Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

[attr="class","kingsNotes"]can i get uhhhhhh some help for Akira?
[attr="class","kingsLyrics"]Keep your guard up
[attr="class","kingsBody"]
One of the many mottos Akira keeps in his mind is 'expect the unexpected'. That's why he wasn't exactly surprised when the Assembly of Phantom soldiers broke into the hospital. They were a chaotic group, and if they wanted to hit the TRS where it hurts, it would definitely be the medical ward. More than anything, Akira was annoyed. He was supposed to have a date with his wife tonight, something he's always looking forward to. Now he couldn't. There would be a lot of damage control after these- hold on.[break][break]
The agitated male halted his thoughts as he saw a AP soldier coming towards him and the patients he was leading. Just as swiftly as the man approached, Akira quickly disarmed him and bent his arm around his back. He then slammed the man's head into the wall until he was knocked out. The blood on his forehead did not phase him, but he made sure to give a disarming smile to the mother and teenager that he had been taking care of before this mess. "Sorry for the sight. I promise I'll get you both to the gymnasium safely. Let's go."[break][break]
Akira motioned for the two women to walk with him. He didn't want them in front, nor in the back, afraid of enemies coming from any direction. He would have to keep them close and in eyesight until he found someone else to assist in escorting the patients. Hopefully that help would come soon.
Kiona had been on her way back to the ward, she hadn't been expecting to get attacked from behind. She struggled as the AP member attempted to keep attacking her, touching the ground she forced plants to emerge from the ground to tangle around the AP member before climbing the veins, once in reach, she would pinch the nerve near the neck as to cause them to pass out before releasing them from the plants. It was around this time that the alarms went off regarding the attack. At first her goal had been to help the citizens as she was ordered to do, but she knew if there was the slightest chance of injury to the TRS members, they would be in much trouble so instead she had headed towards the ward instead.
Just as she made her entrance, Akira had finished slamming another AP member's head against the wall. There were patients all over the ward, with a few scared ward medics as well. Her back hurt, the injury of cut still fresh as she failed to tend to herself. She knew Jason wouldn't likely be happy about it but if there were words, she'd gladly listen to them as soon as they both made it out of here alive. Until then, she would help the ward get things in order, such as escorting everybody to the gymnasium. "Akira." She answered, nodding respectfully as she looked around the room. Fear was apparent on many of the medics that she could see hiding in here.
Everything appeared to be an average summer day of work. Sunlight filtered through the window, gracing filing cabinets with tidy stacks of beige folders on top of their metal frames. The soft sounds of singing birds cheerfully carried through the slightly opened window. Silently, Brasti worked behind his desk, gradually going through the folders of the newest apprentices to perform background checks and verify the information provided. A trio of computer screens was stationed on the desk, two holding small pictures of several video feeds from the TRS security camera system. The monitors displayed nothing particularly interesting, Brasti's eyes occasionally flitting between them and the file's information. The center monitor displayed several documents as the demon verified the information as needed. For minutes, the verifying proceeded alongside the casual checks of the other monitors, although, Brasti's task was interrupted when one of the monitors dinged. Quickly, the scout deputy's violet eyes flitted towards the monitor which held some of the medical ward cameras. A brow raised when he noticed some of the cameras in the area had gone down, leaving black rectangles.
[break][break]
A radio settled on the desk was grabbed, Brasti flicking on the device to speak. "Hey, the exterior cameras outside the medical ward went down, anybody got a visual?"
[break][break]
Dead static answered the demon, concern breaking on his usually offensively calm expression. Seconds passed before the building violently shook, Brasti grunting from the sudden movements. The once tidy folders toppled onto the floor, everything rattling, however, the deputy's eyes locked onto the medical ward cameras. Two cameras mysteriously going dead, failing communications followed by a shaking building suggested things were going to transform into a horrible type of interesting. When everything steadied, Brasti's eyes widened as he noticed the large holes in the medical ward's walls alongside terrors and Assembly soldiers. Without hesitation, the demon slammed his hand onto the alarm, the blaring sound quickly filling the building as red lights shone in the hallways, loudspeakers being used to provide where people would be taken. Immediately, Brasti stood, slamming down the window before leaving his office, cellphone in hand and sunglasses carefully pushed back on his nose. Quickly, he closed the door, locking it shut before lifting his phone, smoothly opening the medical ward cameras and flitting between them. Communications were cut, therefore there was nothing he could accomplish by being behind a screen.
