Polvu Yakov "Wealth is the material thing that replaces life."

APPEARANCE | |||||||||

➤ overall | |||||||||
Polvu loves shrouding himself in mystery, as much as any merchant; dark purple hair and grayish violet eyes should radiate such an aura, as well as pale skin. Half of his face is covered by bangs swept to the side, covering his right eye, which has a burn mark on it. His appearance greatly contrasts his wardrobe, however, though befits that of a businessman; a white tail coat and white ribbon tied to his collar, covered by a black trench coat which he swings on his shoulder. As a merchant, he fancies suits and coats, or generally clothes that make him classy. Casual clothes are comprised of polo shirts and simple black pants; he also keeps his nape length hair tied with a ribbon, the same color as the one on his collar. Polvu is also rather tall (taller than Garret, to the latter's annoyance); not too muscular, though certainly can't be regarded as lean, either.

Befitting a merchant, Polvu is calculative, and thinks rationally in situations that may be of benefit to him. Intelligence is also a most common trait, able to think critically, in almost any situation. If something happens to be most difficult, he remains calm and collected and can think of strategies to get out of a dangerous situation, or even make it of benefit to him, maybe through compromise or even force. Polvu never throws an idea away and would always find anything to use it with, whether it be big or small. He is also dedicated to his work, and is highly skilled in negotiation, and perseveres without stop if he has set a goal. Polvu, however, is as greedy as anything. Acquiring so much wealth in all his trades (illegal or legal) has made him want to seek more and more wealth as time passes. The rarest of things must be kept safe as possible, and anything of the highest amount can be bought through sacrifice of something with less value. He is also quite impatient and would not tolerate impudence among his slaves or the merchants he controls- making him quite an impossible person to be friends with. In general, he is not the loveliest man to be considered a friend, and he himself tries not to be. He would more so likely think of you as a colleague, but nothing else. Polvu can also be quite petty. He is very choosy of the things he wants, and only wants things that have use to him, have value, or what he considers classy or elegant. To his mutuals, primarily he is a tease and would always try to annoy you in any way he can. If known deeper than this, though, he is not afraid to use you for his own personal gain. His slaves always fall victim to his abuse, and Polvu couldn't care less how they feel about that. He would rather live a modest life than one with addiction, though. Polvu despises alcohol, drugs, and smoking- he considers them nothing but distractions to business. He is not so strict with the merchants he controls if they ever do any of the three things, only when they are working. Garret is a rather huge part of his life, and he admires his older brother greatly. However, he secretly fears him as well. Polvu would not dare to cross Garret the wrong way; teasing is fun and alright, yes, but he is also careful not to make him angry. That's why he complies to Garret's every whim and want; his older brother is the only one who is able to keep him under control, somewhat.
ABILITIES | |||||||||
➤ overall | |||||||||
..:: STRONG GIFTS ::.. INFORMATION ACQUIREMENT ( master ) The ability to take information from a person, object, or place, only through looking around (if a place is being acquired information from), or contact with a person or object. This information is then stored in his mind, and could come to him if the situation calls for it. For him, this is his most useful skill, as he can use it for many things; either to store it in his head somewhere, blackmail, or better yet, to sell it. Polvu finds great joy in getting information from anything he makes contact with. He is a master in this skill and can take information at will, without even needing force to get it. It is through this ability that he is able to blackmail various individuals to bow to his will, as well as being another form of income for his business. To avoid getting your information taken, you can use charms or curses against him, or have an ability that blocks him from entering your mind and taking the information he wants from you. Place wards in areas so he may not obtain information from particular areas. And, of course, you can threaten him. But that means nothing to him, either way. MIND CONTROL ( advanced ) The ability to control the mind and will of a person. Eye contact with the person or a simple touch of the skin is needed for this ability to work. This ability is the reason why he is still able to control the masses of his merchant organization, as well as his victims in assassinations should they refuse an offer from him. He can cast this ability on multiple people, even a hefty group. This ability, however, seeps a lot of energy from him, and he ends up tired and vulnerable once he finishes. Thus why this ability is used only rarely and in dire situations only. ..:: WEAK GIFTS ::.. OMNILINGUISTICS ( advanced ) The ability to understand, speak, and study any language immediately. This ability proves essential to Polvu in conversations and deals with people who do not speak in his native tongue, English. He can speak any language at will, most notably those he is adept with, though he needs to study the languages that he has no experience with before being able to speak and understand them. Polvu is already adept in speaking the Russian, French, Norwegian, and Green languages without his ability, but he has more other encounters with people who do not speak these tongues, thus his omnilinguism is a needed tool for him to communicate with such people.

