Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

"It wasn't hard to know what happened after March 22nd. The entire town of Faro was warned by the announcement of the recently discovered killer in town. No one knew where she came from or who she was, only that there was now 3 bodies found dead within a period of a week. All victims of each crime were connected to Charlotte Light who has been asked to come in for questioning, but no one has seen or heard from her after the death of Mr. King. If there are any sightings of a dark haired woman with crimson coloured eyes, the police department asks that they are reported back to them, immediately..." The womanly voice from the radio was cut off by the man in the delivery truck. Charlotte was sort of glad by the now recent silence, but in order to prevent an awkward ride, she turned to the man and asked, "Got any music?"[break] It was spring time here in Lorsette, and the drive to her apartment provided a wonderful view of all the beautiful trees that began to blossom for the soon arriving summer weather. She couldn't ask for a better place to start her new life. No one knew who she was here, and that's exactly how she wanted it to be. Many people wish to start over their life, and in Lorsette, that is what Charlotte was getting; a new start, a new home, a new life. She looked out the window, gazing at the various buildings that structured the gorgeous city, at the decor that seemed to bring the city to life; and finally, at the people that walked the streets of Lorsette. She wondered to herself how many of those people will notice her, and how many would try to get to know her. In all honesty, she hoped that none of them would. She hoped that each and every person that walked on the sidewalks wouldn't give her a sideways glance. But deep down, she also hoped they would.[break][break]
"We're here." The gentlemen said beside her, pulling her out from her observation of the buzzing city around them. He didn't wait for her reply before he jumped out of the truck and began unloading her items from the back. She didn't own a lot of things. In fact, majority of the objects in the back were brand new. Not wanting to leave the driver waiting, Charlotte climbed out of the truck and turned around to face the building in front of her; her new home. The apartment complex was fairly small, stretching to about 5 floors. It was a lovely cream coloured building with darker accents, and Charlotte loved every section of it as she stared at the property. Simultaneously, Charlotte's eyes began to scan the establishment in search of her own room, but given that all the balconies looked similar, she wasn't sure which one was her own. "Will that be everything, mam?" the man said from behind the tailgate. Finally finished taking in the sight of the structure, Charlotte rounded the corner of the truck and nodded her thanks to the gentlemen. "Yes, that'll be all. Thank you." Having being dismissed, the driver jumped back into his truck and drove back to his job. After watching him leave, she glanced at the boxes and luggage that littered the pavement. A small smile slowly began to appear on her face as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Let's begin...[break][break]
Opening her eyes and grinning at the boxes with excitement, she picked up a box filled with wooden parts for her bed frame. She knew how heavy the box was, and knew she probably wasn't strong enough to carry it to her room. But being filled with determination brought Charlotte to this point of awkwardly carrying the heavy package into the apartment complex, and into the elevator. Upon setting the box down, Charlotte realized she had forgotten to breath. Bracing her hand on the wall behind her, she took a moments rest as the elevator made its way to the 3rd floor. She's always hated how weak she was. It was always the cause of her bullying both at school and at home. They all knew how vulnerable she was, and knew she wasn't going to fight back; which made her the perfect target. But things were going to change. She thought to herself, a smile still on her face as she huffed for air. I'll get stronger, and I'll carry this box to my room just to prove it! And with that, the ding from the elevator sounded. Hunching down, Charlotte picked up the box once again and walked into the hallway. Things were going smoothly if you didn't count her odd way of walking through the hall, or her stranded face as she tried her best to keep the box pressed against herself. But things weren't going to stay that way for long. Eventually Charlotte's arms began to give-in, and she started to lose her grip on the box. She tried to prevent the box from falling by shifting herself into a more awkward position which resulted in her losing her balance, and losing the box all together. The box; having being tossed, broke open upon impact. The wood pieces that were neatly stacked into the package were now scattered in the hallway. Charlotte; unfortunately, landed directly on top of the scattered material, causing the box to be flattened underneath her. "Ow..." She groaned after landing onto the hard surface, knowing that her sensitive skin was surely going to bruise later.

At the center of his room, Nolan had drawn upon his sixth attempt of a vision-seeing Hexing circle. Caramel brown hair had messily befallen his face from his adamant but rather mentally draining practices... determined to finally perfect one enough to where he could distinctively see his younger brother Basil. Before moving to Lorsette he'd managed to succeed one time in creating a sight-seeing Hexing circle to be able to distinguish a sign in the background of the vision....one that with research, he and his friends were able to discover was of a city called Lorsette. Ever since then, however, Nolan found himself hitting road block upon road block in strengthening his Hexing skills enough to see more clearly... to see the precise features of his brother, or control his visions well-enough to force a clear indicator of where exactly he was at now to transpire.
