Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Saturday night. The height of nightlife in Lorsette. Even with the biting cold of the fall air people couldn't help but come out. The night still young. The trees adorned with lights. Filling the streets with a warm golden glow. Beckoning the townsfolk to come out and enjoy all the city had to offer. And like moths to a flame they came. Flocking into stores, and restaurants, and bars. All just to have a moment of joy. Something to fill that void if only for a moment.
And Kari was no different. He too had wants, desires. And being ordered around all the time by the assembly didn't add up with his needs. He knew venturing into the city was a risk. After all he had strict orders, stay low, report anything interesting, and wait for new orders. But above all traveling freely in the city without checking in was a no go. Even though he was a member of the assembly he hadn't been for long. Still coming out of a 'probationary' period required to test his loyalty. Not to mention the fact he was still a missing person. Yet as long as he wasn't caught, then no harm no foul right?
So he set off from the safe room he had been assigned to. A small apartment building on the west end of town. A place with barely more than a bed, and definitely no way to entertain oneself. And set out into the city. A place full of possibilty and excitement. His first stop of the night was to a small liquor store just a few blocks up the street. Having become familiar with the store owner it was easy for the young man to purchase a bottle, regardless of his age. And after having downed his beer around a nearby corner he set out again. Stopping only momentarily at a food truck on the side of the road. After a quick bite and another drink he began to feel rather pleased with himself. After all he had been so cautious up to this point and everything seemed normal so far. Better than ever even, as he didn't have anyone constantly breathing down his neck or barking orders at him.
After another few minutes of walking, and another stop or two for drinks. Kari found himself finally arriving at his destination. A new bar that had moved in downtown. A rather upscale looking place. Yet from what he was told the drinks were to die for. So without hesitation he stumbled inside, making his way through the doors with a small crowd as not to be seen. Though his presence in the place didn't go Unnoticed. As it didn't take long for the young man to reach the bar and cause a ruckus. "What do you mean no?! I just forgot my ID is all!" He shouted at the now rather annoyed looking bartender. "First off you're already drunk. Second you don't look old enough to be in here." The bartender said before waving down a security guard from the back. "The hell with that! Just give me my drink you fuc-" without warning Kari's rant was cut short by a sudden smack to the side of his head. The security guard sending the already inebriated man stumbling over, only to catch him before he hit the ground. Had he not been so drunk Kari wouldn't have thought twice about teaching the man a lession. Yet with his head spinning he couldn't even manage to do more than grunt as the man pulled him to the back door. As the exit swung open Kari felt the cool air smack his face, snapping him back into reality. Only to be flung forward into the empty alley. With a groan he picked himself up and proceeded toward the now closed door. Slamming his foot into the solid metal several times to get out his frustrations. "Fucking assholes..." He muttered, having half a mind to tear the door down and begin smashing up the place. Yet as he pondered he couldn't help but remember what his superiors had told him. Stay low. Report anything interesting. Await new orders.
Haku had been at home, giving out missions to his fellow dragons. Though it was safer to remain at home, he decided to leave Aria Village for a bit and head into Lorsette with the hopes of seeing something interesting. He hadn't bothered telling anybody else where he was going, it wasn't required since he was the Dragon King. He could have chosen to shift into his dragon form and fly, but instead chose to walk, figuring that it would be best to keep a low profile. If he wanted to go against the TRS head on, it would have been best to bring the others with him but since he went alone, it wouldn't be smart to draw attention to himself. Not that he liked the idea of having to bring others along but since he wanted to remain the Dragon King, acting smart would be required. Lorsette came into view and his walk continued, smirking slightly as he saw other AP out and about.
Thankfully the TRS weren't in sight, that wasn't to say scouts weren't around watching from a distance, but it would give him some time to escape so long as he caught them before they could report back. The longer he walked, the more he regretted the decision to come out here. Of course that thought had been pushed out of his mind when he had seen Kari being thrown out the back door. He paused, staring at him as he watched and waited to see what he would do next. There were quite a few people in AP that he knew, well sorta, he didn't spend a lot of time getting to know the others, sorta just being assigned with them to remember them. Other AP members were interesting at times, some appearing all for the cause while others didn't seem to know which side to be the correct one.
He was still debating on how he felt about Kari, but secretly looked forward to the day of seeing him betray because he knew that he would be a strong opponent. He remained silent as Kari had moved to kick the door, muttering something that was difficult to understand. He continued watching Kari before laughing, it was difficult to refrain when he found him so funny. Had I ever found him this funny before? Possibly, however if I had, I can't seem to remember. He thought to himself, not at all worried about Kari's reaction to his laughing. The only thing he cared about right at the moment was being entertained and it seemed, finding Kari out here had done just that. God.... I haven't laughed this much in ages.... He should do it again. He thought to himself, as he finally ceased laughing to watch Kari. It wasn't impossible but rare for anybody to see Haku laughing since most of the time he was so serious.
