Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
Lorsette's public library was quite a sight to behold. Where the outsides large stone exterior was impressive by itself. The real beauty laid inside it's cavernous walls. Upon entering the building ones senses were assaulted by a myriad of different things. From the slight dimness of the lights that made one unsure of the time. To the wafting smell of aged paper and oak that filled the building. The air sitting as stagnant as many of the different books filling the shelves. Shelves that seemed to continue on forever, winding their way into every corner of the building. It was enough for one to get lost in if they didn't know what way to go. Or at the very least, for someone to hide.
It had been several weeks sense the Assembly had attacked the TRS headquarters. An incident that had sent William to the hospital along with quite a few other TRS agents. Yet unlike the others, no one had shown up to retrieve the young man. And the next thing he knew he was standing outside the hospital, confused by the fact the rather nice woman had told him he was 'free to go'. Without a clue of what he was to do, he set out into the city. The first week going fine as he still had some of the allowance the TRS had given him. Spending his time rather comfortably as he had been informed by a stranger that there was a place called motel that he could stay at. And though it seemed a little dirty it was like paradise to the young blond. At least while it lasted. As the complementary breakfast and space to call his own came to an end along with most of his funds.
After that he had resorted to hanging around cafes, the warm air and smell of roasting coffee keeping him warm. Yet it didn't take long for that habit to drain him of the rest of his cash. And before long he was completely stranded. Pennyless and tired he had managed to stumble into the one place that was open early in the morning hours. Lorsette's public library. Dazed he wanted through row after row of books. Eyes scanning across the countless tomes, yet not really looking at them. Just going through the motions more than anything as he tried to kill time and think of some way out of his current predicament. Yet before he could think too hard he found his foot snagging on one of the many beanbags that littered the library. Sending the young man falling face first into a pile of fluff. He wanted to shout, yet couldn't manage much more than a soft groan as the fabric seemed to overtake him. Lulling the blond to sleep rather effortlessly.
At the sound of rustling nearby William's eyes slowly began to crack open. Unsure of what time it was, or how long he had been sleeping in the dark corner of the library. The only thing he was sure of at the moment was that he was no longer alone.
Kaylie looks on from the counter at the abundance of visitors and readers coming in and out of the library, and she smiles to herself as she puts another vase down beside the little plants on smaller vases (with care, as the last vase was broken accidentally by some Kurtis Westfield). She greets people from the counter and allows them to check-in for the day, and check-out if they want to exit. It's such a mundane, non-eventful day in the library... and Kaylie likes that.
[break][break]She's the one managing the library for now. Zoraya had been gone for quite a few days though she doesn't know why; she receives texts from her occasionally but they all don't answer her questions of where she is right now. Apparently the older woman is tending to some manners in the city and won't be back after a few days; though knowing Zory, she's probably lying, as she's also noted that such matters were nothing to be concerned about. Then, of course, some new librarian named Xander, though she can't tell if he's here right now.
[break][break]So she's goes about her day, tending to the readers, arranging the books either left behind on the table (which makes her angry with readers sometimes), or managing the check-ins. And making sure no more vases are broken; she can't have another fit about that, and neither can Zory.
[break][break]Time flies by faster than she would have hoped. The afternoon comes by quickly, and people reorganize themselves and leave the library, either with cheerful waves of goodbyes to the counter or simply indifference; they just walk out without talking. Sooner than not the library becomes silent as more and more people exit the library, until finally the building succumbs into the quiet. And Kaylie likes that.
[break][break]As she's tending to more books left behind by the people for her to arrange, in one of the far corners of the library, enveloped in darkness, she could see the outline of a figure seemingly... lying there. Normally she would have thought it to be Flurry or one of her growing kittens, but this figure was much bigger. Plus, the bookshelf she is tending to is near that specific corner. So she puts away the last of the disarranged books, and proceeds with caution to the lying figure.
