Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
As the sun continued dim, the gold shimmer dazzling in the air around William intensified. It was impossible to ignore... impossible for Nolan to turn a blind eye to. He could hardly believe it, his light brown eyed gaze turning in wonderment and surprise, but before he could say more the other young man had already proceeded to give him an answer. [break][break]
'They' told him that this would happen.... whomever 'they' was.... did he meant the TRS? This is what Nolan could draw up as a conclusion, eyes blinking in fascination at the sight before him. William's energy noticeably became more exciteable as he'd drew himself closer to Nolan with his own shared curiosity about his own magic.[break][break]
Such fascination Nolan felt developed into a smile crossing his lips, hands having found themselves in the warmth of his sweatshirt pockets. Being called strong was quite the compliment that he took to heart. "Ah, I appreciate the flattery, but you're correct! I'm not human," He answered him, finding no point in dodging around the fact. William connected the dots and he wouldn't deny the fact... though at the back of his mind, he realized he needed to be careful how much of his magical abilities he showed him. [break][break]
Summoning light was specific to Heaven, and some Earth species... but not those of Hell. If he performed any shadow magic, that would be a clear sign that he was Fallen, and Nolan didn't want to reveal such an identity. It posed as a threat and since moving to Lorsette, being anonymous with a clean slate was what felt best.[break][break]
"And, I'm guessing you're not human either," Nolan went on before a charming gleam shifted in his eyes with a developing playfulness within his gaze, "Usually humans don't sparkle so enchantingly as you are right now. I have to admit, it's quite pretty, but I was beginning to wonder if a terror somehow managed to hit me in the head and was causing my vision to go crazy on me,"

William's eyes continued to look his new friend up and down out of curiosity. The sudden realization exciting the young blond greatly. It wasn't as if Nolan was the first person to see his aura. The fae had always remarked how beautiful it was. And when he had first arrived to the city several of the TRS warlocks had given him the same strange look Nolan had just a few moments ago. But this was the first time someone in the city had taken notice of it. William had to know how.
And luckily he didn't have to wait long for an answer. Or at least a partial one. "Not human?" He said rather suprised by how convincing his appearance was. "So your magic earlier. That isnt human magic?" There was a slight giddiness to his voice, clearly intrigued greatly by their conversation.
The teen didn't even care that their journey had come to a sudden stop. The two simply chatting away on the street corner. The fear and stress from his earlier encounter completely gone by this point. Instead replaced by a genuine fascination with his savior. But the focus of their conversation shifted as Nolan seemed to realize the same fact about himself. He raised one hand to cover his lips as he lightheartedly laughed at the teens joke. "I suppose that is a complicated answer." He said, his smile turning to a slightly more serious expression. "I was human once. When I was much younger. But I had a sickness... The fae, they saved my life." He spoke with a slight hesitation. Knowing fully well that he shouldn't really be sharing such information. But he felt comfortable around the young man, like he could trust him.
The reveal of he, himself, not being human elevated William's excitement. His intrigue was visible in his body language, his face, his tone. This guy was pretty interested and Nolan, while being fairly flattered by how this young man showed such excitement over it, felt a subtle subconscious pull. A pull of remembrance of the fact that what he actually was... wasn't anything to rejoice over. It was a reminder as well of the glory he once received from others for the white pure feathers upon his fact, having turned to ash. His smile lessened but beneath it he hid his actual burdens well. It was a mechanism for survival and a reality that no matter how much he tried to push away and ignore, he had to accept. [break][break]
His hands remained warming themselves inside his sweatshirt pockets, standing at the corner of the street near where a stop sign had been located albeit no traffic surfaced around them. William laughed from his joke, mildly boosting Nolan's mood as his smile once more warmed. This guy seemed like a nice person. Had the world been different without Fallen Angels being targeted by bounty hunters, and ridiculed by those whom despised one who'd fallen from grace, he may have been more willing to share his full self with him.... he missed being completely honest with others.[break][break]
William shared that he was a Fae-kin, having been born human before being turned by the Fae in order to save his life. Nolan gave a listening small nod, catching the hesitancy in his voice. "That must have been rough to go through. I'm sorry to hear you struggled with illness as a child," He encouraged sympathetically, and with open-mindedness, before his gaze warmed, "But, hey, that Fae magic must have done wonders. You're here now, and look pretty damn healthy and good if you ask me," The rituals behind turning into a Faekin were intense with some being more gruesome than others. He learned about it during his summer training campers, along with several other species origins. [break][break]
He didn't know the full-story of William's turning but didn't prod him about it. Nor did he judge him. To save one's life sometimes took drastic measures and Nolan had felt what it was like to be unfairly shunned. He would never want to make someone else's feel the same way. He understood it.[break][break]
