Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

“Good night,” Thannah called back to her mother and retreated down the hallway. The light pitter-patter of Holly, her spaniel puppy, followed closely behind her. When she came to her bedroom door, the sight of it closed caused her to pause, her neutral expression deepening into a frown as her thin brows drew together. Had she closed it before she had left? Odd, she hadn’t thought so, but she didn’t think beyond that as she opened the white door. As soon as there was enough room, Holly squeezed through the crack and scampered into her bedroom. [break][break] Shutting the door behind her, Thannah felt a swell of… uncertainty brew within her chest. Was she being paranoid? There was just something… off. It almost felt as though there was another presence within her bedroom. Had she just psyched herself out? Holly certainly hadn’t noticed anything. Thannah’s violet eyes roamed to her spaniel who had immediately taken up residence in her doggy bed by the window.
The lights were on in her bedroom, making it brightly lit, and Thannah could clearly see that there wasn’t anyone around. Her room was long and narrow, smaller than the bedroom she previously had lived in. It was already late and her parents had headed off to bed. Summer vacation meant she could stay up late, and so she did just that; sitting at her computer desk she browsed the web, tumblr aesthetics mostly, and bookmarked a few do-it-yourself crafts. [break][break] And then after that she turned her ipod on low, played some soft music, and walked to her crafting desk at the far side of her room, beside her bed. Holly curled up by her feet under her desk as she worked on gluing heart gems to a pink purse she had sewn together. She lightly hummed and softly sang the lyrics of the song until it was well into the night.
Soon police sirens blared over the soft and soothing tone of her music, the flashing red and blue lights illuminating her bedroom walls from her window. The commotion caught Thannah’s attention, especially when the police vehicles stopped down her street and she could hear the distant sound of their radios buzzing as they communicated with one another. [break][break] Thannah stood from her desk and ventured over to the window, staring down at the street, the officers, and the flashing lights, a dull expression masking her features. “Lorsette is nothing like Mikail,” She mused with little humor while Holly curled back up within her doggy bed. “There’s so many creatures here.” [break][break] She glanced to Holly and squatted down to her level. “Despicable, isn’t it?” She asked sweetly as she reached out and gave her dog a pet.
The knock at the front door came as a surprise, and Thannah didn’t hesitate to turn her music off. Holly, of course, immediately leapt off of her doggy bed and began barking up a storm. The spaniel made a mad dash for her closed door, head tilted toward the ceiling and tail wagging furiously behind her. [break][break] “Holly, be quiet,” Thannah told her dog firmly as she ventured toward the door and paused at the opening of her closet. Although, her violet gaze was cast toward the wooden floor, trying to envision what was happening downstairs. She could hear the faint sound of her father’s conversation with the police officer. [break][break] Taking in a deep, long, and slow breath, Thannah’s shoulders heightened as she began to concentrate, opening her mind, and focusing. [break][break]
Someone must have seen me breaking into the house. [break][break] Thannah’s eyes shot open, her head lifting up while her heart slammed against her ribcage. But she had heard his thoughts to late — the man came from the shadows of her closet, grabbed her harshly, and sealed her mouth with his hand. A sharp breath stung her throat as her entire body tensed, alarm practically suffocating her petite form. [break][break] Holly yelped in cowardice, falling over herself as she backed up and took up a defensive position, yapping and barking madly at the assailant. Knife, demon, blond hair, brown eyes. What had happened? What had he done? What was going to happen to her? The stench of fresh blood wafted to her nose, making her stomach churn in a sickening way as dread and fear seized control of her. [break][break] “Tell it to shut up,” He threatened her in her ear, and jerked forward to lock her bedroom door. Her heart continued to slam against her chest. “Don’t scream.” [break][break] He released his tight seal from around her mouth and she wanted to. She wanted to scream but fear and horror had her trembling and unable to do anything but what he had initially told her. [break][break] “St-Stop Holly…,” But her attempt was weak, her voice hoarse and dry, sticking to her throat. She was too terrified to listen in on his thoughts, too horrified at what she might find. Holly hadn’t stopped barking and wildly Thannah wondered if he would stab her and be done with it, make his escape out of her bedroom window. [break][break] Time stop — She suddenly and desperately tried to summon the power, but it only flared to life for a split second before fizzling out and dissipating. [break][break] “For heaven’s sake, Thannah, stop Holly from barking already!” Her mother called to her from downstairs, having no idea that she was trapped in her room by the very man the police were looking for.
