Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff
season
Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
Finally, she had tracked him to this city, Lorsette. It was a nice city, filled with terrors and troubles, but where wasn't? If she understood correctly, her twin was also the cause of some fairly horrific stuff, and because of that, somewhere along the way, she had joined the TRS. But she wasn't the type to just turn him in without observing him either, especially since that wasn't her division. It wasn't her job, was it?
Still, she sat here in this coffee shop, her laptop open before her. She had his previous school records open, and was reading through them. There were big blanks in the record from times where he just wasn't in school, back to times when he was, and she wanted to know more. She wanted to know him. Who was he as a person? Surely not this monster that everyone claimed he was. Oh yeah, that's right, she went digging while she was still in Japan. She followed him from Japan to where their father lived in South Africa. Of course, her twin hadn't been there very long either, not that she knew the history, but now he was here and so was she, now if only she could find him.
It was then that she decided to scope the news, seeing the destruction and terrorism going on downtown. It looked... Familiar somehow. Like it had in Japan. Was it him? Had he caused that? Of course the only videos seemed to be of the aftermath. Some blonde kid walking to an ambulance, TRS getting called in to assess the damage. She was surprised that she did not receive a call, but maybe not as many people were injured as usual. In fact, it looked like there was only one real damaged person. She wondered if there was a way to get his name from on of the other members. Still, for now, she had another task, and she went back to her work before her.
He had to be here somewhere, maybe under an assumed name or something. But the more she looked, the less she found. Without really knowing his aliases, she was having trouble locating him in a school registry. Though, speaking of school. She went off task again and went to register herself for school. Maybe she could just find him there.
She didn't pay attention to the sounds of the coffee shop or the sound of someone approaching with a couple of coffees. The person sat across from her and slid a coffee towards her. It was then that she looked up at the person and nodded before slowly closing her laptop. "Hey. Did you see the thing about downtown? What happened?"
The Assembly of Phantoms strikes again, wreaking havoc in the city and creating panic among the people of Lorsette. This, of course, is a pressure for the TRS. The safety and honor of the city of Lorsette depends on them, people would often say. So far the incidents and destruction in the city makes it a clear goal to taint the name of the Syndicate, with only few lives that are able to be saved from all the rubble they have left behind. They're working hard, but every time it almost seems like they aren't making a difference.
Today, earlier that morning, is the same. Bombing in the area. Fortunately, few people were there, and only one casualty; the rest have only suffered minor injuries and are being treated. Agents were assigned to scout the area for possible suspects or, better yet, hunt and sniff out Assembly members who may be in the area. Zoraya, a senior agent, was among them. There were little to no leads left behind, and the case was paused with great frustration from the agents. The people wanted a suspect, and they wanted them caught. The police were working on investigations as well, though they are too busy with other matters elsewhere to attend to this incident.
Now, the TRS is on break. Zoraya enters the Crescent Moon Cafe with a few other Syndicate members with her, mostly young people, mostly apprentices, and mostly people she did not even know. For now, she wants a spot of coffee. The air is surprisingly chilly, she notices. She pulls her beige coat tighter around her body as she walks up to the cafeteria and gives her order of two coffee. And then, almost like that, she remembers that Kaylie won't be able to come to the cafe. She'd already paid, however. There's nothing she could do but take the extra coffee.
The place is surprisingly packed, saving no room for other customers. There are seats with only one person sitting on them, however; she finds the right place to sit and walks up to the table of a girl with a laptop. "Rough day today, huh?" She says out of nowhere, sliding the other coffee toward her. Too often has she not socialized with others for a long time now, so she figured it was a nice time to talk.
As she sips on her coffee, she sees the girl close her laptop and ask what had happened Downtown. Zoraya sighs and shakes her head. She did not want to be reminded of that. "It was a bombing," She begins, tracing the tips of the plastic cup with a painted finger. "that much is obvious by now. It devastated only multiple buildings, where some construction was going on. Fortunately there was only one casualty and a few minor injuries. The culprit was ever found; there were little to no leads, but it's pretty sure the Assembly was behind the bombing." She explained, taking another sip of coffee, in an attempt to calm her nerves from the recall.