After expressing his own species, the fair-haired gentleman reasonably desired for a similar reciprocation. Immediately his stomach felt heavy and worry gripped at his heart, arising an uncertain hint of emotion behind the mask of his friendly smile. His gaze panned off towards the street. "O-oh, me? Well..." He begun, almost stalling for time as he mulled over his thoughts. Leaning back on his heels, the young man rocked on his feet before impishly grinning as a game came to mind that served as a defensive mechanism against his inner conflicts. "Hmmmm, how about, we make this a game. Take a guess!" He decided. With a side-tilt of his head to look in William's direction, he added, "You get two hints,"

It was nothing less than relieving to the young man to have someone to confide in. His impression of the young man becoming more grand by the minute. After all he had been so selfless in saving him. Combined with confidence and kindness. It was almost too good to be true. He wished that he could go back to the headquarters and tell the agents. That he could convince them not everyone in the city was possibly out to get him. However he knew better, not only to protect the young man. But also himself. After all he couldn't really go telling them he had snuck out.
Hearing his companions response he nodded softly. Happy his assumption was right at how well he took the information. "Its fine.. I honestly dont remember it too much. I was quite young." He gently smiled toward the young man, hoping to ease the tension. Only nodding as the teen complimented the young blond. His expression didn't last long though as Nolans words sunk in a little bit. A slight look of befuddlement coming across his features, before being replaced by a slight red hue in his cheeks. "T..thanks." He said slightly embarrassed.
After composing himself once more his attention snapped back toward Nolan. The teen obviously somewhat discouraged by his question. He felt slightly disappointed that the young man wasn't willing to tell, but also understood his hesitation. Until finally he responded, albeit not in the way William would have preferred. "A game? Well that isnt fair." He said with a slight pout, simultaneously crossing his arms up next to his chest. "Well... you already claimed you are not human." He said taking another step toward the teen, as if being closer would give him more insight. Now just mere inches apart William's eyes narrowed, squinting slightly as he examined the teens features for any sign or clue. "Well you definitely are no fae.." He quietly said. Clearly taking Nolans bait despite his protest.
Now that the two were so close William's aura practically surrounded the two. Filling the air with a slight warmth, even when there was none in the evening breeze. The gold continuing to flutter away from the teen. Each speck that collided with Nolan would seem to dissipate like a snowflake. Yet not without without giving the sensation of a very slight spark. Yet not a unpleasant one, as they would almost feel invigorating.
Oblivious to William's belated realization of the context of his words, Nolan had unfortunately missed the red hue accompanying his cheeks, though he did hear the stammer of his embarrassed thanking. This caused for an amused but genuine growing of a smile, uplifting one side higher than the other. Ever since meeting William, he found the young man to be endearing and unique. Even the way they meet was quite different and one encounter he'd never forgot. A part of him wondered if they would see each other again in this city, if by chance. He had yet to gain a grasp on how populated the area truly was. [break][break]
Thankfully, the fair-haired Fae went along with his game. Nolan was uncertain how he'd otherwise be able to put off such a reveal... without being suspicious. He disliked being dishonest and didn't want to lie to William when the man had been truthful with him. He, however, was unsure if he even wanted William to know what he was... it was selfish, but also embedded deeply within him as a fear after the loss and emotional torment he was put through. The pouting in William's gaze lightened Nolan's own expression for a moment, before his eyes instantly widened as the distance between them was shortened greatly.[break][break]
They were very close... he could nearly see a hundred miniscule golden glitters whirling about the aura surrounding him that he hadn't seen before. Such an aura engulfed the both of them, surrounding the two in a brilliant shimmer.... matched with the intense shade of the Fae's emerald eyes that attentively was studying him, Nolan was actually overwhelmed and made sheepish-- which was a big rarity for him. He couldn't help but to nervously chuckle, raising a hand to rub at the back of his neck as an uncertain smile took place. His eyes shifted off towards the side while laughing, "A-ah, nope, no Fae in my family tree as far as I'm aware of..!" [break][break]
He cleared his throat. "I'll give you the first hint--" Thoughts circulated in a compromising rotation of what hint to unveil. He didn't want to give away too much but he had to give him something. His palm lowered away from his neck, light brown eyes meeting with William's. His smile left him with only the hinted remnants at the corner of his lips, an almost serious demeanor shrouding him. Twinkles of gold continued their intense roaming around them. "When I was a kid, I had dreams of someday being one with the sun," His tone was smoother than his previous playful and extroverted comments. It may have been symbolic, if not even bordering on the territory of being poetic more so than factual in essence, but Nolan couldn't make it too easy on him.... and the statement was in fact true. He had always dreamed of flying so high, he could swim along the clouds... but little did that young boy know he would grow up to be like Icarus who melted from the very sun he aspired to shine like.