Slamming his foot into the door and mumbling profanities wasn't getting the young man anywhere. Though it did make him feel better. If only for a moment. Gritting his teeth he began pondering ways to get back at the establishment. Yet before his mind could run wild with mischievous thoughts he was stopped. Caught off guard by a noise from the other end of the alley. laughing to be more exact. Snarling slightly Karis frame swung to face the man with all of the grace of a ballerina slipping in the mud. Staggering himself as he took a few steps toward the noise. "You think this is funny?" He said drawing ever closer to the blurry figure. "Sounds to me like you're looking to get your ass kicked you..."
Now just a few feet away Kari lunged forward. His hand darting toward the other males collar, grabbing a hold of his jacket. "Alright you, you..." He began to speak to the blurry outline. Yet having gotten closer things began to come into more detail. As he looked up at the man the vibrant Pink hair seemed oddly familiar. And then it dawned on the young man whom he was looking at. "Shii.." He began to mutter, slowly pulling his hand away from the man's collar. "H-hey there haki, hoku, hummus... What uhm.. brings you around here?"
Haku watched as Kari had slammed his foot into the door, laughing all the while. He remained in his spot as he watched Kari staggering in his direction? Did he care that he might be upset? Nope, did he care that Kari might want revenge, defiantly not? Would he allow him to take action? Possibly, but only time would tell what exactly he planned on doing and right now he was curious on what the hell Kari planned on doing about it. He was silent as Kari asked his question before threatening him. It didn't matter if he was drunk, right at the moment he wasn't interested in attacking him, besides it would be stupid to attack another AP member on purpose, it would be viewed as betrayal.
Kari had lunged forward, reaching for his collar, meanwhile he stood there and just took it, smug grin on his face all the while. It was difficult to avoid laughing, so he didn't even bother as this amused him greatly. Kari's face expression was priceless as he heard him start to swear, most likely coming to realize just exactly who he was talking to or at the very least the fact he was also AP. Kari had released his collar and he ceased his laughing once more. "Kari." He greeted, not at all bothered by Kari adding what appeared to be extra nicknames. "Looking for something entertaining. I believe I found it." He answered, giving an honest answer for Kari being that entertainment.
"Weren't you about to get revenge for them kicking you out without giving you something?" He questioned, surprised that Kari had given up just like that. "Don't tell me I'll have to show you how it is done?" He questioned, not being serious, but then again it was difficult to tell since it wasn't often for him to tease another person. What could he say, when he found somebody amusing it was difficult to resist the temptation.
Kari couldn't help but feign a smile as he stepped back from the man whom just moments earlier he was planning on smashing to a pulp. His expression warm, as if greeting an old friend. But inside he felt anything but joy to see the man. He didn't know Haku well, his short time with the assembly meaning he hadn't really interacted with other members. Yet he was aware of the fact that the guy standing before him was also a member, and likely a more trusted one than himself.
As Haku began talking Kari could feel his nerves bubbling up. His drunken gaze settling on the man. Unsure if he was here for business, or pleasure. Yet as he continued it started to become clear that it was the ladder of the two. 'Entertainment? Wait.... Can skeletons even get drunk?' He thought to himself, chuckling slightly at the idea. Yet before he had time to ponder the idea any further Haku continued talking. This time steering the conversation toward Karis sudden ejection from the bar.
With a small laugh he glanced back over toward the door. "Oh that? No, nononono.." He said raising his hands in front of himself. All the while coyly putting on an innocent expression. "That was just a misunderstanding is all. I was just, err.. investigating. Taking care of my mission and whatnot. ya know? Looking for anything interesting." Taking a slight step back Kari began to glance around absently at the alley for a few moments before turning back toward Haku. "And wouldn't you know it, nothing here."
He shrugged softly, moving closer to the pink haired man once more. However this time as he reached up he only did so to adjust the man's shirt that he had scuffed before. Giving his collar a soft tug before attempting to scoot his way past the man. "Well anyways I should probably be going, nice seeing you and all, great catching up."
Haku couldn't help but grin back at Kari when he saw him smiling at him. He looked at Kari curiously when he saw him chuckling, unsure on what he had said, however, it seemed that Kari might have been game for entertaining him for tonight or at the very least it had been a hope. He further mentioned how Kari had been kicked out of the club, amused when Kari had glanced back towards the door before raising his hands in front of himself. "Oh?" He asked, chuckling as he listened to Kari claim otherwise, clearly he hadn't realized how much he had seen, oh well. "Well damn.... I was really looking forward to seeing you kick that door in..." He mumbled, still having a smug grin on his face as he attempted to dare Kari to do it.