A dark glow of shadow magic begun spiraling throughout the border of his blood-drawn symbolism on the wooden flooring the apartment, his eyes squeezing shut as he tried his hardest to manifest what he desired. He focused all his thoughts on Basil and to the best of his abilities, harvesting enough energy to convince the Hexing ritual to show him something that he could actually get somewhere with. Even if it was just a foggy vision of an obscure building with his brother nearby-- even a freaking tree with something distinct about it, he was willing to take. The shadow magic begun spiraling faster and faster along the drawn symbols.... Nolan's head bowing, fingers tightly clutching his knees as he focused....
The familiar whizzing sound of the shadows unveiling a transparent cloud floating above the circle caught his attention and Nolan immediately lifted his head with eyes opening. He stared intently at the cloud as the magic begun to slowly manifest something.... but yet again, nothing of substance appeared within it's portal. An unsteady, flickering flash of multiple visions happened so fast that he couldn't even decipher them had took form before the fog faded. "God dammit..." Nolan snapped in frustration, hands irritably clawing through his hair. Small cuts made on his finger tips as a source of blood for his hexing had but miniscule traces of red left upon their surfaces. The shadow magic had vanished entirely, leaving the circle diminished in appearance due to much of the small traces of blood being absorbed through its energy.
"Why can't I get this stupid thing right?" Nolan threw his arms down by his side, glaring down at his failure of a hex... he'd seen more flashing images than the previous times, but still... it wasn't good enough. He'd only been in Lorsette for a few days now but he didn't want to waste any more time with being a part from his brother. The darkness within him.... Nolan was forced to accept, so that he may have a chance of using its powers to reunite with his only remaining family. It was his fault he wasn't already proficient in shadow magic.... because he had refused to use it out of denial of becoming Fallen. Maybe if he'd just... given into it.... he would have mastered it by now, and would have already found Basil.
With a wet rag, Nolan cleaned the floor before tossing it away in the garbage. Despondency consumed his gaze, solemnity showing within his eyes as he went about tidying up the living room so that it wouldn't be a mess for when Jared came back from his job interview. His other roommate, Caleb, had gone to the gym. Nolan used the time he had alone to once more practice his Hexing and while he'd made progress, it wasn't enough to satisfy him at all. He hated how long it was taking.... and even if in reality, it'd but been two days since he came to Lorsette, it was still another two days of his life without knowing where his brother was.
Popping open the cap of a water bottle, Nolan took a long and parched sip. It was then when a loud CRASH sound occurred just outside his apartment door. He looked over in its direction.... surprise hinting within the gloom of his gaze. "What the hell was that?" He murmured to himself, before hearing a feminine "Ow..." a few moments later. The voice of a young lady sounding hurt was enough for him to set aside his water bottle and zip out of the kitchen area. His socked feet nearly slipped on the sleek wood floor but luckily, the sliding only gave him easier momentum as it slipped him right to the door. Opening it, Nolan stepped half-way out to see a small woman having taken a fall in the hallway with a broke box and scattered wooden pieces all over the place.
Nolan's brown eyes widened at the sight in concern and alarm. "Woah, hey! Are you okay? He asked her right away, closing his door behind him as he went right up to the girl and offered her hand. A friendly, but still nonetheless concerned smile crossed the warmth of his face when looking upon her, "Were you carrying this all by yourself? Jeez, it looks heavy..." Was there seriously no one else helping her? There was no way that a box packed with all those wood pieces would be easy for a petite girl to carry....