[break][break]
As he moved through headquarters, weaving smoothly through the hallway and relaying information about communications being down as needed. Gradually, more notifications about cameras going down rung from his phone, Brasti using what remained to locate a small group of people which included an injured girl in green, the head medic and a pair of what he would assume were patients. People were disorganized, an inevitability considering the unexpected nature of the attack; usually the Assembly of Phantoms avoided their headquarters. There was little incident throughout his travel to the group. Upon arrival, the deputy assessed the area before motioning for people to come to his location. The blue accents of his uniform accompanied by the pair of blue stars marked him as a scout deputy. A few people failed to notice his presence, thus the scout deputy brought a pair of fingers to his lips and released an attention-grabbing whistle; he wished it was unnecessary.
[break][break]
"C'mon, I'm here to help you out of here," Brasti called.
[break][break]
Another glance was taken to the phone, Brasti checking the surrounding cameras that were still functional for terror and Assembly members. If possible, the scout deputy planned on avoiding those parties as much as possible, however, he was mostly hoping to avoid anybody sneaking up on them. Unfortunately, there were only uncertainties about what struggles their path could potentially hold. The inevitable occurred, the Assembly of Phantoms attacked the TRS headquarters and infiltrated the area with little error, meaning they were left to keep the pieces together.
Akira's attention was immediately drawn as one of his medics walked in, clearly injured. If there was anything that Akira hated most, it was seeing the people he's supposed to take care of injured. And mere moments after this whole thing began he'd already failed. "Kiona," He was worried, but rightfully so, "Let me heal you, we'll need everyone at full strength if we want to take patients to the gym without any injury to them." [break][break] When she gave him the go ahead, he quickly worked through the hex, and watched to make sure her injury healed fully. Just as he was about to address her again though, he was interrupted by a whistle. The head medic was immediately alert, but his tenseness was dissipated the moment he turned to see a scout deputy. One he was fully familiar with as well. [break][break] Seeing as he was now here to help move the patients to the gym, Akira took it upon himself to be the first to move, motioning for the two patients by him and the rest of the room behind him. "You heard the deputy. Patients, if you are able to walk, please do so, and if you need assistance, one of the medics will help you." As soon as he spoke, the medics began fussing with the patients requiring help. As this happened he walked over to Brasti. "How is the situation so far? And how exactly did all of these terrors get in?"
Kiona heard his comment, it took a lot of effort to compose herself so that her injury wouldn't affect her ability to assist when needed, or at least that had been her goal. Of course Akira had noticed her injury and was attempting to heal her. At first she was going to say no, but arguing with Akira would prove a bad idea, because he is the head medic. So she complied, holding still while he created a hex to heal her. "Thank you Akira." She whispered, as she attempted to show her appreciation. In the middle of the healing, she had noticed Brasti walk in. Though she hadn't bothered to address him because she thought he was going to look around a bit more first. The whistle had caught her a bit by surprise but any scared medics hiding had come out of their spot, planning on following Brasti out.
She was quiet when Akira told them to follow Brasti out. She watched as medics helped patients, looking to see if anybody else needed help before quickly grabbing a bag, filling it with supplies. With how long it took, she found herself behind them, having to run to catch up. If they didn't want to use powers to heal, carrying as much supplies as possible to the gymnasium would become a great benefit in the long run. From what she could see, there didn't seem to be any AP in the area, though it worried her there weren't any TRS either. Where'd everybody go? She thought to herself, assuming there was likely fighting somewhere else in HQ.
