Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer has finally arrived and with the warmer weather; brought by the sunny season, Charlotte had decide to take a stroll through the city of Lorsette. It was busier than usual because of the celebration for pride month. Crowds were swarming the street, a loud murmur buzzing through the city could be heard throughout the coastal area of Lorsette; and what a sight it was to see. Off to the left of the wide open sidewalks was The Atlantic Ocean. Its rich water glistened under the sun's rays of sunlight, while fishing boats bobbed against the smallish waves of the ocean. Without the wind, The Atlantic Ocean almost seemed still to Charlotte from where she stood by the railing that leaded off to the side of the streets.
She leaned further into the pole, her arms crossed over the top of it, while she gazed at the beach off into the distance. Deep down, Charlotte quietly wished that time would pause if only to savour this moment of overwhelming calmness that ran thorough her. Its been years since Charlotte has ever truly felt at peace with herself. Where all her anxiety and worries were dulled down to be hardly even noticeable. In fact, she felt so carefree that she wanted to jump into the cooling waters and allow the tiny waves to wash away any further doubt she still possessed. However, this wasn't why Charlotte had decided to come here today.
Leaning off of the railing with a soft sigh, Charlotte turned towards her destination. It was a large building covered in stained glass windows, and from where she was standing, the cathedral looked to be touching the sky almost. It was fenced off by; from what she heard, "The Heavens Gate" which in turn peeked her interest. After having left her old church behind in her hometown, Charlotte had yet to join a new one and upon hearing about the Cathedral of Akari, she wanted to see it for herself. Now having to look upon its massive glory, she felt flooded with emotion. She didn't know what to make of it and its enormousness. It was beautiful, yet terrifying at the same time. But regardless, a sense of excitement still tainted her blood.
Filled with anticipation, Charlotte made her way over to the Church.
Lilliana had been apart of the War of the Traitors. She had learned to follow after Akari without question. Though she couldn't bring herself to dislike the hell species and when they were locked out, she felt sympathetic for them. But none, more than her friend, who happened to be a demon. Memories never ceased to cross her mind. How she was willing to die for him so that she wouldn't have to fight any longer and yet, they instead defended each other and later betrayed their sides before fleeing the area to avoid anymore blood shed. Of course that hadn't been good enough, so she had found herself joining AP and later her friend had joined TRS and their life continued on, to this very day. Memories of Akari, she found herself wandering nearby the church, but never daring to go inside of it.
She knew that upon betraying her that she would never again be allowed in her presence. In fact it wouldn't surprise her if Akari would plan on destroying all that betrayed her, if she ever managed to become free of heaven. She prayed that day would never come, though she had once served under Akari, besides being with her friend, it was the only other thing she really knew and so she remained outside, remaining quiet if others were to come to visit. I'm AP now, but I don't feel like playing that role. She thought to herself, only ever really taking on that role when it called for it. She had noticed Charlotte walking towards the church. She had told herself that she'd remain quiet but she just couldn't help herself. "Hello." She greeted, somewhat in a whisper, remaining in her spot instead of moving closer. If Charlotte wanted to go to the church, who was she to stop her?
"Hello," it was almost like a whisper in the wind as Charlotte made her way down the road. At first, she didn't really catch the whole word. It sounded more like a noise of various tones and tempos. The mere oddness of the sound was what caught Charlotte's attention. Out of curiosity, her brain began to jumble the sounds together, trying to figure out what made sense and what didn't. One half sounded like 'Heh' while the other, more like 'Low'. Her eyes brows pressed together in concentration as Charlotte stopped in her steps. "Halo?" She spoke out loud, not realizing her mistake until a couple side-walkers glanced her; giving her this confused look before moving on with their business.
Immediately her face became flustered and she was just about to return to her path of holy grace, when Charlotte caught a glimpse of red eyes staring at her. Charlotte took a jagged breath as her pupils grew smallish in fear, "-...If there are any sightings of a dark haired woman with crimson coloured eyes, the police department asks that they are reported back to them, immediately." Her body froze in place as if she was slowly being covered in solid ice. Crimson red eyes... staring at me.. Her fingers clenched her bag, trembling violently from the impossible possibility. There's no way... there's no way that she's here. Curiosity corrupting her body, Charlotte slowly began to shift towards the direction of the evil. S-She's inside me.. She couldn't have found another body---! Almost instantly, her body relaxed at the sight of a red-headed, red eyed women; instead of the evil she suspected to see. However, having had her nerves shot into action, Charlotte's jitteriness remained.
She found it slightly off that the stranger stared at her, but having had them witness her silent panic, Charlotte approached them. "E-Excuse me." Charlotte spoke, her words still trembling. "Is there something y-you need?"
