Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
The sound of rain echoed all around his shrouded form, lightning flashing across the otherwise black and gray sky. The corridor flickered and glitched beyond his steely gray eyes; memories of a distant past. [break]
Madness. Cold. Death.
[break] The cloud of white fog that exited his mouth upon heavy exhale, was it real? What of the chill in his bones, the numb tingling of his body as he trudged down the dark alleyway, one hand outstretched, pale flesh of his palm pressed into the brick lining that made up the wall. Shadows danced in the lightning, flashes of yellow against the red brick, sounds of war reverberating within his skull. [break][break] The stench of blood clung to his broad-shouldered form, a wound oozing at his left side, staining fabric crimson. A man’s gray-shrouded face, contorted and hideous, flashed within the eye of his mind, an inferno burning from both hands, hot and melting, and unleashed unto him. [break][break] Desmond gritted his teeth and hovered against the wall, the rain showering down over his withered form, as he brought a hand forward to grip at his face. What was real? [break][break]
[attr="class","tctext"] The creepy smile was the first thing Charlotte noticed as she approached; the smell, however, came second. She couldn't describe it. Charlotte had only smelled this sort of scent before once, when she was younger... When she was with her -... Her father... This was when her stomach started to tingle, when all of her senses told her to run. Regrettably she didn't... She could still feel those violent hands squeeze her wrists as they dragged her forward. Still feel the fear that raced through her body like acid as she watched the man's eyes roll in the back of his head. Charlotte could still hear the scream of terror echo through the tiny café like a tidal wave. It sounded so foreign, as if someone else had screamed for her; but Charlotte knew it was her own voice that made the piercing cry. He held on so tightly that her skin started to change colour... It hurt so much, yet she felt defenseless as he dragged her down, forcing her to lower her ear to his filthy mouth. His words were slurred and his clumsy tongue spat his sickening saliva down the side of her face. Charlotte wanted to vomit.. Not only because of the pungent smell or the revolting actions of the man, no. The main reason as to why she felt sick, was because of the fear that strangled her. Fear that hasn't left her, even as she turned the key and locked the café doors.[break][break]
The memory of tonight's event lingered in her mind all night. Her boss had offered to send her home early after the situation, but they were already short staffed... They wouldn't have called her in that afternoon had they not needed her as badly as they did. So Charlotte refused. Even though every bone in her body screamed for the safety of her apartment room and the comforting feeling of her fluffy blankets; she smiled at her boss as best she could, "I'm okay. Just give me a few minutes and I'll get back to work." The relief on his face was disappointing as much as it was satisfying to see. It made her happy to know he needed her, but in a way, it made her feel alone. Charlotte sighed quietly to herself, closing her eyes if only to collect herself again. [break][break]
"You're almost home." She whispered to herself, allowing for that gentle sense of calm to wash over her as it normally does; but this time, it never came. Trying her best not to panic, Charlotte took in a deep breath and opened her eyes. "Come on! Keep it together!" She said more loudly, hoping that it might help bring some sort of reassurance. It didn't. Frustrated, Charlotte turned around and faced the horrifying sight that was rainy weather. Not only was it raining outside, but the loud striking noise of thunder could be heard all around Lorsette. Out of all the nights she could've been asked to come in, tonight had to be the night.. Although Charlotte wasn't specifically frightened of thunder, the noise was what sent chills down her spine. Are me going to stand here all night? Or are we going home. Her grumbling partner chimed in with a dissatisfied, yet bored voice. As if in answer, Charlotte opened her umbrella and raised it above her head. [break][break]
The walk wasn't particularly bad in Charlotte's opinion; aside from the constant paranoia, obviously. In fact, it went relatively well until a flash of lightning illuminated a corridor as Charlotte passed. It was only for a second, but she manage to catch glimpse of a dark figure within that corridor out of the corner of her eye. Charlotte stopped in her tracks, only a couple of feet ahead of the alleyway. She wanted to run away - could feel the itching feeling in her legs screaming to flee. But she could not move. She was paralyzed in place out of fear. Hes here! Thoughts of the man flooded her mind. He's found me! I-I -- Then why isn't he trying to grab you? The bored voice interrupted once more. You really are a stupid girl. Shocked by the answer, Charlotte hesitantly glanced over her shoulder. No one was there. B-But, I-I thought he was --- Exactly, you THOUGHT. Do you even know if what you saw, was real? Charlotte was starting to get a headache from the conversation that raddled in her head, yet the question lingered in the air for a bit. Was it real?[break][break]
Curious and scared, Charlotte inched towards the corridor. "H-Hello?" She called out into the darkness ahead of her, hoping no one would answer. She clung to her umbrella's stem as she looked around the corner and into the dark alley. "Is anyone here?" she whispered, frightened that a louder voice might actually alert whatever could be lurking within. Her eyes scanned the perimeter only to find what she feared; a person leaning against a building. Her knuckles started to turn white from how tightly she squeezed her umbrella's handle. Charlotte could even feel the sweat oozing out of her pores, soaking her clothing with a horrible smell. But aside from the fear she felt, the person looked... hurt? maybe even injured? She couldn't really tell from where she was standing, but the way their whole body leaned against the building and their hand clung to their head brought Charlotte to the conclusion that something was wrong. [break][break]
Swallowing her fear, Charlotte inched a foot closer to the person; but remained close to the exit in case anything were to happen. "H-hey." Her voice trembled, "A-Are you okay?"