The Assembly's invasion seemingly caught everybody off-guard, obvious by the premeditated planning and cautious procedures they underwent to avoid detection. Alerts were constantly echoing through the speakers of Brasti's phone as more cameras were taken down, the infiltration reaching new lengths. Frustration entered the scout deputy's mind, but he refused to allow the emotion to break through his calm and serious facade. Scouts were expected to handle matters like navigation and furthermore, higher-ups were individuals people looked towards in moments of crisis. People needed to focus on the main objective as opposed to fretting over the current situation. Unfortunately, with every minute, their chances of unscathed escape were becoming less probable. Carefully, the scout deputy's fingers tapped on the touch screen of his phone while everybody got organized, his eyes leaving it briefly when he noticed a familiar face approach. Each tap allowed him to switch to different footage as he mentally tracked which cameras had gone down recently. The urge to flinch was resisted when he noticed the exterior cameras around where the prison's entrance was had gone down.
[break][break]
Questions were asked, Brasti's violet eyes finally locked onto Akira. He recognized the demon as a head medic of the TRS, however, he was somebody he grew vaguely familiar with during the War of Traitors. Occasionally, he listened as soldiers would mention the name or notice him walking by. Throughout the War of Traitors which Brasti worked as a soldier of Hell, their interactions were limited due to the shortness of his service; Brasti escaped a mere few months into the war. The subtle rustle of medics assisting patients could be overheard in the background, however, the scout deputy was searching for sounds which suggested danger.
[break][break]
"The situation is undetermined at the moment. Communications are down, so I sent some people to handle that, but for the time being, we can't call for backup very easily. I have some scouts texting hunters in the area, but I doubt they will be looking at their phone if their on a mission... As for how they got in," Brasti paused, thinking back to the footage, "I would assume explosives because of the shaking and smoke in the footage I could get... The exterior cameras were down, so I can't say for sure until more research is done."
[break][break]
Several more taps were accomplished to the screen as Brasti proceeded to assess the damages. Inevitably, more would go down, however, all cameras in the training center appeared to be functional. People were gathering in the gymnasium as expected according to the intercom announcements.
[break][break]
"I recommend healing anybody who can fight with magic. With the cameras going down, this could be a bumpy ride and we could use the firepower for a safe escape," Brasti explained quietly.
[break][break]
Safety in travelling through headquarters was a high priority, especially if they wanted to assure everybody would survive the altercation. Several more alerts appeared onto Brasti's phone, the scout deputy narrowing his eyes as his method for safe escape slowly began crumbling down. When everybody was prepared to move, the dark-haired demon motioned for everybody to follow, the pace being gradual to allow medics the opportunity to check if everybody was in the group.
Kiona had noticed the Brasti motion for everybody to follow after him. Though she had chosen to take the rear, she found herself paying attention to the group in front of her, assuring that everybody would be able to make the trip towards the gymnasium. The walk was quiet, a tad bit too quiet. It was making her nervous as she continued following after the group. So far the coast had been clear but who knew how long it would take before somebody else would show up, for better or for worse. As they rounded a corner, a noise could be heard from the distance. Thankfully their group had stopped to observe until she came to realize she knew that TRS hunter. Suddenly she rushed forward, preparing to remove her backpack from her shoulder to tend to the injured woman. "It will be okay." She started, first cleaning the wound before starting to bandage the TRS hunter up.
It hadn't crossed her mind that the woman might be possessed, too focused with her healing treatment to take notice. However it would prove difficult to determined because the woman was currently playing as one of them. As soon as she was finished banding the TRS hunter, she closed the backpack before slipping it over her shoulder to wear it once more. "Are you able to walk?" She asked, glancing towards the group briefly to see if anybody would be able to assist with helping the TRS hunter walk. "I'll be fine." The words had come out as a whisper before a sudden knife had been withdraw, coming straight for her gut.
Gradually, the grouped moved, Brasti assessing cameras, carefully planning their path through headquarters. Cameras were going down, black screens haunting the scouts phone. The demon's eyes narrowed beneath his sunglasses, violet eyes searching through the footage for a clear path. Alas, with everything he required to make those assessments vanishing without hesitation, he would be shortly left guessing the correct path. A soft sigh escaped Brasti's lips as they proceeded down the many hallways, the group moving behind him.