The world is a cruel place. That's what he was taught. An assertion from his mother, back when he was a child. It was a time when mother and father told him stories before bed, a time when he would always wonder aloud and ask questions, and receive answers from his parents. He'd never got bored of stories, especially those told by his mother- how different he was then from what he is now still leaves him bothered, but it remains a silly memory, and he pays it no heed. They tell stories of life outside of home, of the people that live alongside them. They tell him the story of the day he was born, when he was greeted with so much celebration and happiness once he came out of his mother's womb. There were promises whispered in his ear, words that a baby could not understand, a child could not remember, and a man would not care about. But they tell him over and over again in these stories, the promises that have been said. Promises were a fickle thing, he figured. Had those promises been made because they had failed something in the past? He does not realize he'd said that aloud, but it was not ignored, either, as his mother decides to tell him the answer through another bedtime story. "There was a boy with magical potential, something he inherited as a child. However, because of this, he is not able to control it, and so became weak and blind as time passed by. So, to heal him, his mother and father went to the mountains, into the woods, and called to the fairies to help him... However, there came a price. As payment for helping him, the boy would have to stay in the forest to be trained, and to be admitted as one with the fairies. The parents cried and were filled with sorrow, but they knew they had no other choice. So, they left their little boy in the care of fairies. They hoped that someday, he would come back home to them." That bedtime story made mother sad, for some reason, so he asks about it. But mother shakes her head and says it's time to go to sleep. So she kisses him goodnight, and father comes in and does the same; the lights are turned off, and he says goodnight to his parents, watching as they close the door of his room. He wonders, and wonders and wonders. Something must have happened. The story felt so... real, to him. It couldn't have been a false lie. Thinking about it now, in current times, he's glad he kept on wondering. ~*~ The world is a cruel place. That's what he was taught.He watches, helplessly, as the house burns with vigor, the smoke suffocating him and taking all the air from his lungs. This was a nightmare, wasn't it? A nightmare that he should be waking up from- If he had enough strength to pinch his cheeks, he would- but the air is escaping his lungs, and his eyes are about to close, maybe to finally say goodbye to a life filled with nothing- But then he is hoisted in the air, and at this he jolts awake; a figure is now carrying him outside of the burning house, silent as he rushes through the flames and walks them out of it with no problem. There was no name given, no identity, because he can't see him properly through his blurry eyes, just the words that he whispers in his ear- "Promises can be broken easily. Never trust them." He wonders, for a brief moment, that it was contrary to what mother and father always said- and they had whispered promises to him, back from when he was a baby- what exactly did that mean, to never trust them? Why? But he could not ask questions that day. He never asks questions to a stranger. Instead, he allows himself to succumb to unconsciousness, and all the world goes black. ~*~ Alexandra Yakov was found, burnt to a crisp. Miko and Polvu Yakov are nowhere to be found. ~*~ The world is a cruel place. That's what he was taught. But thinking about it now, maybe it wasn't so. He and his abductor had surprisingly gone closer than ever, something he couldn't have expected to happen. He burned his house down, after all. Surely that was unforgivable. Polvu only found it wonderful, however. He found him wonderful. The man introduces himself as Garret, the one responsible for the burning of the Yakov residence, and Polvu and Miko's abduction. Their father remained tied up in the back of the car, although given food and drink occasionally by Garret. It was something he could not understand. Why tie him up and beat him, only to treat him well the next day? But he does not bring these into question. Instead, he asks who he is, exactly, and how he knew his parents. There were no other answers that surprised him before this. "I'm your brother." It shocks him, and he becomes confused, and he demands more, asks him to tell him more- What exact relation does he have with mother and father, why go so far as to burn the house down, why do all of those things, why tell him that promises can be broken easily and for that they cannot be trusted- Garret asks if he is familiar with the story of the magical boy, and at this he nods. He goes on to tell him that that magical boy, who was given to the fairies at such a young age due to his uncontrollable power, was none other than