By no means was he giving an order, just a friendly suggestion that he viewed as an amusing sight. "Ohhh come now Kari, I'm here." He teased playfully before adding, "Well I guess if you didn't find anything interesting, you didn't find anything interesting." He answered, knowing that Kari was trying to play it off as business when he frankly knew it was likely pleasure. Kari had moved closer to him, reaching out to adjust his shirt. He allowed him to do so, not at all worried about the possible consequences in allowing Kari to get too close to him. What could he say, if there was the slightest chance of consequences he believed himself ready to handle them. Besides, it was rare for AP to attack each other else it would be viewed as them being a traitor. Shortly after his collar was adjusted, Kari had moved to pass by him.
"I bet I could find something you missed." He called back out to Kari, teasing about the alcohol again. "Oh shoot, you claimed you took care of it, didn't you? Well then I suppose you won't mind me going in to finishing up for you, you know? In case you missed something, or somebody..." He answered, clearly trying to tease Kari. Oh yeah, he knew about how he wanted a drink and was drunk, it was coming from his breath. "Care to see what I come up with?" He asked in his attempt to invite Kari to follow him inside, that is if he didn't mind following the big bad Dragon King.
Seeing Haku smile back at him sent a shiver down Kari's spine. Though he never dropped his facade for a moment. Not willing to give the man the satisfaction of knowing how uncomfortable his appearance made the Raven haired male. He was sure the alchohol at least was partially to blame for his nerves being on edge. Yet it was the mystery of the males appearance more than anything that seemed to get to him. Often his experiences with other assembly members was brief, a quick exchange of words. Perhaps an escort from one location to another. but from his short time with the group he had managed to learn one thing. Every single one of them was crazy as hell, at least in one way or another. Like a box full of mismatched puzzle pieces. Some of them devoted to the cause, some for their own reasons, and those that just cared for the bloodshed. Hardly a place for someone like himself. Though that wasn't to say he was innocent or anything. He just didn't really care for all of their problems.
When Haku finally replied Kari still felt cautious. At least pleased that the man had bought his excuse, or perhaps was at the least playing along for the time being. "Come now, you think I would make a fuss like that?" He said in response to kicking in the door. "Besides, it's not like I couldn't. Just trying to stick to orders is all." He said with a slight salute before he moved forward toward Haku. Taking a few moments to correct his shirt and collar in a rather sloppy manner. The alcohol causing him to be much less dexterous than usual.
As soon as he had finished he gave the man a soft Pat on the shoulder. And began to squeeze by him. Acting as nonchalant as possible while trying to remove himself from the situation. Yet not two seconds and a few steps later Kari heard the man call out behind him. Causing the young man's brow to scrunch up. He kept his back to the man as he spoke, becoming more tense by the moment before finally addressing him. "Oh come on now hotu." He said spinning around. "Isn't something like this below you? I mean you must have much more important business to get to than checking up on a small fry like me…" He said with a nervous chuckle. Realizing that it was going to be much harder than he thought to get rid of the man.
Haku couldn't help but continue to grin at Kari. "Do you really want me to answer that question?" He asked, clearly teasing Kari in return. "That is a good boy, too bad though I would have enjoyed seeing a good kick in." He answered in return, imagining it in his head before chuckling slightly. Kari seemed determined as ever to leave and he couldn't help but feel a desire in trying to encourage Kari to linger, even if it wasn't much longer. He made his comment, pleased when Kari had stopped in his tracks. His grin widened when Kari called him the wrong name before spinning around to face him. "Perhaps so, however I'm free at the moment, so why the hell not?" He answered in return, "Unless there is something you don't want me seeing? More reason to find out for myself, hmm?" He teased, quite pleased with the fact Kari was still here.
God he was so easy to tease, he wasn't sure why exactly he was enjoying it as much as he currently was, but this was the entertainment he was searching for and he'd be damned if he lost it so soon. "Of course if you plan on sticking around after all, you could always join me in going inside?" He answered, an invite if you will. It wasn't like anybody inside could stop him from going inside and if Kari really badly wanted more to drink, he might as well assist him, right? "Unless you had already finished your business in here?" He asked, not believing such a thing since he knew that Kari was drunk, having seen to many people to know the appearance of one upon seeing them by action.