[break][break]
As they proceeded down the hallways, 90% of the cameras were blacked out screens. The demon held back an aggravated sigh before turning the device and shoving it into his pocket. The rougher section of their horror ride would begin and Brasti feared the possibilities that would arise with it. The scout would need to accomplish his occupation on foot, however, he would be required to place the less injured hunters smartly. He turned towards the crowd, getting them to halt while he informed two healed hunters of the situation.
[break][break]
The pair nodded, gathering at the front to start leading the group with the directions given. Meanwhile, Brasti reviewed the group, making certain everybody was healed for the following expectations. They were required to move and quickly should they wish to avoid the possibility of being hunted and attacked by terrors of Assembly members. The initial group was examined before his eyes rested on a pair of women. One was dressed in a medic's uniform and helping the other who was dressed in a hunter's one.
[break][break]
He moved slowly towards him until his violet eyes noticed the shine of a blade heading straight for the medic's gut. His eyes widened, pace hurrying.
[break][break]
"LOOK OUT!" Brasti shouted.
[break][break]
His arm extended, a darkness ball being created and sent towards the possessed hunter in hopes of forcing her away from the medic. The shouts caught the attention of some other hunters in the group who hastily pushed their way to the rear. They were prepared to fight, however, an apprehension might be in order for this situation.
Kiona eyes widened when the knife had come straight for her. She didn't have time to react before Brasti was shouting to look out before a darkness ball had been sent towards the possessed hunter. She backpedaled away from the TRS hunter as means of gaining distance between them because the injured woman had attempted to attack her only moments prior. She remained on the ground, debating on their next course of action. The TRS hunter had been hit before the force had pushed her backwards. The TRS hunter moved to stand up, figuring it would be an easy task, killing the field medic first. "Why would you?" She asked, confused as the TRS hunter rushed towards her with knife in hand.
Danger lurked around the corners of the Terror Response Syndicate Headquarters, obvious by the peculiar behaviours of the hunter. Based on the record Brasti recalled of the woman, she was an excellent fighter, albeit, more brutish in fighting style. Her loyalty was beyond meagre words, something dogs failed to compare to. Throughout her hunter career, she exhibited devotion to the expected deeds of a TRS hunter and accomplished her missions with stride.
[break][break]
Naming the possible reasons behind this change was nearly impossible in the heat of combat. The ball of darkness rocketed through the air, smacking into the hunter. The knife drew away from the medic's gut, rescuing her from a mortifying injury. Instincts of a former fighter kicked in as Brasti proceeded forward, eyes narrowed into a glare as his mind began calculating his possible options. The female hunter managed to stand from the minor hit, a question leaving the medic's lips as the woman attempted to attack her again.
[break][break]
Fortunately, the distance was closed, darkness forming as Brasti manifested a small shield against the knife. The other hunters became more aware, another rushing over. The hunter manipulated water from a pouch, quickly manipulating it to form around the woman's feet and freeze over.
Kiona watched in fear as the TRS hunter had rushed towards her with knife in hand for the second time in a row. She had asked her question but had yet to hear the answer for it. The distance was closed between the TRS hunter and herself as darkness had formed a shield between them, keeping the knife from touching her. The other TRS hunters rushed over, manipulating water from a pouch to form it around the TRS hunter's feet before freezing it over. "You're all going to die!" The TRS hunter suddenly started shouting, struggling to free herself because she was frozen to the ground. She slowly moved to stand up from the ground, being reminded that she was injured despite attacking her. "Why is she doing this?" She mumbled, worried for the safety of the TRS hunter despite having been attacked by her only moments prior.
Ice coated the crazed woman's feet, trapping her in place. Her inability to move allowed Brasti to soothe slightly. Another hunter approached, a quicker one who pressed the correct pressure points on the woman. Moments later, the controlled hunter slumped to the floor. The ice was melted, the quick male who pressed those points cuffing the woman's hands with specialized cuffs made to disable abilities. Shortly afterwards, he hauled her over his shoulder, carrying her and taking a place beside his fellow hunter, the water manipulator.
