Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
Ice laden winds swept across the vast mountains whose peaks tore through the clouds to kiss the heavens with snowy lips. Life here was always slow even more so with winters hands taking an iron grip upon the land. No birds sung, nor did critter scuttle through the hollow ambience created by the chilling weather. Only the winds with their fridge breath seemed to be the only thing that was truly alive this time of year. Until the coming of spring where the sun's wraith could penetrate through the looming grey clouds this still landscape would remain.
Through deep wads of fresh snow that clung in heaps to her boots Vala slowly made her way across the rocky base of the mountain range. Knowing just how taxing it was to use her strength abilities Vala had decided against it. Being many miles away from civilization she wasn't keen on dying from high levels of exertion if she use over used her power. Instead she kept herself to a brisk walk through the ankle high snow. While she wasn't going to set any world records for hiking she'd get where she was going soon enough.
Coming around a small bend that traced along the mountains foot Vala came to a stop. Spotting a nearby stump that had long ago been cut down Vala made her way over to it. Reaching up to her chest she worked at the buckle which supported a large camping bag she'd brought. With a click of metal the weight suddenly lifted from Vala's shoulders as the bag dropped to the snowy ground with a soft plop. "Better." Vala muttered softly to herself as she rubbed the spot where straps had been.
Being in the city Vala had the luxury of using her powers quiet often with a ready supply of food nearby. Now out here in the wilds she'd nearly forgotten what it felt like being... well being normal. Every movement took more effort than she was normally accustomed to as if she was swimming in chilled syrup. Thankfully her long hours of extensive training at the gym had gone great lengths in improving her endurance. This wasn't to say she'd easily compete in the Olympics but she was well off enough for the rigorous hiking she was doing.
With a sigh of relief Vala mirrored the dropping of her bag as she sat upon the old stump as it creaked softly under the new found weight. Stretching her arms above her head with a series of soft grunts and sighs Vala glanced around the landscape. Unlike the rocky slopes that rested a few thousand feet above her the area here was a tad less jagged. Here the soft, flat forests had thinned out as they continued their climb towards the mountains peaks. The foot hills were mostly flat at this point with the occasional jutting of rock here and there. Where there wasn't a out cropping of rock to block the seance view vast swaths of ever greens had grown up through the frosty soil.
"Been awhile." Her words echoed out through the hill sides till their strength waned.
Since last leaving the wilderness it had been just short of a year since she'd last been outside the city. Between work and school she often didn't find the time for any thing personal; not that she had much in the way of personal matters to attend to. Yet, every year she set aside a single week for herself. During this period she'd pack up some supplies and venture out into the wilds. Nothing like a little camping under a star lit night to energize one's self. Of course this wasn't the only reason she came out here. "Shouldn't be much further." Voicing to herself Vala eyed the barley visible path through the snowy hillside.
Having come out here once ever year since she was 15 Vala knew these hills like the back of her hand even without the need for a map. When the snows came it would often cause a great deal of stress in finding the right paths to take. With terrors freely roaming the wilderness few people; other than the insane or the brave would venture out this far. Having no civilization for miles around getting lost was easy without any easily recognizable landmarks. Having to make due with odd looking trees or large boulders as familiar sights was the only way to get around in these parts if one didn't wish to get lost.
Finding her breathing returning to normal once again Vala took to standing as she readied herself to move out. If the weather held up without any heavy snowing she figure the walk would be at least another half-hour. Then she could get a fire going to dry her clothes out and get something warm in her stomach.
Christina woke up and went into the bathroom to shower, after a few minutes she got dressed, arming herself with knives in the process. One knife on her bra strap, another on her waist line, and knives per ankle, being held by a strap. She wore a white dress shirt with black slacks, having a belt that held her last knife hidden in it's sheath. She went back into her bathroom to brush her hair out before getting ready to head outside. It had been a few days since she had hit TRS last and it seemed appropriate to start on that again. She slowly went into the kitchen to cook something to eat before making her way to the front door of her house and exiting. She walked around town to search for some Terrors or TRS members so that she could attack them, after a few minutes she found somebody that was attacking a Terror. They were in the middle of reporting in, just barely finished killing the Terror off before she came up from behind them to stab the TRS in the gut. The woman fell to the ground in front of her.