Lilliana watched as Charlotte continued walking, perhaps because she hadn't heard her comment? Oh well, she didn't feel a great need in repeating herself, whether it would be the same volume or a bit louder. She watched as Charlotte had come to a stop before speaking out loud Halo. She raised a hand to her lip, chuckling slightly, finding the error of word adorable, even though Charlotte likely hadn't done it on purpose. It didn't help that she had giggled when some other bystanders had looked towards Charlotte with a confused expression before going on their way. Maybe she is limited in speaking English? She thought to herself, feeling horrible for finding it amusing only moments prior. She noticed the flustered face and once more found her adorable. Though just before walking on her way, Charlotte was found herself looking towards her, that expression, was it fear? Once asked if she needed something, she shook her head no. "I don't need anything, just custom to greet." She explained, feeling bad that she had held her up from possibly going to the church. So she does speak English? She thought to himself, once more amused at how things happened only moments prior.
She couldn't help but quietly fiddle with her prayer beads, if only to help calm the nerves that still rattled her body. "O-Oh. Well in that case," Charlotte said with as much lightheartedness as she could muster in her state. "I'm Charlotte~" Extending her hand in greeting, she tilted her head and smiled with her eyes closed. The image of evil flashed in her mind, revealing the red eyed, dark haired monster standing in front of her instead the fashionable lady she believed she was greeting. A sharp tingle that ran through her body forced Charlotte to reopen her eyes, and hold the smile with more concentration than she wished to. Go away... Go away and just leave me alone. She whispered to the silence in her mind, knowing full well that a demon lurked in the darkness.
"I'm new around here." Charlotte finally admitted to the stranger. "I had heard there was a Church-.. or well, a Cathedral and I wanted to check it out." A slight glee could be heard from the tone of her voice as she said 'cathedral'. Charlotte had never had the chance to enter or even see a Cathedral before, and upon hearing about it around town, brought excitement to her very core.
She hadn't had a chance to actually take a moments notice of the fashion the women before her was wearing. Charlotte wasn't particularly into fashion. She preferred more simple wear that could still look lovely without having to bejewel herself. In fact, she found the whole idea ridiculous. Who would want to go through the trouble of putting layers of jewelry on a day, or even make-up? But now having time to glance the lady over, she found her very beautiful; aside from the striking red eyes that was.
"Do you know anything about it?" She asked the gorgeous lady.
Lilliana noticed Charlotte seemed to be fiddling with her prayer beads, she couldn't help but feel like now would be the perfect time to go, as to leave her alone. To her surprise, Charlotte spoke up, encouraging her to stay, even if it would be only a little bit longer. "Lilliana." She answered, taking Charlotte's hand in her own. She couldn't help but stare at Charlotte because she had closed her eyes. Why isn't she looking back at me? She thought to herself, debating on if she should ask or leave her alone as she had previously decided only moments prior. "Oh?" She answered, pleased to see a new guest in the area. "So you came here?" She asked, slowly trying to build a conversation with Charlotte. "I'm not the best person to ask, unfortunately." She answered with a sad smile on her lips. Though she knew plenty about it, she viewed herself as unworthy and the last thing she wanted to do was talk about her belief's or past for that matter. "I'm sure there is somebody lurking around here with better information." She answered, hoping to slowly pull away from this conversation.
Her heart fluttered at the words, panic rising quicker than Charlotte could calm. Although she had walked herself into this question, the idea of someone knowing what happened.. Charlotte swallowed what little saliva was in her dry mouth, and continued to force her fake smile forward; wearing her happy mask with less confidence than before. "Y-Yes, I decided that this was a perfect place to live." She explained truthfully. Or, as truthfully as Charlotte was willing to give to... To someone she doesn't recognized from her hometown; not like she knew a many people to begin with. In her frantic escape, there wasn't many options Charlotte could pick from. Her only option at the time was to run. Run as far as she could until she could stop and think for a moment. And within that moment, Charlotte found Lorsette. It was perfect... So far away from home, no one could possibly recognize her. Right?
"I'm not the best person to ask, unfortunately."
The way the strangers smile seemed sad made Charlotte selfish-panic fade away; though not completely. She knew this kind of smile all too well. It was one she wore constantly, one she rarely could make go away. How could she? After everything she lost? How could Charlotte just... smile like nothing ever happen... She couldn't, but she always tried. "N-No! Its okay!" She blurted, her hands flailing in defense. "If you don't know anything, there's no reason to feel bad." Trying her best to seem reassuring, Charlotte smiled as brightly as she could at the women. "Please don't feel bad. I'm sure if I go there, I'll get more information." Extending her hand, Charlotte waited for their farewell shake. "It was a pleasure to meet you though!"