[break][break]
The crazed proclamations the woman made before being knocked unconscious made it obvious she was not completely there. The demon eased from his battle stance, standing at his complete height. The situation was concerning, mostly from the thought of somebody following and manipulating the hunters. He adjusted his tinted glasses, his middle finger pushing the bridge of the sunglasses higher on his nose. He turned towards the young medic who was nearly harmed by the possessed woman. Fortunately, she did not appear injured from the altercation.
[break][break]
The woman's mumble was heard by Brasti, however, he needed to assure she was alright. His violet eyes analyzed the woman's condition, assuring she was okay.
[break][break]
"Are you okay, miss?" Brasti asked. "As for your question... I am assuming some type of mind control. We better keep moving and keep our eyes open."
[break][break]
He gestured for the dark-haired woman to follow him back towards the group. If needed, he would create a hex to assist with the healing process and allow some other wounded people to enter. They needed to cross the yard and reach the gymnasium, it was a sanctuary for their safety.
Kiona remained on the ground, looking at the TRS hunter that had attempted not only once but twice to kill her. It gave her great relief to see them knock her unconscious instead of flat out killing her, since in her mind she honestly didn't believe the woman to be in the right state of mind. She glanced over to see Brasti adjusting his sunglasses before turning to look back towards her. He answered her question, the one she had asked the TRS hunter when she was in process of being attacked. It made sense to her, of course there was only one problem with how he had checked up on her. That being, miss when he should know her name. It wasn't that big of a deal but she wanted to be called by name. If it wasn't for the fact the head medic had mentioned it prior, it was the fact she knew the role he played and he was bound to know her name whether she liked it or not and chose to not call it anyway.
"My name is Kiona.... K I O N A...." She made sure to spell it out slowly, clearly displeased with being called miss, even though it wasn't that big of a deal. She was gestured to follow him back towards the group but she found herself still sitting on the ground, slowly adjusting before placing the palms of her hands to the ground to push herself up and onto her knees before standing. She wiped her hands together before slowly making her way back towards the group. "And I'm fine, thanks for asking." She added, unsure if he was really all that concerned or not since he had after all called her miss instead of her name.
Fortunately, a quick observation assured Brasti that the medic was uninjured from the earlier altercations. They required everyone to be safe whenever possible. Their current situation was ill-favouring and furthermore, people who administered medical attention appeared to be the prime focus of the Assembly's attack. Thus, their protection was a great concern, alas, those capable of fighting also required preservation to avoid anybody getting injured. There was difficulties discovered in the present situations.
[break][break]
The group moved slowly, some trickling behind to watch the pair and assure the scout deputy leading them would rejoin the group. He referred to the woman as 'miss' to avoid any issues revolving around possibly giving the wrong name and to keep things quick, however, the woman proved to be more amusing. If he guessed, she had a vague notion of his identity and the facts which arrived with that. An amused smile crossed the demon's face as the woman went about stating and spelling her name despite the dire circumstances.
[break][break]
"I see, Miss Kiona," he responded with some emphasis on her name.
[break][break]
Amusement laced his words as she watched the young woman rise from the tiled floor. When she managed, she stated how she was fine and failed to get injured from the hunter's attack. He nodded at the thanks, a smile still evident as they turned and returned to the group.
Kiona had noticed his amused smile and chose to not comment on it, feeling happy when he called her by name. Or at least that was until a thought had crossed her mind that he might have been teasing her in the process. Right... Well I have work to do. I can't let it bother me. She thought to herself as she finally stood up from the floor to join Brasti. She answered his question, being sure to thank him before joining the rest of the group with him. Time seemed to be going by slowly as they walked, being cautious because an enemy could be around every turn. She wasn't a fan of being a possible target, but she knew that being safe despite not favoring the protection that seemed to be over her head now. There was a noise, she paused with the rest of the group, waiting to see what awaited them up ahead.