[break][break]Just when she comes nearer to the figure does she realize what she had seen isn't a cat... but a person. "Hey," She calls out, with a rather threatening tone to her voice. This is the first she will see of people leaving themselves behind and sleeping in the library, which is more than wrong. And if they plan on breaking yet another vase... oh boy. Even in the darkness, she stares intently at the lying figure among the sacks of dust.
[break][break]"Are you standing up or not?"
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Hope you don't mind! ^v^ Also it's only right for the assistant head librarian to be out and about here, eh? X3
William wasn't the deepest sleeper by any means. All it usually took was a gentle noise to wake the young man. Yet he happened to be much more tired than he thought. The gentle caress of the bean bag carrying him into a deep slumber in no time. The occasional surveyor of books passed him by and yet he didn't budge. The quiet noises of chatter in the building doing little to rouse him as well. Yet slowly, one by one, the sounds began to disappear. Slowly at first, and then all at once. It wasn't the noise that woke him, rather the lack thereof.
He wasn't sure how long he had been sleeping, or even how he had managed to get so lost in the building. Yet as his eyes began to crack open and the musky air filled his lungs he began to realize his mistake. The place was empty. Slowly he lifted his head from the plush bag underneath himself. Sleep still heavy in his eyes as he glanced around. Only to hear a soft russle nearby. His head quickly snapped in the direction of the sound only to be met with a rather odd sight. As down one of the narrow corridors there was a feline, standing there staring him down. His brow raised at the sight of the creature. Curious as to how it had gotten here, though the cat seemed much more apprehensive to his presence.
Though before he could wonder about it any further there was a sudden voice behind him. Causing the small creature to scurry off. Yet as much as the noise had startled the cat it caused William even more alarm. His eyes suddenly grew wide as his confusion was replaced with panic. The young man struggling to get to his feet as the voice had commanded. Yet all he could manage to do was get himself Tangled in the large bag further. Arms and legs kicking about as he tried to free himself. Until finally, he somewhat managed to roll out of the thing. Landing on to the floor with a soft thump. With a slight grumble he pushed himself up off the floor. Embarrassed he had been caught sleeping in the first place. "S-sorry." He said, now finally able to get a look at the woman whom had called out to him. Her appearance not quite what he had expected. As she didn't seem much older than himself, possibly even the same age. "Are you lost too?" He said nervously. After all someone so young couldn't be in charge of somewhere so massive. Right?
The glare in her eyes is still there after that rather harsh approach of an introduction. But as the young man does get up -- or at least tries to, as he keeps tripping through the bean bags he was standing on -- her expression softens, and she wishes she didn't have to be hostile to him. Looking closer, as he can now be seen in the light, he looks young. And he doesn't look like he came here to do bad things. In all honesty, Kaylie thinks, he looks lost, and she isn't helping matters.
[break][break]She turns her head at the sound of little feet scurrying through the floor, and recognizes the cat to be Flurry -- ah, so she has come here in search of her kittens, she figures. The cat stops in front of the door and sits down, simply eyeing her and the young man; Flurry isn't so hostile, even to strangers. It makes her smile at the reminder, that maybe she had thought truly wrong of him and maybe he'd only come here to seek refuge. Kaylie wonders for a moment if he happens to be homeless, and somehow he thinks the library is safer than most.
[break][break]Kaylie is about to say something but he beats her to it, apologizing immediately, looking so shy. A small smile tugs at her lips as he asks her if she is lost, to her amusement. She doesn't question it. Usually people would stare at her in disbelief, simply thinking she doesn't look like the assistant librarian, though they get used to it eventually. "No, I'm not lost. I work here." She responds, all hostility in her voice gone. He's only just a lost boy, after all. "You seem like the one who is lost, though." She says, crossing her arms and tilting her head.
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]I'm so so sorry for this lateness!