[attr="class","box"]tag: @shairyuu notes: Thank you again for starting!! It was the perfect opening sequence for their meeting ^^
Charlotte laid on the wooden pieces in defeat. Every time she tries to prove to herself that she could make a difference in her life, that she could pull through the shadow that clouds her heart, she fails. Just like in this exact moment, she tries to prove her strength but instead she fumbles and falls, resulting in her feeling utterly defeated and worn. Why can't I do the most simplest things? If I don't get stronger, the same thing will happen again and again... More and more people will be hurt by me... Its my fault.. Its always my fault.. Her thoughts nearly brought herself to tears. That same saying she's always done for years 'He blames me.. He always blames me' has been a permit scar on her soul. Slowly, her determination to change her life and start over was growing smaller by the minute. How could Charlotte start over with a clean-slate when so much of the past followed her? It was like chains wrapped around her wrists that glided on concrete flooring. No matter how far she went or how desperate she was, it was always there, always a constant reminder of what will never be forgotten. Her past was apart of her now, a scar that never heals. Charlotte just wished it wasn't.. [break][break]
As if on cue, the appearance of a young man pulled Charlotte out of her negative thinking and startled her into reality. "Woah, hey! Are you okay?" It felt like her heart was attempting to escape with how quickly it thundered against her ribcage. She'd completely forgotten that this was an apartment complex and that there were neighbours around that clearly heard her horrendous fall when she collided to the ground. Her face began to grow bright red when realizing that someone had heard her fall, her imagination not really helping as it began to rehearse an over exaggerated version of her fall. "Y-Yes! I'm okay!" She shouted rather quickly, forgetting the small enclosure she was in while trying to recover from her embarrassment. She felt ridiculous, she couldn't get anything right. Not carrying the package, not the volume of her voice, or even how to present herself when someone has caught her when she's become embarrassed. Although, when she turned her head to face the stranger before her, she noticed the outstretched hand he had offered her. It was kind of him; she knew, but why? She was a stranger, and no one of importance. Why bother? But regardless of her questioning to his kindness, she accepted his offer and used his strength to stable herself onto her feet.[break][break]
"Were you carrying this all by yourself? Jeez, it looks heavy..." She took a breath in attempt to calm her nerves before looking at the mess she caused. The pieces of her wooden frame were everywhere, it was a total mess. Any sign of her pretend happiness she tried to show the stranger quickly faded at the sight of her disaster. My fault.. always my fault.. She started to bite the inside of her lip, hoping the pain might distract her from her thoughts. She really didn't know how to respond to him. His genuine concerned confused her, especially when hes done nothing wrong. "I-I..." She stuttered, trying to find the right words to communicate to him. Charlotte turned back and faced him again, stretching her arm behind her head and scratched the back of her scalp. She hoped her half smile-half anxious expression might convince him when she said "I tripped." as an excuse for the mess.[break][break]
"I promise I'll clean it up!" She says rather rushedly, slightly panicked by whether her neighbour might be mad at her for causing so much noise. "I-I really didn't mean to bother you!" She responded apologetically. The pain on her arms and knees started to come and Charlotte winced. From all the excitement, she forgotten about the fact her body had literally done a body slam to her newly bought bed frame. As if on instinct, Charlotte's hand immediately raised to where the pain was most prominent and touched the area. With only a slight touch the pain increased in that individual area of affect, and Charlotte knew she was going to bruise. But; despite the pain, she held the area and still tried to convince the man in front of her; with a smile, that she was fine.
[newclass=".infi-lyric4"]font-size:50px;position:absolute;font-family:Old Standard TT;color:#555;padding-right:10px;background:#f9f9f9;line-height:50px;height:50px;font-weight:800;width:240px;margin-top:45px;margin-left:-26px;text-align:right;[/newclass]
The girl that'd taken quite the fall in the hallway turned bright red upon being met with Nolan. When seeing the color of her face, matched with the mess of wood planks and the visible struggle of having carried heavy cargo, made him feel worse for her... he felt really bad for the poor girl. He wasn't the type who felt embarrassment easily but he could still feel empathy towards her and have an unspoken understanding of how she was hurt, but also possibly feeling caught in head-lights with having some guy pop out of his apartment to check out what the noise was.
Nolan didn't want her to feel self-conscious, and tried his best not to say or do anything that would provoke stronger emotions of that caliber. When she spoke up, she stammered out that she was fine, and a momentary relief shown within the friendliness of his gaze.... though in all honesty he wasn't completely convinced that she was okay. He wondered if part of her response was part of her trying to compose herself after taking a fall and trying to seem fine when she wasn't. Such thoughts solidified more when catching the way her hopeful expression diminish at the mess of wood that'd scattered the flooring.
Upon her raising onto her feet, he let go of her hand after using the weight of his arm to give her a boost up. The girl hesitated while turning away from him, his gaze becoming curious, before she once more faced him with an anxious smile upon her face while admitting she'd tripped. "Yikes, that must have been painful," Nolan sympathetically responded, "I'm glad you didn't get injured. It would have been terrible to find you here by yourself with a pile of wood holding you down," The teen always tried the best in every situation while not ignoring the reality of what was bad. Sure, it was a good thing she didn't actually get weighed down with a more so serious collision of heavy wooden bed frame on her, but it still must have hurt.