She was being toted around like the hostage she was as the man took an ominous step forward and hissed at Holly, telling her to shut up. But, her spaniel puppy only scampered away to another safe location to resume her rapid barking. What if he stabbed Holly instead? What if this was how her second dog died? The thought sprung tears to her violet eyes. She needed to do something — maybe slow time for the madman. However, before she could act, a tight mass of solid blackness sealed itself fully around her mouth and then not even a second later she was released from his hold. “Go to her and see if you can calm her down… but don’t do anything stupid,” He warned her as she stumbled forward, her legs practically giving out underneath her. Holly immediately came to her, tail ferociously wagging, and didn’t hesitate to start licking her face. [break][break] But, Thannah’s petrified gaze was trained to the man who had sprung from her closet. He was dressed in a black leather jacket and black t-shirt underneath accompanied with a pair of jeans, and she was horrified to see the blood smeared over him. He still wielded the dark magic in one of his hands, looming over her threateningly, and she swallowed against the lump that had formed in her throat. Her gaze wildly searched him for a moment, but she could find no knife; only the magic. He was a demon — he probably didn’t need a knife! And she had nothing! Nothing she could use against him!
The fear she felt had her lightly hyperventilating and it didn’t help that she felt like she couldn’t breathe properly with the black band of dark magic still sealing her mouth. Her gaze flickered back to the criminal as he moved to close his jacket and hold his side, dispersing the threat of dark magic he had still been swirling within one of his hands. When he crouched down to her level, Thannah physically flinched away from him, her heart still pounding within her chest. [break][break] “I’m really sorry. I’m not going to hurt you… I just… I can’t get caught.” He actually tried to plea his case! “When the cops go I’m leaving and I’ll never bother you again…” [break][break] Thannah’s petrified gaze moved to the window and then toward her door before ultimately returning back to the male in front of her, too afraid to not look at him for long. He was right, she didn’t trust him. Thannah’s breathing continued to remain rapid, especially as she realized her emotions were getting the better of her and now she was picking up his thoughts unintentionally. [break][break] She grabbed ahold of Holly and drew her spaniel into her lap, shakily petting her when she heard his thoughts of annoyance over her potentially barking again. It hadn’t gone unnoticed to her how he kept hugging his side. Was he wounded? Maybe she could slow down time for him and punch him in his wound. Her heart tripled in speed at the thought, though. She… wasn’t a fighter. She couldn’t pull off doing something like that. She’d just end up dead.
She’s not listening to me. Thannah continued to stare at him, eyes wide, but his thoughts were bombarding her like a freight train. He was panicking and scared, thinking about some sort of kid he had saved from a psychopath. Her heart continued to pound, her gaze following his every move as he turned to her and pleaded his case out loud. “I’ve got someone who needs me so I can’t get caught or he’ll come to harm, okay? I know it doesn’t make sense to you, but I don’t have time to make you believe me.” [break][break] His thoughts matched what he was telling her, and Thannah wondered if that meant it was the truth. But, neither did she have the full story. He may have saved a kid, but he had broken and entered their house, and the police were after him. For as much as she knew, he could have been in association with the person he referred to as a “psychopath” and had turned on him to save his friend. [break][break] He wasn’t as much as a threat as she had first anticipated. His panic and fear made him feel more like an amatuer then a full-fledged criminal. Thannah continued to watch him, while breathing heavily, as he moved across the length of her room to peer out her bedroom window. [break][break] Her heart leaping in her chest, she took the opportunity. She flung up to stand at her full height, Holly gripped in one of her arms at her hip, and she jerked around to immediately try and unlock the door and escape. Her hands trembled, her heart pounding so harshly against her chest that it hurt, and she had no idea if she would make it — but she had to try!
Black magic attacked the door and seeped all over her hands as she had been trying to desperately unlock her way to freedom. Her heart leaped in her throat and she immediately whirled around to face the male who had grown rigid with anger. She’s being such a damn problem! His thoughts hissed between them like spoken words followed by, “I’m not going to hurt you.” [break][break] She watched as he roughly drew her pink curtains closed over her window before he turned to face her again. “Will you be less scared if I uncover your mouth?” [break][break] Still breathing shallowly, she gave a nod of her head. Although, by now, she was completely distrusting of him. She knew his true thoughts. He was getting angry and impatient with her, and had labeled her a problem. Beyond that, though, he hadn’t had any violent thoughts, so maybe it would be in her best interest to just… do what he said. She didn’t want to provoke him into anger. [break][break] But, she instantly tensed the moment he picked up her sleek, pink, phone and tried to break into it. “I need you to unlock this.” He ordered and held the phone out to her, but she hesitated in taking it.