Lilliana watched as Charlotte seemed appeared somewhat uncomfortable, it was difficult to pin point the emotion exactly but to her, it was enough to make her believe it would be best to back away from her as means to allow her to become as ease once more. Charlotte spoke up and it had caught her by surprise. I meant came to the church. She thought to herself, feeling bad that she hadn't clarified with her. Before she had a chance to re-ask her question, Charlotte had asked her question and she found herself uncomfortable with giving information at this time. Her answer must have made Charlotte feel more uncomfortable or something because she had raised her hands in the air, blurting out how it would be okay if she didn't know anything. The problem was that she had known a lot of things, but she didn't believe herself to be the best person to answer the question. As reassuring Charlotte had attempted to sound, she still felt bad for refusing to just give her the information since she knew a lot about, most likely more then the people lurking here, it was difficult to say.
Charlotte had reached out her hand, thoughts were pondering in her mind, knowing she would regret it if she didn't clarify a few things before Charlotte left, seeing as they might never see each other again, or at least that is how she viewed it. Slowly she would reach out her hand to take Charlotte's hand in hers. "I..." She found herself siding glancing, feeling ashamed that the words hadn't come out of mouth. "Know plenty about it, or used to anyway." Slowly she would glance back towards Charlotte. At least now she would know she had known but it was more of a, not comfortable to speak about it reason. "I also apologize about earlier. I meant came to the church." She gave a weak chuckling before adding, "A pleasure to meet you too." She answered, feeling like she had kept her long enough, she released her hand so that Charlotte would be free from her, if she so chose.
As Lilliana took a hold of Charlotte's extended hand, Charlotte could almost see the shame glisten in her eyes before she avert Charlotte's gaze. She wasn't completely sure if what she saw was true, at least not until Charlotte could hear the quiet discomfort in her voice. Her heart tightened for this beautiful lady, for she knew all to well how it felt to be ashamed.
"I understand." Charlotte said with as soft smile present on her lips. Although she couldn't understand why this lady had lied, Charlotte could empathize with her. In fact, she couldn't really get mad; especially not with someone who looked so torn apart.. just like she was. "As I said, please don't feel bad." She continued with a gentle voice. "I meant no offense to my respond." But as Charlotte spoke, the lady explained her previous question.
"O-Oh!" Her eyes grew wide from the surprise of her assumed answer. How could she be so stupid to think that someone; whom never been to her hometown, could possibly know about---... "I-I'm sorry!" She blurted out again, the once soft and calm waters of Charlotte demeanor vanishing as though it was never there. Her heart raced at her mistake, forgetting what happened only moments prior. Her mind was racing in millions of different directions, attempting to settle on a single constant. How? How could she so easily have messed up? How could Charlotte almost ruined everything she worked towards? Stupid! Stupid! Why am I like this! --- Oh.. so you finally came to realize.. took you long enough. The voice chimed in, gleefully. "I-I did not mean to assume my answer." Charlotte explained rather rushed.
"B-But yes, I-I'm -- Christian you see.." upon mentioning the word 'Christian', Charlotte's mind finally start to easy and her thunderous heart slowly calmed once more. "After moving, I don't have a church to go to. So, I decided to look for one." A small smile tugged at the corners of her lips. Her eyes in a daze as she recalls her thoughts. "I heard about this cathedral and thought 'I need to see it for myself!'.. So here I am." Returning to herself, Charlotte lifted her eyes back to Lilliana, the smile growing like a pleasant weed.
Lilliana couldn't help but feel slightly confused on how her answer got Charlotte to apologize to her, it hadn't been her intent. She noticed that she no longer appeared calm. Before she got a chance to say anything, Charlotte had spoken up again. "No worries, I should have clarified my question." She answered in return, "Though I do hope you find Lorsette to your liking." She answered, trying to sound reassuring. The last thing she wanted to do was pry. For some reason, upon hearing Charlotte claim she was Christian it made her flinch Yes, plenty of people need faith in something or somebody. She thought to herself, having used to be that way herself. Or at least she viewed them as one of the same. She knew Akari, having served under her during the war, then betrayed. "It is good that you have faith." She answered, struggling with her answer.
I think about Akari everyday and yet, I can't help but feel like I'm stuck in the past instead of knowing about the future. She thought to herself, somewhat upset at the idea of failing to keep up with things. "I haven't thought about Akari in years. So hopefully you find the answers you are looking for." She added, unsure of what else to say at this point. Sure she could gain the courage and explain the past, but then again, she believed Charlotte to be searching for the current answers and not the past ones. "I know I could go over there to find out the answers for myself but... I'm going to stay here." The answer had come out as somewhat of a whisper, not that Charlotte had invited her to tag along or anything like that, more so a just in case as means of having an easier time getting out of it.