Nervously William's stood there in front of the girl who had woken him up. The two standing in what almost seemed like a deafening silence of the library. Her appearance much less threatening than the shout she had given him before. Had he not been so startled he may have even found it slightly amusing. Yet he knew laughing in a situation like this was likely to only land him in more hot water. As there was always the chance her bite was worse than her bark. So he did the only thing he could think of after being caught, apologize. Followed immediately after by one of the dumbest questions he could have asked. 'Why would she be lost?! She found you didnt she?' William thought as he mentally kicked himself for not coming up with something better to say. Yet to his suprise the woman didn't seem upset, as a matter of fact she even cracked a soft smile.
"Work here? But you are so..." william let out a small grumble. As his mind was filled with images of old men with beards. Someone much more fitted to be in a stuffy room full of books, or so he thought. But he didnt have time to finish he thought. As the apparent librarian made a rather matter of fact statement toward the young blond. "Lost? No, no. I'm just.. well... come to think of it." He said, slowly raising a hand to scratch at his chin. His eyes glanced back and forth a few times, noticing only more books as he did so. And the dim lighting made it impossible to figure out how long he had been sleeping."What time is it? And where would the exit be located?" He sheepishly said, somewhat backtracking on his words from before.
Kaylie is amused by the fact that he seems to think she is lost as well, it almost makes her laugh; but she suppresses laughter and smiles instead, a small one, amusement still clearly present in her face. "Well? I'm so...?" She gestures with her hand so he may finish the sentence. "Well, I can't say I'm surprised. Usually people would tell me how I'm so young to be working in this library... as time went by I got used to what they thought of me." She adds, shaking her head as rather useless memories come flying by.
[break][break]It's true, she gone through so many questions and inquiries before, mostly consulted about her age and her work choice. Some are even skeptical enough to ask if she truly did work here, or if all of it is just a hoax to look important. She answers most of them, and constantly repeats herself. She gets used to it, and as days pass by and she is seen more and more in the library, people get used to her too. They stop asking questions of her identity, except in cases where people who have only moved did not know anyone.
[break][break]The young man denies he is lost soon after, into which she responds with a laugh. "Oh come on. Admit it, you're lost." She says, turning her head to the numerous shelves positioned like a maze in the large building. "It's fairly big in here, so of course it's understandable." The first time she'd worked here, she got lost, too, and almost did not make it back to the counter. It took Zoraya for her to actually get out of the mazes, until she got used to the place.
[break][break]He then asks her about the time and where the exit may be. She shrugs her shoulders and turns. "It's 5:56 in the afternoon, and you're going to need a guide to get out of here. That guide would be me." She responds, pointing a finger at herself in reference to the guide. "Now come on, you don't want to get lost again."
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]I'm so so sorry for this lateness! ;o;
As if it hadn't been obvious enough the blond was lost when he was discovered sleeping, it clearly was now as he spoke to the librarian. As he didn't even recognize the people that ran the place. Worse yet he assumed they were lost too. He let out a quiet grumble as the woman egged him on to finish his thought. Knowing that whatever answer he gave was clearly going to be wrong. So instead he opted to listen to her own explanation. Nodding as she finished. "Sorry, I had just assumed.." He said, slightly embarrassed.
Though he had tried to deny the fact that he was lost, the woman was having no part of it. Yet her rather chipper attitude made it much more barrable. "Ok,ok. Yes I have gotten a bit lost." He said, averting his gaze. He was surprised to hear how much time had passed. As he hadn't planned on taking an impromptu nap in the library. But it had happened anyways. He was happy to hear that he would have a guide out of the building. And yet he still couldn't help but be embarrassed being caught in the first place. So he just nodded in response. Making sure to not get lost behind her.
Yet before their journey could even start there was a bump in the road. A small, fluffy, and rather adorable one. The cat to be more precise. As William took a step toward the woman, the cat took a step toward him. Causing the blond to backpedal on response. "Uhm.. could you, retrieve this?" He said, pointing down toward the creature. Another step forward from the cat, and another back for William. He didn't find the thing intimidating by any means. At least not in the conventional sense. Rather, the teen often had a problem with most animals. Being that they were much less aware of personal space.