[attr="class","of_life"] She looked up a bit at the person that had sat down with her. She shrugged a bit at the question of the day being a rough one. It hadn't really been that much for her, but for the other members of the TRS, perhaps it was. "A bombing huh?" Well, maybe it wasn't him then. But it hadn't really looked like it had been a bombing, more like a blast of psychic energy from someone who couldn't control it, or maybe from someone who could control it all too well. Perhaps the bombing was a cover up story that everyone else was told. Still, it wasn't like she should really be jumping to conclusions anyways. In a town filled with monsters, anything was possible.
The person across from her looked a little shaken up and she sighed a bit and closed her laptop to actually give in to the conversation. "Sorry if you were there. It looked hectic." She offered a soft smile. "Thanks for the coffee too, I was just about to get a refill." She lived on caffeine after all.
Zoraya tells the younger girl of the happenings in town, and from her response she seems to not believe what has been said. Well, not that Zoraya could do anything about that. The situation certainly does not seem to be a bombing, though to unsuspecting passersby it seems like it. She takes another sip of coffee and ponders what more to say. "Well... at least, that's what I know of." She says, shrugging her shoulders with a seemingly indifferent face. "That's what the investigations say, so far, so I could not be sure what really happened, exactly."
She has no intentions of ever revealing to anyone -- including Kaylie, her dearest friend -- her affiliation to the TRS, and so she keeps quiet about it. The girl's next statement almost makes her say something of it, however, but she holds her ground. Unless this girl is to be trusted, or if she herself is affiliated with the same organization she is an agent to, then that's when she will talk about it. But for this statement, she musters a small apologetic grin, staring at the brown liquid of her coffee rippling against the head of the spoon as she spins it. "...Yeah. It was." She responds finally, voice quieter than it had been. "One of my coworkers almost got injured. Luckily we got away while we had the chance. That one casualty was awful, though."
This would have given her away as she has no clear focus right now, thinking of that incident. Every agent watched as the body with the most fatal blows was covered in a blanket and transferred into an ambulance; luckily they were still alive. But she leaves that thought out, at least for now, and turns back to the younger woman, who thanks her for the coffee as she was about to order another one. "No problem," She says, chuckling as she is reminded of the very reason why she has an extra coffee. "That was supposed to be for my friend, but she couldn't come here. So... figured I'd give it to strangers so I can make new friends." She adds, chuckling harder at the thought of Kaylie's face if ever she were here. She'd probably get smacked.
She nodded a bit. A friend huh? It wasn't odd for friends to meet each other in places like this she supposed. "I don't have very many of those." She mentioned. "I'm new to the area, just moved here last week. Figured this was as good of a place as any to start getting to know the city." Though, at that moment she wished that she had been downtown where the incident had occurred. Maybe then she would have had a clearer answer. Since nobody had really seen the cause of the event, but only the aftermath. Panic, disorientation, the thought of a bombing. Perhaps that was the best for the people to believe.
"I'm actually here looking for someone." Her ocean colored eyes fell on the person in front of her, taking in the woman's appearance. Could she trust her? Perhaps it was best to be polite and see where things led. "Ah, sorry, my manners today. My name is Akemi. It's a pleasure to meet you." She held out her hand for the other to shake if she wanted to with a slight bow of her head.
a little reply for @akemi it's fine, no worries! and sorry for this lateness! ;o;
The girl mentions not having many friends, also stating the cause as to why, and immediately Zoraya understands where she is coming from. She remembered moving in to this city as well, as a new member of Lorsette. They did not meet Kaylie then, only the people that welcomed them here and introduced them to a new home. But despite the friendliness of their neighbors, she really did not have anyone to talk to until she came to her teens. Adjusting to new life is hard, she realizes then. Perhaps this girl would learn that exact same lesson.