Fear slowly rolled over the glistening cobblestone of the tight alleyway, like a thick smog it consumed the entirety of the floor. Lightning flashed across the sky, lighting his shadowed form, silver eyes gleaming in the moonlight, reflections of the smog moving within the depths of his irises. His broad-framed form visibly stiffened, and in a slow and fluid movement he turned, head craning over his shoulder to gaze down the alleyway where the figure of a lithe girl stood. The fear poured from her and filled the corridor in its sweltering darkness, while he was the reaper to which drew the substance unto himself. [break][break] It filled his body, swarming over the exterior of his clothing as it scaled his form, transforming into a pustulous black ooze to be consumed by his rotting corpse. Desmond’s head rose, his features stiffening into granite as he felt the deep pulsing beat of his black heart. [break][break]
Loathsome creature.
[break] Sustenance, but it could not feed his soul. Reality hitched, distorting, color offsetting, a blackness rising from the lithe female’s shoulders to extend upward, and then half of his vision was engulfed in a blinding white light. He visibly flinched, pushing back against the brick-lain wall, hand outstretched, to balance against the offset. [break][break] “... Leave me…,” His voice cracked, ancient, guttural and unused. [break][break]
[attr="class","tctext"] Her skin prickled as she watched the 'thing' turn towards her in a slow; almost unnatural, motion. The way its head rotated to look over its body was absolutely horrifying, especially when their silver eyes glowed from the flash of light that hit the corridor. Within the moments flash, Charlotte managed to get a better glimpse of the figure in the hall, only to notice how male and human-like the figured was. Even upon discovering this information, Charlotte did not budge from her stationed position. A man.. memories from earlier flooded her frightened mind. N-Not him right? Though, the long raven black hair and silvery eyes had already answered her question, a tingling feeling in her gut prevented her from moving forward.[break][break]
As the light diminished and completely faded into nothingness, the once human-looking man returned back to the black figured from before. It became difficult to see down the dark alley way, even with the few street lights that illuminated a small part of the entrance. But Charlotte continued to look down the corridor, even straining her eyes if only to understand more of the situation this homeless person was in. Was he hurt? She couldn't really tell from his clothing or from the rain, but the way he leaned against the building as if needing some sort support, suggested it was likely. Clearly, he needed some kind of shelter as well, or was at least looking for one. There couldn't have been a better explanation as to why someone homeless would wonder uptown - especially in weather like tonight - if not to find somewhere to sleep. But Charlotte couldn't put her feet into action. The fear that oozed of her was like ice; it froze her to the ground.[break][break]
“... Leave me…,”[break][break]
His voice; in Charlotte's opinion, was.. unique in a very old way. She couldn't quite explain it, but she also didn't pay to much attention to the details. In fact, Charlotte was more concerned about the way he spoke over how his voice sounded. It was almost like he was sick. He probably gotten sick from the rain. Charlotte thought, her nerves steeling a bit. She didn't like the idea of leaving a helpless person on the streets in weather such as this, even if they demanded it. With all her might, Charlotte crept her way closer to the moving figured. Praying to her holy god that he might protect her if anything were to go wrong. Ahh~! purred the voice in her mind. We finally decided to confront the person have we? A chuckle echoed mockingly. Pathetic. Charlotte tried to ignore her, but to no avail, a chill still seeped into Charlotte's innocent heart. [break][break]
"I-Its really cold, Sir." Charlotte started as she slowly approached the man, his features gradually coming into view. "Y-You're soaked.. W-Why don't w-we go somewhere dry?"
Wretched fear oozed from the pores of the female haloed in light, like blood as black as sin. The sky, once dark and shadowed, came alight as lightning sparked across the heavens; a flash of chaos as it billowed through the clouds and rain in a web of veins. The silver of the moon reflected within Desmond’s irises as they watched, unmoving, as the lithe figure of the child crept ever closer. Ever looming. [break][break] The ground became a house for her fears and soon they were swimming in the black liquid. However, light continued to shine through the cracks of her porcelain skin. The blue of her dress became moonlight, shimmering and billowing around her form like waves crashing to the shore. The man’s gaze lulled as his body continued to devour her dreadful emotion. [break][break]
Sickening creature; look to the light.