Kari couldn't help but feel uncomfortable with the man's constant teasing. Edging just on the border of being threatening. As it was clear that Haku was trying to pass off the situation being as playful as possible. Much like Kari himself. Yet the Raven haired male couldn't help but feel that his superior had some other reason for showing up. Though it couldn't have been due to Karis absence from the safehouse. After all he had only been gone such a short time that he was certain no one had reported it yet. The second option being that perhaps the man was keeping tabs on him. After all he hadn't exactly proven himself to be loyal to the cause yet. Or the third option being that just maybe it was coincidence they had crossed paths. A very unfortunate coincidence.
As Haku continued to tease him, even going as far to call him a good boy. Kari felt himself shaking slightly with anger. His knuckles on one hand turning white as his fist clenched shut. 'Easy Kari.. not like you can even hit him, just let it go...' He thought to himself. Letting out a soft sigh and turning to face the man immediately after. "Me? Hide something?" He said placing a hand to his chest and letting out a small gasp. "Would I do something like that to you hockey? Nonono." Straightening his posture he started to glance off aimlessly for a moment, seemingly lost in thought at the last part of what Haku had said.
On the one hand the man standing before him was a potentially crazy skeletal dragon, loyal to an organization hell-bent on causing chaos. And on the other, he had essentially offered him another drink. In most situations Kari would have carefully considered his options. Weighed the positive with the negative so to speak. Yet the alchohol coursing through his blood made the promise of another shot just that much more enticing. A slight grumble escaped the young man's lips as his eyes finally drifted back toward the man. The corners of his mouth twisting slightly as he looked at him. "Hey if you're paying man." He said with a shrug.
Haku couldn't help but feel amused the longer he got to chat with Kari, there was just something about this guy that was entertaining but he just couldn't put his finger on it. He watched as Kari had turned towards him, placing his hand against his chest before gasping. "Only one way to find out." He teased in return, still having a smug grin on his face as he teased Kari some more. He asked his question, noticing Kari glance away. Oh how this boy was amusing. He thought to himself, glad that he had stuck around even though he could have left any time he had chosen. He chuckled when he heard Kari's grumble, watching when Kari looked back towards him. The corner of his mouth twisting slightly. "Did I say I'd pay?" He asked, lifting a finger to his mouth as he appeared to debate on it.
"Sure why not, it sounds like fun." He answered, lowering his hand to look back towards Kari. I believe him to be drunk already, so if he drinks anymore I bet he'll be even more entertaining. He thought to himself before turning away from Kari. "Coming?" He asked before walking towards the front, seeing no point in going through the back, on no, they'd need a grand entrance and he'd gladly give them one. Slowly he'd reach out to open the door before slipping inside, waiting for Kari if he planned to join them after all. It wasn't a secret on who he was and he was counting on it becoming a problem. Of course if these people were on good behavior, he saw no reason to punish them right this second.
In any other situation it wouldn't have taken Kari two seconds to tell the guy to go kick rocks. Or perhaps even rough him up a little bit. Yet both options were off the table for the time being. Partially because of the fact the man was his superior. But mostly because he had already been caught in a compromising position. Though he did feel confident enough he could probably take the guy, likely due to the alchohol. Yet he wasn't drunk enough to cause that kind of trouble for himself. So instead he tried to play it off, acting as buddy buddy as possible with the man for the time being. Even if it was just an act.
The two continued to exchange playful banter for a few more moments. All the while Kari couldn't help but feel suffocated by the pressure of the situation. 'The hell is he acting so friendly for...' He wondered to himself, looking the male up and down for a few moments. Until Haku made a comment on whom would pay for the drinks. A grin crossed Karis lips as he finally had an opening, some sort of chance to slither away. 'No cash eh bud? oh well. Real shame. Maybe next time.' Yet before the idea could even cross his lips Haku seemed to snap out of a brief moment of thought as well. And surprisingly agreed to the young man's offer. Shooting down Kari's plan before it even got off the ground.
Stunned Kari stood there for a few moments. His mouth slightly agape as he began to realize what he was getting into. He let out a slight nervous grumble, watching as Haku turned away and began to walk toward the front. If he had any chances left to run, now was it. And yet his feet carried him slowly after the man. Unsure whether or not this whole thing was some sort of set up.
It didn't take them long to reach the front of the building. The two waltzing up to the door before Haku pried it open. A fake smile crossed Karis lips as he felt like he was being shoved inside. His feet almost moving on their own as Haku ushered them in.