him. And then, it all clicks. "The only difference is, they never loved me. They left me in that forest to die, and showed no remorse for it. I am that boy, but also not." Said Garret, with a small chuckle and a soft smile towards him. "Truth be told, I resented you quite a bit. I thought they loved you more than they did me, so they let you stay." It only makes him smile. "Well, now you don't, do you?" How surprisingly close they are now, even with those circumstances. Still, Polvu would not have it any other way. ~*~ The world is a cruel place. That's what he was taught. He and his brother are cruel to their father, as well. They'd thrown him in the basement for him to rot, and there he beats them, day by day, night by night. It makes Polvu happy, for some reason, happier than he should be- The newly formed hatred he'd come to have for his father may be the reason, after the story he'd heard from Garret, and now he thinks his father deserves it- deserves the bruises, deserves the beatings, deserves everything- But Garret doesn't seem to think so, even though he's said multiple times that he hates him. Every time he looks, there's a frown on his brother's face; Garret's attention is never at him as he stares at their father, a sobbing mess, body shivering and trembling, either from the pain or from his cries, apologies wafting in the air but falling on deaf ears- He hates it. The look on Garret's face. He hates it. Finally, he snaps. "You're showing sympathy for him? Now? What, you're going to let him go despite all the things he'd done to you before? You're going to forgive him easily just like that?" "...Of course not. He's a monster to my eyes." Now that was good. So good to hear. Polvu then comes to realize, as the knife slashes through his writhing father's throat and he heaves his final breaths, red pouring from his neck... He and his brother have become one with the cruelty of the world. ~*~ The world is a cruel place. That's what he was taught. He discovers that he is not the only one who thinks this is so, however. Lorsette is a large place, with a rather huge population. Huge populations mean huge groups. Groups like the Terror Response Syndicate, the RCMP, and the most infamous of them all: the Assembly of Phantoms. Polvu and his brother have never liked the side of justice. But they like the idea of the Assembly of Phantoms, and its formation. They want a place to be in. They want somewhere to serve, to aid in its operations. The Assembly of Phantoms seems like a nice fit for them. They become members of the Terror group, and soon they spread havoc wherever they go. Garret, though, seems to think sooner that it has lost its luster on him, and expresses his desire to leave. At first, Polvu wanted to disagree. Polvu became a member because Garret was one. There's no way he could operate in any way without his brother by his side! But Garret promises to stay by his side, no matter what, and also promises to keep in touch. This relieves him quite a bit, but the dissatisfaction of his older brother leaving is still there, somewhat. Then again, he could do nothing as he watches his brother escape into the night, far away from the Assembly. He did not tell anyone of his brother's whereabouts. Garret remains true to his word, though. They are able to keep in touch, and he becomes Garret's partner in crime, an assistant to Hada de Sangre's killings. One point of Polvu's finger and Garret would go there to commit murder. Polvu slays innocents as well. Though not in the manner that Garret does it. He becomes the Assembly's merchant. Aside from his reputation as a travelling one, he carries out missions that seems impossible to infiltrate through simple assassinations. People were greedy, and they want riches. They would gladly flock on something that intrigues them enough that they would buy it and take it from his hands, or offer something else so they may take what they desire from him. Soon, he becomes a successful merchant. He sells well, he trades well, buys well. Missions were complete with extravagant prizes waiting for him. Masses of merchants who'd initially approached him to seek help, now serve him and follow his every whim and command. A ring of merchants, and he was in the lead. The wealth he is able to acquire from his victims and the additional income from travelling back to Lorsette and selling his wares, along with hitmen following his every command... Well. Let's just say it changed him. It may not be a good thing for you, but for Polvu, he could not care less what you think. He was renown as the "Gold Digger" of the Assembly soon enough. What a fitting title. ~*~ The world is a cruel place. That's what he was taught. It is unjust, unruly. It lies, it cheats, it feeds its people with sorrow and deception. The world is greedy, and takes away the happiness that its people so desire, returning only something with less value than what it took. The world is a monster that corrupts people, drowning them in sin, makes them greedy and want for more, even at the cost of their life. ...Frankly, he was the same.