"Don't worry, you'll gain more as time passes by," She states, taking a sip of her coffee. Memories fly by as she remembers how she had met her first few friends in high school, and how she met her boyfriend after that. "Moving into a new home is honestly hard, and it would take time to adjust. But soon you will find that the people are kind, and the city is great. Soon you will love it here." She smiles at the teen, a hint of encouragement in her voice.
She could not personally believe it, but she does not expect herself talking to the young teen about the wonders of moving cities. Of course, it takes time and patience to get used to a lot of things, but she was never one to talk to someone about it, with full exception to Kaylie, as she is the only one Zory can turn to if she ever needs to talk. But here she is, in a cafe, telling the girl of how wonderful a new city life is and encouraging her to make new friends.
Her companion soon tells her that she is looking for someone, and at this she listens intently. In a large city like Lorsette, it's hard to find someone, especially if you are new. "Care to tell me about him?" She immediately asks; she is a TRS agent, after all, and it's her duty to help people that concerns others. The girl then introduces herself after that, even apologizing for her apparent rude behavior; Zoraya shakes her hand at this. "And no, no, it's fine! I myself did not think about introducing myself either, so we are both on the same page." She says with a small chuckle. "I'm Zoraya. Nice to meet you too, Akemi." She says, taking the girl's hand and shaking it back.
[attr="class","of_life"]Akemi smiled a bit at the introduction. At least they weren't entirely strangers anymore. Still, neither of them seemed to know that the other was a member of TRS, which wasn't surprising in any way given how new she still was to the area. "Well. I am looking for my brother. He's rumored to be here. We have never met, but I want to try and get to know my family if I can." That was as simple of an explanation as she could give at the time. It would have been much more complicated to explain the entirety of her family and why she was looking for her twin.
"All I was given was his name, but I have been able to do a bit of research into him and my father since learning of them." She turned her computer around a bit so the other person could see the picture of the boy that looked strikingly similar to her. But they were twins after all, so the similar appearance was to be expected. After a few moments she turned the screen back around and closed the lid, moving to slide her computer into her messenger bag on the floor beside her chair. "I don't expect too much luck in finding him, the city is kind of big and I haven't a clue where to start looking. But I know that he's here, so it's a start."
After a sip of coffee and a noise of approval, she turned her attention rather sheepishly to the girl across from her. "Sorry if that was rude of me." She gave a soft smile. "I suppose it is quite boring to hear."
a little reply for @akemi I'm sorry for this lateness!
The girl begins to explain her reasons for coming to Lorsette: to look for her brother, if Zoraya heard correctly. Finding a relative is quite difficult, especially if you've not known them for long, or have never even met them at all. Unfortunately, that seems to be the girl's case. "I understand. Finding a relative is quite hard, but I'm sure you'll get to meet them with enough clues to their whereabouts." Zoraya states; the idea of looking for a member of the family you haven't even met is quite a fascinating case, even though she hasn't experienced it herself.
Zoraya takes a look at the image of the boy once the computer was turned so she may see... indeed, he does look similar to her companion. "So this is your brother..." She mumbles, though soft enough so the girl may not be disturbed and continue explaining everything. Listening in, it's good that she has done research to find her brother. The boy seems familiar, though, but she could not pinpoint where she's seen him exactly... if she ever even did. There are so many black-haired men and boys in the city, but this one... this one in particular stands out.
Once the girl is done, she hums in acknowledgement and nods. "...Is it silly of me to say that I do find him familiar, or at least I saw him yesterday through that little corner of my eye?" She says with a chuckle. Then it's back to seriousness. "Granted, there are a lot of people with black hair, though he emits some sort of aura... I've seen him but I don't know him... agh, I'm being silly. I apologize." Zoraya waves a hand in the air in dismissal of her statements.
Zoraya smiles at Akemi, who apologizes because what she had said may be boring. "Oh no, not at all!" She leans in, twirling the spoon on her cup of coffee. "Have you asked around for his whereabouts? I don't think my testimonies from earlier were that useful to you. Maybe there are other people here who may know him. For all we know, he could be in school or in a group, or hidden in plain sight."