“Okay, I’ll put it here. Put the code in and then back away if you’re still worried I’ll hurt you.” He placed her cell phone down and backed away, giving her the space he had promised. But, that wasn’t why she had hesitated. If this man was a criminal and the police were after him, then by calling on her phone wouldn’t that tie her into whatever crimes he had committed? It wasn’t like she had a choice… [break][break] More of his thoughts were flooding her bedroom, this time about how terrible he was at holding someone hostage. If thoughts of people really were the truth unspoken, then he really had no idea what he was doing and had no intention to hurt her. But, she was too terrified to allow herself to be calmed by “possibilities”. [break][break] “I’ll uncover your mouth after, I promise. I really need to make a call,” He pleaded with her; or at least it was beginning to sound like it, rather than the ominous monster he had appeared to her as prior. [break][break] This guy didn’t want to be in this situation anymore than she did. She could hear as much within his thoughts. But, it didn’t change the fear. It didn’t change any of the facts. It filled her stomach with an uneasiness as she stepped forward to place Holly down onto her bed and then pick up her phone, unlocking it for him to use. [break][break] Her nerves were frazzled, but her expression had stiffened, becoming passive and deadpan as she looked back to him and held her phone out for him to take.
The house intruder’s thoughts were getting loud again as Thannah unlocked her phone and turned to hand it over to him. His mind was a mess, his thoughts wild and erratic, coming so quickly that it was actually difficult for her to catch everything. But, with his mind being such an open book, the scene that had apparently taken place was beginning to come together like pieces of a puzzle. What she had gathered so far from his rapid thinking and mulling was that he had saved some sort of kid. He continuously referred to him as such, but Thannah wasn’t certain if it was meant to be taken literally. Had he actually saved some sort of child from a criminal? [break][break] Thannah couldn’t believe that the entire story was literally being laid out before her by the intruder himself. It was as though he were placing notes to a bulletin board for her to study and read over. He had called the cops when he had thought he had been witnessing a kidnapping? But, how did any of this make sense? How could any of this actually be real and truthful? Was she supposed to trust it? Everything she had ever heard from others had always been the truth — a person’s mind always betrayed their inner most feelings, even when they tried to lie to themselves. The truth was always there, in the tone, aura, and emotion of the thought. [break][break] Thannah blinked, but purposely remained impassive, taking in a slow but deep breath as he took the phone from her and was immediately creeped out by her change in demeanor. The window to the soul was certainly interesting, and if she could have gotten away with it, she would have smiled in that moment. He was becoming more and more pathetic in her eyes, at least in the way of a would-be killer. He had apparently done something rather heroic, if his thoughts were to be trusted. Although, it hadn’t been so heroic to break into a girl’s bedroom in the middle of the night and then take her “hostage”, scaring her out of her mind. [break][break] She remained quiet, her violet gaze lowering to the gray carpet underneath their feet as she listened to his conversation with the “kid”. He didn’t sound like a child, but he did sound young enough. Maybe around the same age as her? And he was, in fact, petrified. Thannah’s gaze lifted toward the male in her bedroom when he looked to her, uncomfortable with being forced to have this conversation with her standing within earshot. Served him right, after what he had done to her tonight. [break][break] What a mess… What a complete disturbance to her life. What a scare and terror. It was infuriating to think now on how he had been irritated with her previously for becoming as frightened and uncooperative as she had. Would she ever be able to sleep soundly in her bed at night? Did he have any inkling of an idea of how much trauma and fear this little act of his may instill within her? For months to come? And he had the audacity to become irritated with her. [break][break] Thannah moved to sit on her bed and pull Holly into her lap, slowly and carefully petting her once more as the man before her hurriedly tried to finish his hushed conversation on her phone. Her violet eyes bore into him when he finally turned to face her and hung up the phone call. As promised, he used his power to remove the black magic that had been used to seal her mouth. [break][break] “Is there any other way out of your place besides this window? Like a back door or something?” He asked, wanting to desperately escape the prying eyes of the cops. [break][break] Thannah’s hands curled into fists in her lap, her emotions brewing deeply within her chest as she glowered up at him. He continued to have thoughts toward everyone and everything but her. She could understand his predicament. She could understand his panic and fear, and his care toward the kid he had saved — but what about her? [break][break] Slowly and carefully she placed Holly aside on the bed and then stood to her full but petite height, her eyes never once leaving his, and her facial features a mask of stoic aloofness. She slowly raised one of her hands up and then concentrated, her brows drawing down as she slowed his biological clock and then slapped him square across the face with her tiny, smooth, hand. [break][break] Reversing the effects of slowing his time, she sat back down onto her bed, her heart now officially thundering in her chest. She felt stiff and wooden, and still scared all the same, especially after doing something as large as slapping him. She could even feel a tear or two stinging her glossy eyes as her chest lightly heaved. [break][break] “You’re simply going to have to wait until they leave. Then you can sneak out my window.” She told him stiffly, her gaze no longer on him as she stared off to the side, a little afraid of what he may or may not do in retaliation.