The blond young man assumes, like most people. She can't say he is to be blamed for this, if there is anything to blame him for at all; assumptions are a common occurrence and one has to get used to it, so long as they are not harmful. Kaylie simply nods at the young man, taking one look at his rather bashful face. How cute, she thinks. Reminds her of someone she loved, though who was she to compare two men who are most likely different from one another?
[break][break]Finally, after constant denial from a few moments ago, he finally admits to be lost. kaylie laughs heartily, maybe for the first time since their encounter. People can be so amusing, people that are unlike her, and she likes it. She's not one to tease, normally, but she can't help it at this rate. "It's good that you admit to your fate. It makes people have it easy when helping you." She states, with a small chuckle. After this, she says nothing more, and proceeds to lead him out of the maze of bookshelves.
[break][break]Kaylie does not realize that her cat is now following them, only after the blond points Flurry out. She turns her head and sees both reacting to each other's steps; Flurry taking one step towards him, with the blond taking a step back each time. She giggles as he asks if she could retrieve the cat, and so she approaches them to do so. As Flurry is picked up from the floor, body almost liquid, she purrs and snuggles close to her, her grey fur touching her neck.
[break][break]"This is Flurry," She introduces the cat, without even being prompted to do so. Flurry meows loudly in response, licking her paws while still in Kaylie's embrace. "You don't have to be afraid of her. She's a kind soul; rest assured, she won't hurt you." She adds, patting the cat's head.
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]I'm so so sorry for this lateness! ;o;
Another quiet grumble left the blonds lips as the woman chimed in. Seemingly rather pleased that he had admitted to his mistake. Though William could hardly see how getting lost was something to be cheerful about. After all he wouldn't have even ended up in this situation had the TRS not lost him. Yet he was pleased to at least have some assistance in his current predicament. Most people would have turned a blind eye, or perhaps even chastised him more. Yet the woman seemed peaceful, nice even. Even with her having shouted at him before.
But finding out her character would have to wait for the time being. As her small feline companion had drawn the entirety of his attention. The blond quietly stepped around the cat that seemed to think he was playing some sort of game. Until finally the white haired girl arrived, snatching the cat off its feet with one foul swoop. Seeing the crisis averted William let out a small sigh of relief. A small nervous smile crossing his lips as the woman explained the small creature. "Oh, no it isn't… I mean I'm not afraid of your flurry, it's just.." He paused for a moment, cocking his head slightly in thought. 'Ok, just stay calm. Just think..' "I Uhm.." 'What was it! What was that word..' "A-largies!" He blurted out rather abruptly. "That's it, I have al-arges." 'Smooth….'
Flurry did not seem to like being taken away from her game with the young man. She scratches her hand, even if just a little, and Kaylie does not flinch because she's gotten used to Flurry's whining. Her cat loves to complain a lot, like a spoiled child; anything the feline has favored that is taken away from her, she would surely throw a small fit. Kaylie and Zoraya both fall victim to such fits, be it scratches or loud meowing that sometimes drive the customers away.
[break][break]One of the very things Flurry has come to like is playing with the young man, and now that she had been taken away from his grasp, Flurry had begun scratching to tell her owner she still wants to play. But Kaylie remains unperturbed, even with the small scratches on her hand. Finally, after a short while, Flurry gives up, and resorts to staring at the young man to ease her boredom.
[break][break]Kaylie raises an eyebrow as the young man fumbles for words, trying to tell her why he does not want to be near her cat. But what comes out of his mouth is a mispronounced word, that almost cracks her face up a bit. She does know what he means, however, even with the rather broken word that his nervous mind seemed to make him say. "Allergies," She corrects him, chuckling a bit. She does not mean to offend, of course. "You mean allergies. Well that's understandable. I'll make sure you and Flurry do not cross paths."