She picked up the radio, "Another member down." She laughed while holding the button down for all TRS members to hear, knowing that scouts might have noticed her already. I wonder how many people are watching me right now, shall I wave? She giggled at the thought before looking around herself with a grin on her face before. Time to go, I bet I can ditch them if I head up Mount Skyline. She thought to herself as she headed out of Lorsette to climb Mount Skyline. I wonder if many TRS members will try and follow me out here, only one way to find out I suppose. She thought to herself, giggling as she kept the radio in her hand a bit longer. The farther up the mountain she went, the more she believed she would get away with her lastest kill. It seemed like only a few minutes later that she had noticed another figure in front of her.
Wait.... somebody else is already up here? She thought to herself, coming to a stop as she debated on her next action. I don't think she is apart of TRS, but they aren't my only targets but at the same time I didn't get much chance to study them up to find out their weaknesses. I might want to try and avoid her even though it isn't really my style to avoid picking a fight. But then again if she wants to pick a fight with me I'll be left with no choice but to let her have it. She thought to herself as she looked behind herself to see if anybody had followed her up here before noticing the girl stand up from her spot and start walking away from her. I wonder what her reason is for being up here. She shrugged her shoulders before slowly following after her, only slightly curious. It would hopefully give her some form of entertainment before TRS managed to catch up to her, assuming they even bothered trying.
With a satisfying popping Vala cracked the joints of her back. The relief that came was short lived but a welcoming for the time being. Doing this probably wasn't the best in terms of her long term health. Even with her enhanced abilities a persons body could only last so long. Being young and not yet feeling the signs of aging such thoughts were years from being of any actual importance. Shrugging off the lack luster thinking Vala bent down and begun to work the straps of her bag.
Silently she worked at tightening the straps that would be placed over her shoulders. After many miles of hilly hiking they had lost some of their tension. Without fixing this now she might find the pack off balance for the rest of the walk or worse yet she could lose something without noticing. Out here without another soul for miles around replacing something wasn't that easy. Losing something like her rations wouldn't be that much of an issue. Spending as much time as Vala had out here in the wilderness she'd picked up a trick or two. Snares, fishing, hunting; of course having heroic levels of strength helped greatly. But losing something like toilet paper... well that was a different story. Leaves... did the trick but it wasn't quiet the same.
As these thoughts went through her head Vala smirked gently to herself. When she first came out here she hardly knew a fraction of what she did now about survival. The first month was the worst. Why she ever decided to leave in the winter was still a mystery to herself. As if the snows weren't bad enough at the time Vala wasn't quite the armored tank as she was now. Having just come into the wake of her abilities at the time they were just as exciting as they were uncontrollable.
Stopping in mid thought Vala's mind came to attention. Something felt... off. It was the feeling that another was watching her but being so far out this time of the year it seemed impossible that anyone could be here. Then again, she was. Just as quickly as the feeling welled within it dissipated into nothing. Still crouched over her bag Vala listened in silence to the world around. She was certain she felt... something but as the seconds ticked by without so much as a sound she wondered if her mind was playing tricks on her.
"Hm... imagination?" Vala whispered to herself as she finished tightening the straps.
Slipping the pack over her shoulders Vala adjusted the straps once more and the locked them together with a metal clasp. With a soft clink of metal on metal the pack was once again secure to her body. Eyes tracing the snow covered track Vala found her route once more and began the last leg of her journey. With only a few miles left a head of her time would seem to crawl by.