As the petite blonde made her promises and fretful reassurances, Nolan's smile grew and he gave a casual and easygoing wave of his hand. "It's okay, don't worry about it. You weren't bothering anyone. Besides, I'm a lot more concerned about how you're feeling and being responsible for carrying so much on your own than anything else," His eyes caught sight of where she was holding herself, causing his eyebrows to lower with a worried smile upon his face, "Are you sure you're okay...? Does anything hurt? You look like you don't feel good..." An itch to help her collect everything that'd fallen was definitely on the brink for him but he first wanted to really make sure that she was actually okay before anything else.
Charlotte felt bad. She was making this poor guy worry over her, and she had never intended to. She only wanted to prove to herself that she was more than what everyone said she was. She is tougher now.. Or at least she hoped she was tough... "N-No.. I-I'm okay. It didn't really hurt." She lied softly to lovely brown haired boy. She knew lying was bad and probably figured that he might pick up on it, but she hated to worry others. The worry of others was not needed when Charlotte was involved, even if she broke a leg, the concern they might feel was not necessary; or at least that was what she was told.[break][break]
Charlotte believed the past would go away as soon as she became physically and mentally stronger. But history loves to repeat itself, and her past always seems to find its way back to her. No matter how hard she tries, it always seems like she could never get away. She pulled her arms to herself upon feeling the agony in her arm and leg. Not only did she cradle herself because of the sudden sting of pain, but also to hug herself in order to create some sort of barrier; a kind of protection between her and the stranger. But also, a kind of comfort. The pain that occurred was alarming as well as disappointing. It only suggested more reason as to why she disliked herself; and most of all, her own body. It always seems to betray her whenever shes trying to improve upon herself. Her sensitive skin was surely going to bruise, and there was nothing Charlotte could do to prevent it. This was just how her small fragile body functioned. It would bruise or become damage in any way very easily. It upset her, angered her even.[break][break]
Why couldn't I be born with a body that was well built? One that didn't show the pain? One that wouldn't make me an ideal target for harm...? Why me..? Her self-doubt started to consume her more and she pulled her arms closer to herself, regardless of the screaming pain it caused. But she was quickly shaken out of her mind upon hearing the tall young man answered her. Still, he seemed concerned about her and about her well-being, but why? She was nothing, she meant nothing, she was a nobody to him and everyone in this world, so why care? She pressed her lips together in anxious way, nibbling softly on the inside of her lips. It wasn't long before the man's light brown eyes caught sight of her body language and became more troubled by her behaviour. She was causing this, she was causing him to be uneasy by her. She is the cause of everything. Its her fault. Its always her fault. "N-No please! I'm truly okay!" She insisted, slight panic tinting her voice. "I-I promise I'm okay! S-See?" In attempts to prove her healthy condition, Charlotte bent down to the floor, resisting the urge to wince at the screaming pain in her legs. [break][break]
Charlotte figured this was the best coarse of action she could've done to prove to the strange man that she was fine. She didn't like how easily he saw through her, or that she was being so obvious for him to be able to see her as easily as he did. She figured if she can bite through the agony of her sore body and lift one of the heavy wooden pieces, he might believe her. Charlotte would've believed it herself had she not failed at lifting the piece high enough to carry. After she had bent down to pick up one of the large pieces, the shriek that ran through her arms was unbearable. After having carried the heavy box of materials, her arm had given out and within that process her muscle had torn. She hadn't felt it at the time because immediately afterwards she was faced with the pain of body slamming into several study objects. Charlotte dropped the piece she was attempting to carry, and gasped in pain. The sound of the misery in her voice alarmed her, but she couldn't focus on it. The only thing she currently cared about was proving she was okay, and holding her aching arms as close to her heart as they can be. "I-I'm okay.. I-I just... I-It slipped." She lied once more, still trying to reassure the man of her well being. She might've been more convincing had she not just dropped the wooden board and sounded like she was going to cry. [break][break]
Charlotte was not only facing the soreness of her body, but also the reality of the other remaining boxes that were on the main floor, still waiting to be carried up. If she couldn't carry a singular piece of wood farther than her current position, how on earth was she going to manage the rest of the heavy packages? She didn't know.. And she loathed herself for it..