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]I just want to say it: William is so cute you can't change my mind >///<
Seeing the creature contained, while unwelcome to the cat, was a point of relief for the blond. He always had to be cautious of such things. Always on edge of exposing his magic to the world. Even though the two were seemingly alone it was still not the best idea to be so laissez faire about such things.
He watched as the small creature started to grasp at the air in his direction. Seemingly struggling against his bonds for a moment, before slowly surrendering to the woman's grasp. It provoked a small chuckle from the teen. As if to say 'Not today' to the small furry creature. Soon after though, the woman chimed in. Quickly correcting his pronunciation with a small laugh of her own. It caused the blonds face to contort a little in embarrassment. His eyes darting toward one of the many bookshelves instead of the silver haired girl. 'Ok.. just play it smooth now.' "Ah! Yes, allergies. Those.. I have that." He said with a small nervous chuckle. Scratching the back of his head as he spoke.
It was an alibi, one that the TRS had told him to use in situations like these. Yet the blond had done little research into the word. In fact it was completely foreign to him as a whole. Being fae, and as such in tune so wholey with nature. Such a concept didn't even exist. To think that there was some sort of nature that he could have an adverse reaction to. It almost seemed silly. Yet he had used it anyways. Even though he had been in the musky building for some time, and even in the presence of the cat, he showed no signs of any sort of reaction. No puffy eyes, no sneezes. As a matter of fact, even after having been passed out face down in a library the blond almost seemed glowing. Making his claims much less believable.
"So Uhm.." William piped up as the two began moving once more. "What's it like, living with all of these books I mean. How does one even keep track of…" He said, waving a finger around toward the many shelves. "All of this?"
She will not say it out loud, but Kaylie does not truly believe the young man is allergic to cats. There were no reactions coming from him while Flurry was short distances away and playing with him. She would not think much of the matter, because it's truly no significance to her time if he does have an allergy or not, but she would like to think there must be something going on here. However, she does not know what it truly is, so she drops the question and simply carries Flurry away with her.
[break][break]Kaylie proceeds to lead the young man to the door. Bookshelves tower above their heads like large buildings confined in such a little city, and the smell of the library is musky and riddled with dust. However, Kaylie has gotten used to such a setting, having lived here for quite a long time. Flurry sneezes from time to time, moving a little bit, a sure sign that she wants to get out of Kaylie's grasp. Well, the cat has other things to worry about, like the kittens. But not now.
[break][break]It's silent for a moment, but only until the young man decides to ask a few questions. They were simple, really, and she could answer them just fine. "It's been good, I'll tell you that," She responds, setting Flurry on the table, where the cat goes on her way. "Keeping track of books is not so hard, now. It's an endless sea of pages and dust, but in the right time you'll get used to this kind of environment." She chuckles a bit. "Well, at least, that happened to me. I don't know what it would be like for the average person."
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Hhhhh I'm late again I'm so sorry
"Really now? You must be quite talented." He said with a smile. "I feel like it would take me hundreds of years to learn such a thing." As he finished he let out a soft chuckle. Eyes glancing upward toward the furthest reaches on the shelves.
"I suppose that wouldn't be too bad though." He mumbled somewhat quietly to himself. Not really realizing that he had been thinking out loud. A moment later and the blond had snapped out of his thoughts. Eyes drifting back down toward the woman. Yet once he laid eyes on her a sudden embarrassment overcame him. Through all of the chaos and bewilderment of being awoken from his slumber he had forgotten something very important. He hadn't even introduced himself. "It's William by the way… my name, that is." He said somewhat shyly. Still embarrassed he hadn't mentioned it earlier. Yet that was it, just a name. The blond didn't even make an attempt to try and shake her hand. Possibly because of the cat. But mostly because of his lack of gloves or any other method of protecting her from his abilities.
With each step down the corridor a small pattern began to appear. As the two walked William always seemed to be lagging just slightly behind. Always keeping a slight distance between the two of them. Though that kind of behavior was normal for himself. He had been told that some people found it slightly off-putting. Yet in his current situation he wasn't taking any risks. Not with the Flurry still around.