"I haven't thought about Akari in years. So hopefully you--"
"Akari?" Charlotte quickly replied, interrupted the girl by accident. It wasn't her intent to be so rude and cut her off, but... That name.. She's heard it before a few times, but never knew exactly who it was. Was it another religion? She thought, hoping to find the answers herself. But alas, the question continued to linger in her mind; who was Akari?
Realizing her mistake moments after the words left her lips, Charlotte hurriedly placed her hands over her mouth; eyes wide with surprise. She couldn't believe herself; first she assumes the lady's question and now she interrupts her. What a wonderful impression she must have of Charlotte. Regret began to fill the holes in her heart, creating that dreadful weight on her shoulders as she slowly removed her hands.
"I-I'm so sorry!" She apologized once again; not like it had much meaning now. "M-My mind got ahead of itself. I-I hadn't meant to interrupt you!" Charlotte tried to explain, cringing at how desperate she sounded. Dropping her hands down to her waist, Charlotte rubbed her smooth skin, allowing for that small comfort to calm her ever-raging nerves. "Please forgive me..." Her voice was hushed, quieter than a whisper. Her eyes glazed down at the ground, looking as small as she could to Liliana. Charlotte hadn't dared look up, afraid of the horrid look Liliana might have for her constant rudeness.
Ooc Comment: I'm sorry for cutting your post short! Just Charlotte would've interrupted Liliana once she mentioned Akari >//<!!
Lilliana had heard Charlotte's question but had resumed her sentence before going silent. As bad as she felt for failing to give further information, she couldn't bring herself to talk about Akari right at the moment. She had after all, been her god, well still was, or at least that is how she sorta viewed it. She found herself in a complicated set of mind, unsure on how she would explain her feelings. Surely she wasn't still her god, not after she had betrayed her during the war? She watched as Charlotte had raised her hands over her mouth, appearing surprised. Once her hands had lowered, she listened as she apologized for interrupting her earlier. Slowly she raised her hand in the air, "Don't worry about it." She answered, faking a smile on her lips. If she thought she wouldn't be able to talk about Akari before, she had come to realize that she still was unable to talk about her. She lowered her hand, "There is nothing to forgive, you didn't do anything wrong." She tried promising, not wishing for Charlotte to notice her discomfort on the subject. "I'm sure the people around here would know the answer better than myself." She answered glancing in that direction before making her whispered comment.
It was shocking how calmly Lilliana dismissed Charlotte's repetitive plead for forgiveness; exclaiming that there wasn't really anything to forgive. It was unusual and strange to Charlotte to have someone; like Lilliana, to forgive her without a moments thought. Slowly, Charlotte raised her downward gaze and met the eyes of the stranger that smiled meekly at her. Attempting to speak, Charlotte parted her lips for just a moment, only to realize that she had no idea what to say. What could she have said? More pleading, even after having been told that she had no reason to apologize? Or perhaps a thank you, for the understanding that the lady had given; one that might lead to too many questions... Questions Charlotte couldn't answer, for reasons that could not be spoken.
In her hopeless state of mind, the soft and quiet whisper of Lilliana's voice caught Charlotte's attention. Her voice sounded sad in a way that Charlotte couldn't understand. Had their meeting brought dread upon her? Was this Charlotte's fault? A frown began to form as she nodded to the lady in acknowledgement.
"..Um" she expressed unintentionally. "Thank you, Lilliana for the suggestion." In her attempt to seem less unappreciative, Charlotte forced an easy smile. "I'll ask someone around here for more information about the church. But.. Uh.. Lilliana?" Charlotte paused, hoping to grab the girls attention completely. "Don't fright yourself too much over this. Meeting you has been a blessing and I appreciate your efforts very much. So, Thank you." extending her hand to Lilliana once more, she waited for their final farewell.
Lilliana watched Charlotte, becoming pleased when she had lifted her gaze to her, giving a friendly smile. Silence came between them and she wasn't sure of what else to say. Thought their time had been cut short, she knew it had been her own fault, had she been able to give Charlotte the answers she was seeking or been more willing their time would have gone on for a while longer. "Thank you." She whispered in return before slowly reaching out to take Charlotte's hand in her own. "May you find the answers your seeking." She whispered, slowly pulling her hand away before stepping away from Charlotte. It was sweet of you to say such things to me, though I know I'll have a long way to go before I truly deserve such kind words. She thought to herself before turning to walk away. Being near Akari's church couldn't help but make her fell such dread. I know I don't deserve it, but I miss serving Akari and I'm grateful for the time I got serving under her. She thought to herself, at peace with her chosen action to flee with Brasti instead of resuming the war.