[attr="class","infinite-note"]Nolan Hawthorne - NOTES I'm sorry if this is a little morbid! Charlotte generally goes into a very dark and grim place D:
[newclass=".infi-lyric4"]font-size:50px;position:absolute;font-family:Old Standard TT;color:#555;padding-right:10px;background:#f9f9f9;line-height:50px;height:50px;font-weight:800;width:240px;margin-top:45px;margin-left:-26px;text-align:right;[/newclass]
Nolan intuitively sensed that she wasn't all right... and had, in a way, hoped she'd open up to him in sharing what may have been particularly hurting. He was sure that after falling the way that she did, something may have happened with her leg or one of her ankles... and while he had also hoped that she wouldn't be in pain, it was obvious in her demeanor and the look in her eyes that something had genuinely hurt.
As she pulled her arms closer towards herself, it was then when tension shown in her face, one that Nolan recognized as pain... and he realized that it may have been more than just her legs, but also her arms too.
However, she once more assured him that she was all right. Her once soft voice had turned panic whilst she tried to prove that she was fine, demonstrating a bending-down action to pick up one of the pieces of wood. In the process, her face shown in greater pain and immediately she dropped the wood, gasping in pain. Nolan's instinctive reaction was to step forward and break the distance between them, reaching to catch her in case if she fell but paused before his extended palms touched her when the petite blonde had prevented herself from taking a downfall along with the cluttering piece of wood.
The boy's smile drew in with concern, brown eyes gazing upon the girl and feeling even more worried for her than before. "Hey, it's okay... things like this happen to every one. But... I have to be honest with you, and I hope I'm not crossing a line here--" He spoke soothingly and calmly, hoping that such a tone would help the girl feel less embarrassed, nervous, or somehow help the already difficult situation for her, "-- But you really look like you're in pain, especially just now after that piece of wood gave you a hard time again." His smile warmed, hands relaxing by his sides. "Mind if I lend you a hand with getting all of this to your room? Think of it as receiving help from your new neighbor," He offered, having in mind an easy way to get all of this troublesome wood out of the way... he had a plan in mind, and had his fingers crossed that she'd at least allow him to help her. [break][break]
She seemed like someone who tried doing things by herself which was an admirable quality, but there were some things that someone couldn't do alone and the idea of her going back to lugging all of that wood around in a box while probably being bruised or sprained pained him. "I don't want to see you getting any more hurt," Nolan added sympathetically, and honestly as his hands found themselves in the front pockets of his jeans. Truthfully, he wanted to ask her more about her physical well-being after what happened, but he didn't want to push her.
[attr="class","box"]tag: @shairyuu notes: Ahhh I'm so sorry about taking forever T__T;;; My muse was kind of low for awhile, along with offline responsibilities taking over. -huggles-
After having failed at lifting the wooden board, the male had stepped closer to her; closing the gap between them. His hand had reached for her, almost as if in attempt to catch her, but his hand never touched her skin. Charlotte had wondered why the man corrected himself, but didn't focus on the question for to long. Her mind was elsewhere at the moment; at the agonizing pain in her arms. She clung to them; a hand atop of her other hand, pressing her arms into her skin beneath her floral dress Charlotte wore. Even though the pain seemed to become more intense by Charlotte squeezing her arms closer to her, it provided her with a kind of mental comfort from the stranger that watched her. [break][break]
Upon hearing the soft and calming voice of her neighbour, Charlotte's gaze returned to meet his light brown eyes. He was smiling warmly at her, and his demeanor seem to radiate off this gentle aura. After everything, he still kept this soothing behaviour. And even though she questioned it, Charlotte felt more relaxed and at ease. Slowly, she released the tension on her arms and returned his smile with one that was more anxious. "Are you sure?" She replied. "I have a lot of boxes to carry up, and..." she paused, gazing down at her pathetic state. Her smile vanished and a frown formed as she looked at her fragile and small body. "I-I'm not going to be much help.." She said in a soft and quiet tone. [break][break]
In a way, Charlotte pitied herself. Not only could she not carry the boxes up herself, but now she might end up having to leave majority of the heavy work to a kind man she had just met. Although he had offered her his help, she still wanted to do more than she could. If only to avoid the gentlemen from doing her job himself. However, Charlotte didn't remain in her negative state for long. The man's next words caught her by surprise, and Charlotte's eyes widened. In all her life, Charlotte has never heard such concern come from another person before. She almost didn't believe it, had she not heard the honesty in his voice. H-He cares? She questioned to herself. A-About me? It didn't quite make sense in her head why a stranger would care for her. But despite that, Charlotte knew if she continued down this path someone else was going to show up. Someone she really didn't want to appear at all.[break][break]
"I'm really sorry." Charlotte apologized. "I didn't mean to make you worry."
