hospital, but my father had me removed and brought home." He shook his head a bit. "But my ex he... He stalked me. Somehow followed me all the way to Johannesburg. My father found out and had me sent here. I know it's only going to be a matter of time before he finds me again but..." He just drifted off and nervously picked at his sleeves. "I guess that's part of the reason I never want to go out. I'm afraid he'll be out there. Waiting for me."
Michael listened to him speak, explaining that he couldn't contact anyone due to an ex he had that had tried to not only kill him but stalk him as well. The blonde's eyes widened in shock at his words, forgetting about the snack he had been munching on as he practically shot out of his chair to stand. "That bastard! That's horrible how he's not only hurt you but isolated you as well!" He exclaimed, the shadows that came from both teens and from the furniture rippling and melding together as they latched onto his legs. Whoops, but oh well.
"I've gotten pretty good at my abilities back in London so if he comes here I can kick his ass." He spoke up, nodding in approval of that idea as he crossed his arms with a small huff. "I could probably try just scaring him off. Land him in the crazy ward maybe. So long as he stays away and doesn't torment you anymore." He shook his head and sighed after a moment, glancing down at his shadows before he allowed his power over them to fade away.
"Sorry...probably startled you with all of that. I just...I don't know why that made me so angry." He spoke up, glancing back up towards the brunette as he took a seat once more. "I...don't normally talk this much or get this emotional over someone I don't really know so...it...it confuses me as well I guess. But...I'd still like to come over and hang out at least." He glanced down at his bag of chips, reaching out to grab one and nibble it as he just kept his eyes down. Gods, he was...really smooth wasn't he?
Prepare the diving bell It's time to take this low I sink into myself, low No need for farewell
Akira was taken aback by the display of power and the over emotional blonde. He felt it himself, the overwhelming desire to protect him and whatever else. It made his head swim. He shook it off as best as he could, putting an almost embarrassed look on his own face. "Don't worry about it but.. Umm.. Let's try not to do that again, okay? Don't want to ruffle the wrong feathers if you know what I mean." He gave a small nervous chuckle afterwards, his hand hovering above his heart for a moment. "Besides, it's my fault anyways. Everything that happened. I don't know why I thought things would change. I just kept taking him back, over and over again, no matter what he did." He sighed and shook his head before taking a drink of his soda. "I guess I'm just that way."
Michael glanced towards the brunette as he spoke, managing a slight smile at the comment about ruffling the wrong feathers. "Yeah...definitely." He agreed, nodding as he took a bite from the chip he had been nibbling on. Though his eyes moved back over to the brunette as he spoke, telling him of how he had kept taking his ex back over and over again. The blonde scanned his eyes over him and watched him for a few moments before he reached a hand out to touch his wrist at least.
"Hey...you loved him a lot, right? I...guess it's only natural for that to happen. I mean, I've not experienced it before so I can't really say much." He told him, voice growing a bit gentle as he let his eyes train on the brunette's face. "I'll protect you from him, I swear to it. I'll do whatever I can to make you feel safe, yeah? Even if it means sleeping in front of your door at night." He added as he gave him a comforting smile, sliding his hand to hook a finger around one of Akira's a little for a few moments before he pulled his hand away. "I'll be here for however long you need me or whenever you need me."
Akira just shook his head at the things the blonde was saying. "You sound like a stalker saying those things..." Or a puppy. Either way, it was a responsibility that he was definitely not ready to have. "I'm okay on my own for a bit anyways. Maybe." He shrugged. "Besides, Kyou is more... Active. Ever since the attempt on my life he jumps at every danger there is. Even things as small as you running into him in the street like that. You attacked him, so. He destroyed you." He said it almost simply, but he was still rather nervous about it. "I'm sure he would protect me if it came to it. But the people I care about, they make him weaker against me. I don't want to hurt them, but he does."