----
The last part of the hike was rather uneventful as snow crunch quietly under her weight. For the most part it had been quiet only with the occasional gust of wind blowing snow into her face. Carelessly she'd clean her face and resume her slow gait as if nothing was out of the ordinary. In reality Vala was on edge. At her stop she was certain someone, or something had been watching her. Her senses were at their peak searching for any sound or scent out of the norm... but everything was as it had been since she started her trip. "Maybe... I'm just paranoid. After all, if someone was out there they'd say something... right? Not often that you find another person out here. So naturally if you did see someone you'd say something."Speaking to herself Vala tried using logic to calm herself.
While in thought Vala hadn't even noticed she'd crested the final hill to where her camp site was set up. It was only when she ran head first into a low hanging branch that her focus to the real world came back. Snow fell in a flurry over her body as the tree shivered under the sudden impact of Vala. Eyes shut under the torrent of blinding white Vala just stood there and took it. Ending up as a snowman seemed an appropriate punishment for not paying attention. The snow continued to fall for a few moments before stopping leaving Vala covered in the powdery white substance.
Shaking herself off like a wet dog flakes of snow escaped her body only to fall to the ground silently. Sighing Vala stepped out from under the tree to find herself near the small encampment that rested against a large out cropping of rock. The spire-like rock appeared around twenty five feet tall and against once of its faces rested a wooden leanto no more than six feet high. The structure itself was rather rustic with its timber clearly made with primitive tools as various twigs stuck out in random spots. From the worn coloring and minor cracks that had begun to form it was clear that it had been around for quite some time.
In the center of the camp lay what remained of a fire pit. Where once a hole for the firewood had been was now filled deeply with snow. Had it not been for the hand sized stones that encompassed the pit it would have invisible to the naked eye. Memories of long nights stoking the fire came back to Vala as her eyes gazed over the spot. The hardest part of being out here by herself was finding ways to keep warm. Seeing the first trickles of fire as they licked at the air... that was an experience she'd never forget. Luckily this time it wouldn't be nearly as hard since she'd brought a lighter. Some called it cheating but Vala would rather be called a cheater than having to spend another chilly night in the pitch blackness that came when the sun went down.
Finally having arrived at her home away from home Vala felt a sense of relief that she'd not felt for quite some time. Closing her eyes Vala soaked in the world around her as she breathed it all in deeply.
Christina couldn't help but follow after the girl as she continued on her hike, or at least that is what it looked like to her. It wasn't all that hard keeping up with her but she wasn't in a rush, she figured the girl would stop sooner or later and that would be when she finally would catch up with her. I wonder why she chose to come all the way out here when she could have stayed in the city, does she think she'll be safe from the Terrors if she came all the way out here? She was slightly curious at the thought that she might have figured out this girl's plan. Though when the girl had stopped walking, it looked like her choice of location was a camp sight. Interesting, still I am willing to bet she came out here to hide from the Terrors. A small smirk had crossed her face at the thought of this girl also scaring the fear of the Terrors as the rest of the citizens did, or at least she didn't look like a TRS member to her.
Most would wear their uniform and stand against her, so it seemed safe to assume that this girl wasn't likely apart of that group. Christina had stopped walking as she observed the girl from a distance, though it was highly possible the girl had noticed her already and chose to ignore her, it was also possible that she hadn't taken notice of her and she frankly wasn't in a rush to get in a conversation with her. She had first planned to come up the mountain to hide from any TRS member who might have tried following after her. She hadn't planned on running into this girl but now that she had chosen to follow after her she couldn't help but hope that entertainment would come shortly. After a few moments of dead silence she finally chose to speak up. "Are you hiding from Terrors, or were you just really interested in being in the cold?" She asked, figuring it would be now or never. She couldn't help but be somewhat glad that nobody had radioed in on the radio that she had stolen from that TRS member from earlier.
Bitterly cold air swept into Vala lungs as they expanded to take in the vast winter wilderness. Nose rosy as where her cheeks the biting cold tore at any exposed flesh it could sink its teeth into. The conditions that the weather pitted against Vala would be more than enough to fend most people off yet she felt more alive than she had been for quite some time. Since she was a child the cold had never really bothered her. Vala guessed it was something to do with when she was born. With the emergence of her abilities the cold that currently hung in the air seemed little harsher than opening a freezer. Of course there were no frozen meals nor ice cream to be found out here; how unfortunate.