But, again there was no violence and no hint of malice in the thoughts that followed her attack. He stood by her bedside, staring down at her, with thoughts of confusion and fear over the power she had revealed to him. The fact that he had a moment of fear, of doubting his own safety, actually caused Thannah to lift her gaze and look to him. “...Thanks…,” He muttered out with uncertainty, and then turned his gaze away from her to look toward the window. [break][break] Was it fear that made her act this way? She felt a twinge of annoyance at his baffled thoughts and the fact that he couldn’t answer his own question. Of course it was fear. He had lept from the shadows of her closet, in the middle of the night, to grap her from behind and seal her mouth with his hand. He had threatened her not to scream, threatened her dog, and had barred away not only her escape but her ability to speak. How was any of this “hard to read”!? [break][break] “I most likely won’t get a wink of sleep after this,” She told him aloud, her voice flat as she stared down at Holly who was in her lap once again. Calmly, she pet her dog as she continued. “Or for many days to come.”
Thannah continued to stare down at Holly as she pet her spaniel puppy, watching as her tail wagged and she grew curious and nosey, turning her large eyes onto the demon who had intruded their bedroom. Thannah took in another slow and steadying breath as she tried to calm her frazzled nerves. The tides had unexpectedly shifted and somehow the demon had come out feeling foolish and in her dept. The situation hadn’t been as prestine as he seemed to have the impression of, but she was glad nonetheless that he felt she was stronger and more capable than what she was letting on. Of course, Thannah didn’t believe so. Her fear and petrification had been completely genuine. Tonight had been a horror and blight, and she wished it had never happened. [break][break] “You can… There are medallions you can get that’ll keep anyone from entering your room.” His statement caught her attention and brought her gaze to him, surprise trickling into her stiffened features and posture. She… hadn’t thought of that. It was actually a rather good idea. [break][break] He seemed to go into an inner tangent on himself and all the things he couldn’t say, for fear of them sounding incredibly stupid and unbelievable, but Thannah chose to interrupt them by speaking up herself. [break][break] “Thank you,” She offered, and even gave him a small, soft, and hesitant smile. “I hadn’t thought about that, and it will help… some.”
“Don’t thank me.” He shook his head and interjected before she was able to say more on the subject. “I’m just trying to give you something after… everything.” [break][break] Thannah watched him as he looked around her room and clearly felt guilty over the whole fiasco. She wondered why she hadn’t picked up any violence or malice in his thoughts. And now he was attempting to make what amends he could with her, she supposed. At least he was finally paying attention to the damage he had caused her. Although, Thannah realized that being able to so openly read others thoughts left her with a bit of a dilemma. Somewhere along the way, she had lost track of what was actually revealed to her through speech and what were the things she had extracted from his mind. [break][break] Thinking about it now, and feeling slightly more at ease with who this person was, she had to admit that it was a little… thrilling to have a demon choose her bedroom out of all the houses in the neighborhood to infiltrate. He also didn’t seem to be that bad of a guy, and he was attractive, dark, and mysterious to boot. [break][break] She put on a pretty little smile for him as she continued staring his way. “I don’t think you’re the bad guy… I first thought you were,” She admitted in a soft whisper.
“I’m really sorry for scaring you… I tried knocking before coming in…,” He had completely settled down and even Thannah felt surprised by their casual conversation. Still, his previous thoughts were reassuring and continued to build his case of not being a psychopathic murderer. She was surprised, regardless, when he chose to give her his name. “I’m Nicolas… Nicolas Conium… you can go to the cops after I leave if it makes you feel better. I just couldn’t get caught right now because someone else’s safety is involved.” [break][break] Thinking back, Thannah still couldn’t distinguish between what had been said to her and what she had pried from his mind, so it was best to play ignorant to most everything. Still, she was genuinely surprised that he had given her his full name. Although, she wasn’t fully trusting of its validity. [break][break] She was starting to feel more and more appreciative of her mind-reading power. It was certainly giving her an insight she had previously lacked. Of course, she would never want the same to reversed onto her. She wasn’t ignorant to the fact that it was a complete invasion of other’s privacy. [break][break] Oh, I think you should make it up to me…, she thought to herself, wanting to frown, but keeping her smile regardless. [break][break] “If… you’re protecting someone… then why are you the one the police are after?” She inquired with now feigned hesitance.