[break] “Y-You’re soaked… W-Why don’t w-we go somewhere dry?” Her words became distorted in pitch and sound. Desmond’s head craned upward to peer at the sky overhead, to the rain which thickly poured downward to join the pool of fear and sorrow that had risen to wade at his waist. [break][break] What had he…? Pain exploded within his skull, the thought disintegrated. The man’s body lurched forward, pressing to the brick wall, as heat seared and scorched his skin. Between the space of his jackets sleeve and the leather of his gloves an intense blue light glowed over his skin, its mark faintly seen through the soaked fabric of his coat. A low and gruff breath of pain forced its way from his throat as one hand rose to grip tightly at the inferno that had begun to melt his mind. His other arm quaked by his side, fingers stiffening inward onto themselves as the curse of the blue light slowly crept further up the expanse of his arm.
[attr="class","tctext"] An intense blue light illumined inside the corridor, allowing Charlotte to once more see the figure down the narrow hallway. The light created a beautiful blue filter over the red brick wall, making it shine a soft lilac. To Charlotte, it would have been mesmerizing, if not for the fact the light was illuminating from the cracks of the stranger's sleeves, and from underneath his gloves. She would have stared at the sparkling lights off the wall for hours, admiring it as an onlooker. But she couldn't. Not after she heard the quiet pained noise echo into the returned silent night.[break][break]
Her legs moved on their own as she ran to the man's aid, her fear increasing with each forward step. Charlotte could feel her demon crawling inside her, growing stronger from her terror. Not scared anymore Darlin'? Or is your miserable need to save 'The Broken' overpowering your common sense? Charlotte tried to ignore her, but her voice was so loud. It rang in her ears, blocking out the sounds of reality. Quiet Vanessa! Please! Charlotte cried, desperate for control over The Devil. You can't block me out Charlotte. Face it, I'm coming for you. Her headache grew more agonizing. She could feel the pulsing pain of Vanessa pushing against her barriers. Please.. Stop! She begged, praying that her monster had some mercy still left in her. Tick tock Charlotte. Tick.. Tock..[break][break]
Charlotte finally reached the man that braced himself against the building. Only a couple of seconds had passed during this time; couple of seconds that felt like years. He was evidently in pain. The way his hand clenched his head, and the pained expression he wore was enough for Charlotte to act. "Sir! What's wrong!?" Charlotte had not meant to shout at the man; especially when she was only a couple of feet away from him. But she could barely hear herself over the constant chattering voice that teased her in her mind. Tick.. Tock.. It was becoming too much to bare... But Charlotte pressed on, persistent at hold her bay. [break][break]
The pain which seared upward, through his fingertips, and into his wrist was nothing in comparison to the inferno that blazed in his mind. Hot tears accumulated along his lower eyelids, seemingly frozen and crystallized, as the intensity of his silver gaze stared unblinkingly ahead. A tremor moved through his broad form, left arm quaking as the black curse devoured more of his flesh, burning liquid blue sapphire through the cracks. [break][break] “Sir! What’s wrong?!” The female’s voice pierced through the madness and agony that gripped him. Loud and reverberating, though it did not bring pain. His ghostly pale complexion turned to face her, eyes enlarged and haunted, teardrops frozen against his eyelashes. The sea of fear ever rose, waves of inky black washing over her chin, her mouth consumed within. She stared at him, terror stricken, and Desmond’s world began to glitch once more. Reality spiraled and melted together, his world entering through the girl’s piercing blue eyes. He was engulfed in total blackness, until white stars puncturing through the sheet of black. [break][break] “Where does it hurt!?” The feminine voice echoed from a distance. Begging and weeping. “Let me help you!” [break][break] A woman's sob echoed from within the blackness, heart-wrenching. Black and white visions, like projections, flashed in the darkest corners for the merest fraction of seconds; a woman folded in on herself, huddled close to the ground, her body wracked with the wretched agony of total ruin. [break][break] Desmond reached for her, extending his right arm, fingers trembling. But that contact which filled his hand was of someone else. The darkness was sucked away, whizzing passed him in a chaotic vortex, until he was blinded by the light that remained. White encompassed everything, pain searing his eyes, until it ebbed at the edges of his vision, and slowly began to fade. The world became coherent once again, his hand having reached out to grasp onto the female before him. His fingers clutched tight against her delicate wrist, gaze struck in a momentarily paralyzed horror. [break][break] Desmond blinked and came to. A heartbeat passed and his gaze riveted downward. As if her skin had scorched him, he released his hold of her. Air filled his lungs, the breath crisp and smelled deeply of the rain that still showered around them. [break][break] “I…,” He attempted to speak but his voice trailed off to be replaced by the rain. Instead, he stared down at his left hand, palm raised, and remained silent as the rain washed over his pale skin. The glow had dissipated and nothing remained but the black scarring of the curse. His silver gaze returned to the girl, searching over her petite form for a brief moment. “I… apologize for scaring you.” When he spoke, his words came slow, his voice harsh and unused. His steel gaze didn't remain on her long, as he lifted his head to glance around the dark alleyway, his posture rigid and his gaze narrowed with distrust.