She smiles, hearing his response and compliment, a small chuckle escaping her lips. "Oh really now, it's not that hard." She tells him with a rather encouraging tone. Not that she though he would consider taking the job of librarian, but who knows. "I've spent maybe... about a year or so before I was appointed assistant librarian at 18." She's not too sure about this response, though. Time flies too quickly and she easily forgets, though she can't say the details are blurry. Her memory isn't that poor.
[break][break]Kaylie says nothing for a few moments, simply letting him drown in his own thoughts. By the time they're reached the second shelf of the fourth row of bookshelves, Flurry is already gone to fetch her kittens. It should be a safe space for the young man to be with her now. Kaylie reaches for a cloth just lying on one of the shelves -- the one she used to wash off the dust from a while ago -- and wipes her hands with it, ridding herself of all the fur that stuck to her dress. After that, she proceeds walking, keeping an eye on the young man behind her.
[break][break]Kaylie stops abruptly once she hears his introduction- but there is no shaking of hands or anything, just simply words and a kindly tone. The white-haired librarian blinks and doesn't say anything for the moment. But soon after, she smiles and shakes her head, turning to him. "Hello William. I haven't introduced myself yet as well, have I? My apologies." She reaches out a hand for him to shake- if he's not going to do it, she at least has enough courtesy to do so.
[break][break]"My name is Kaylie Silas." She continues with a smile, then winks. "And don't worry, feel free to shake my hand if you want to. I swear you won't get any allergies."
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Hhhhh I'm late again I'm so sorry
William couldn't help but find the woman's modesty impressive. With the copious volumes and novels filling the shelves he wouldn't even know where to start. Whether they were organized by color, size, genre, magical or non magical. The thought of trying to keep track of such a thing causing his head to spin slightly. Though, luckily, taking care of it wasn't his issue.
Just as he had begun to compose himself a small motion caught his eye. The cat once more tossing about within the woman's grasp. As he carefully eyed it he noticed it didn't seem to have any of its focus on himself. That fact only confirmed as the small creature kept from her arms and began to dart down the hallway past him. The cat, clearly driven toward some alternative goal. A part of him was still worried, especially now that the creature was free to sneak up on him again at any time. Yet he was much more relieved having the thing out of sight for the time being.
However, as he watched the cat William had failed to notice one thing. The woman had stopped walking almost immediately after he introduced himself. As his eyes glanced back upward he noticed he had closed the distance he had been maintaining between them. A small gasp escaped his lips. And as she began to spin around William did his best to backpedal. Almost falling over in the process. Now roughly three or so feet apart William looked forward finding himself face to face with the librarian.
A faint hue crossed his cheeks as he stood there, embarrassed he had almost stumbled into her unintentionally. Meanwhile she stood there with a warm expression, introducing herself and offering a hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, miss Kaylie." William said with a slightly nervous tone. His eyes drawn down toward the extended palm. "Oh.. I Uhm.." He began to say, before he was struck by a moment of inspiration. "One moment!" He said as he began rapidly tugging at his sleeve. Pulling the fabric down to cover his own hand. 'This should work' He thought to himself. He smiled softly toward the woman, reaching out to take her hand with his covered one.
And instantly he knew he had made a mistake. The fabric wasn't thick enough
William's face contorted slightly, almost like the look someone gets when they feel like a sneeze is coming. A small gasp escaped his lips once more, but this time, the contact was real. As their hands touched the air began to humm very quietly. Quickly William did his best to pull away. As he did so, the noise was replaced by a single loud pop. As a small golden jolt of energy arked between their hands. Filling the blank space with small wispy golden flakes that seemed to drift in and out of reality as they spun.
William felt his throat get dry, his eyes grow wide. As he felt every instinct in his body telling him to run. And yet, his legs wouldn't work. All he could do was stare forward, watching the scene before him.