Haku couldn't help but feel pleased that Kari had decided to join him anyway. Seeing as it meant he would end up having to pay for drinks, it seemed only fitting to not give anybody else an easy time. Eyes were set on them as he strolled towards the front to buy a drink. The bartender seemed to hold fear on his face as he asked what he'd like to drink. He gladly gave his order before telling the bartender that his friend could have any drink he wanted. He was quick to notice the security guard int he corner of the room. Everybody seemed uneasy, but they knew not to act out when the Dragon King was in town, least they would risk losing their brand new bar. It was thrilling to see the fear plastered on their faces. Of course he was expecting somebody to stand up to him.
So far nobody would come forth. If that is how everybody feels, I guess I'll have to wait for new guests to show up. He thought to himself as the drink was placed before him. He reached out, grabbing the glass before bringing it to his lips for a drink. The drink tasted so good, though he couldn't help but glance over at Kari to see how he was doing. So far the security guard chose to stay in his spot, most likely because he knew the dangers of becoming too close to him.
As the two stepped into the building Kari felt the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. He couldn't help but feel nervous stepping back into the bar he had been thrown out of just moments prior. He could feel the eyes of the crowd piercing into him. And yet, no one came near. No one even made an attempt to stop the two as they made their way through the crowd. Stepping up to the bar at the far end Haku proceeded to order a drink before offering one for himself. And as Karis eyes met the bartenders own he noticed the look of fear the man had. Not only because Haku had wandered in. But because Kari had returned with him. "Tequila.." He said before glancing away from the spooked man. In most situations Kari would have been over the moon to see the man realizing his mistake. Yet he couldn't help but feel like the situation had soured a bit. As he did enjoy getting his way. Yet he wasn't very happy with the group knowing he was affiliated with the assembly.
He let out a slight grumble at the thought. The shot of liquor suddenly being placed in front of him. He eyed the small glass for a moment before snatching it off the counter. He raised it to his lips and instantly downed the foul liquid. The sour burning taste causing his face to contort. He slammed the shot back down on the counter and gave the man a small wave signaling another before turning toward the man whom had brought him here. "So tell me..." He said picking up the second shot. "Why are you really out here? No way someone like you is out for 'entertainment' as you so put it." He said eying the man cautiously.
Haku couldn't help but feel pleased when Kari had followed him inside, all because he couldn't decline the drinks he had been dared to buy. He couldn't help but chuckle when the bartender was forced to give them service despite his plan on paying and the fact Kari also seemed a bit on edge himself. Silence seemed to come between them as they both enjoyed their drinks. Kari slammed his glass on the counter as soon as he was finished before waving him down for another drink. Meanwhile, he drank his nice and slowly as means of savoring it longer. Kari asked his question and he found himself peeking in his direction briefly before looking away once more. "I came for entertainment and I got what I wanted." He answered, finishing his drink before ordering another one. "Everything is as I want it to be." He added, taking the new glass in his hand before drinking it.
Though he knew Kari was likely uncomfortable being around him, he couldn't bring himself to care. Just because they were together, didn't mean they were together, there was a high chance that he happened upon Kari and helped him out since it meant becoming possible drinking buddies. "We should do this again sometime." He added, quite pleased with this outcome. It didn't matter to him that Kari was possibly uncomfortable, or the fact everybody else in here was. All he cared about was having entertainment and having a drink or a few was a plus.
As the second shot slid across the counter Kari almost instantly snatched it up. The small glass container fitting nicely in his hand as he swirled the liquid inside. He tried his best to keep his gaze toward the crowd. The people slowly begining to go back to their own business. Although he occasionally stole a glance toward his companion. Still unsure of what to make of the man. He didn't look that old, perhaps even just a few more years than himself. Yet he knew better than to assume that was his true age. As he had been informed the man had been an assembly member for some time. Which unless he joined as a baby, meant he had to be much older than he looked. Not to mention the sort of swagger the guy had. Walking around like he owned the place. A bravado that Kari actually found himself envious of for a moment. Yet he tried not to dwell on the thought too long. Instead finally turning to question Haku on his real motives. But the response he got was anything but from what he expected. And even if Haku had been lying, Kari totally bought it. "Wait.. so let me get this straight." He said downing his shot once more in a quick motion. "This doesn't have to do with me drinking? Or leaving my post, or anything?" The Raven haired male let out a slight chuckle. One hand slapping against the bar. "Jeez hobby you had me worried there for a minute. But it turns out you're just like me." He said with a laugh, the alchohol definitely loosening him up at this point.
Yet the next words out of Haku's mouth supposed Kari even more than his first statement. Causing the young mans head to spin back toward his superior. "Do this again? Like a date or something? Listen bud you're barking up the wrong tree."[/url] As he finished speaking he turned around once more to face the bar. Casually waving down the bartender for another shot as he did so.