Having taken a few moments to gather herself Vala's eyes opened back to the wonderland that surrounded her. The sights were lovely enough to take in for a few moments after arriving but all good things came to a end. Now her focus fell onto the tattered camp around her. Being gone for nearly a year the upkeep of the camp had suffered terribly. The shelter clearly needed some minor repairs if it was going to provide any type of shelter through out the snowing nights. A few new logs and some cordage made from plant fibers would go a long way in making it habitable once more. Before any of that could be done Vala knew that she'd best get a fire going. While her heightened endurance would keep her limbs from being frost bitten it didn't mean that her blood wouldn't freeze. Already the movement of her fingers had grown ridged and it wouldn't be long till she lost feeling all together. "Mittens... next time." Thinking to herself Vala shook her head for not thinking of such an important article of clothing.
Deciding that there was nothing she could do about it now Vala shrugged the passing thought off. With that settled and now having a plan of action Vala's began her search for firewood. Eyes glancing at the snowy ground of her camp sight Vala hadn't noticed the approach of the stranger. It was only when she spoke that Vala could have jumped out of her boots from shock. Whipping about in the direction of the voice Vala quickly spotted the unknown individual. Standing some distance away it was difficult to make out much details of the figure. From what little that Vala could make out she could tell it was a woman with long flowing hair the shade of amethyst. Aside from that Vala couldn't make out much else.
After the immediate shock of the situation had worn its course Vala's guard quickly rose to its peak. It appeared that her early thoughts that she was being watched weren't simply paranoia. Already a sense of distrust from this new figure had begun to well within Vala's chest. Generally people didn't stalk another person if they meant no harm and it appeared this woman had been following her for quite some time.
"No." Answering in a blunt as tone as possible Vala was making it rather clear she didn't wish for the woman to come any further.
"Why were you following me." Her monotone voice questioned as she kept her emotions in check. "Clearly she's not out for a jaunty hike. No supplies. And her clothes aren't exactly built for this type of climate. Then again... mine aren't. But something about this doesn't feel right." Assessing the situation in her mind Vala gazed at the woman while she awaited her response.
When the girl had finally noticed her and jumped Christina couldn't help but grin over at her. It seemed this girl didn't trust her after all and that was fine by her, though she was still interested in seeing what exactly this girl planned to do before turning her back towards her or taking action. She waited for the girl to answer her question, the grin on her face growing bigger at the bluntness the girl attempted to have. Anybody was afraid of the Terrors but she couldn't help but find herself believing the answer that had been given to her, but it just raised another question, why she had decided to come up here in the first place. Before she could ask the question, the girl had accused her of following her. "I went up the mountain and noticed you, so I followed because I was curious on your reason for being up here." She shrugged her shoulders, not caring if the girl believed her or not, though it was the truth.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked suddenly, the grin on her face had turned into a frown. Its like she thinks i'm crazy to be out here in the first place. She took a step back from the girl, already bored from being up here. "I guess I wasted my time following." She answered after a few moments. There would be no point in staying up here any longer, so her plan was to head back down the mountain since it wasn't likely anybody from TRS had followed her up here. Little did she know that one of the scouts had seen her with the dead TRS member and had given them her description to being captured. The radio went off, "Has anybody found the Ice Queen yet?" Another one would answer, "No, we are still looking for her." She would listen to them go at it, not daring to make a reply even if it meant making this girl believe that she was apart of TRS just not in uniform.
"Just remember to capture her alive, we need to bring her back for questioning." Another TRS member would answer in return. I'll have to remind myself to kill them when I make it to the bottom so that I don't have to deal with them later. She was somewhat annoyed, having gone up the mountain was somewhat of a mistake, though if this girl was apart of TRS she might get wind that she was the woman those TRS members were looking for. "I suppose I better head back down now, then I can help them search for her." She lied, figuring this would be her last chance to avoid any tension with this girl.