William actually felt proud of himself for being able to deduce as much as he had so far. Mostly because his exposure to other magical beings was so limited. Being that he wasn't actually an agent the TRS databases were largely off limits to him. And out of safety's sake the only guards allowed to watch the young man were human. Though the fae had told him a little about the other species. More broad generalizations than anything. There were the humans and their grandiose concrete jungles. The demons, with their horns. The Angel's with their wings, and the undead with their smell. Although with a quick glance and a sniff William felt more helpless than ever. As none of those traits described Nolan whatsoever. His brow furrowed, a small mumble echoing from his closed lips.
He didn't even realize he had been invading the teens personal space until his companion replied to his first observation. And as he noticed the slight axciousnes William leaned back to a more comfortable position for the two. Yet not breaking his gaze, still searching for any hint he could.
When the teen began speaking again William's lips slowly began to up turn into a smile. Clearly not taking to long to become amused with Nolan's little game."Oh how cryptic..He said tilting his head slightly. "Well judging by your radiant magic you must not be far off." he said with a slight chuckle. It didn't take long for William's curiosity to get the better of him though. The young man slowly trying his best to peak over the teens shoulder and around his back. "And my second hint?" He said positively excited for his next clue to the teens species.
Amusement visibly colored the features of William's face and his comment about his magic resulted in a small smirk, and slight shrug of his shoulders, once more rocking on the back of his heels slowly... and trying to keep up a poker face. He didn't want to accidentally slip-up through the language of his eyes or his expression if the Fae happened to guess something very close to his true identity. [break][break]
He stopped in his idle slight rocking, upon William checking his back... no sign of his wings were present. The fair-haired young man didn't come to any conclusion regarding his species and asked for a secondary hint. "So soon?" He asked him with a playful smile, his voice once more smooth in tone as he gazed upon him, "Well..." A quiet hum in thought left the teen.... before seeing something very distinct rapidly zooming closer and closer to William from behind. There was no time to react using magic as the monster appeared to be on a very stubborn mission, with violence luring in the glow red of its eyes.[break][break]
"LOOK OUT!" He shouted, quickly grabbing William by the shoulders and launching the two of them out of harm's way, stumbling towards the ground. A shadowy black Terror, larger than the ones they'd encountered before in the alley, came soaring right through where they'd just been standing with a malicious echoing snicker leaving its exterior.

It clearly didn't take much convincing from the teen for the young man to be completely focused on his little game. Although William did wish he was a little less of a tease. Leading him on in such a way. Upon closer inspection of the guys back he didn't notice any feathers. Nor horns, or a tail, or anything of the sort that may give him away. "Well you aren't making it easy for me." He said with a giggle. Clearly waiting with baited breath for Nolan to speak up again.
As he began to speak William noticed his eyes dart away as he pondered his next hint. His eyes growing wide in revelation. No, suprise. No, panic.
Everything seemed to slow down, the young blond preparing to ask what was wrong. When Nolan cried out to him first. The guys quick movements toward him causing a panic of his own. "Nolan wait!" He said quite seriously, but it was too late to stop it. 'Focus, focus focus!' He thought to himself, his eyes clenching shut as he felt the teen grip on to his shoulders. Luckily having just a moment to try and prepare himself. There was a slight pop in the air as the two fell toward the ground. Thin ropes off golden energy arking between nolans fingers as he held on. The sensation likely causing an instantaneous reaction of goosebumps across his body.
As the two hit the ground William felt his companion sprawled on top of him. He let out a soft groan in confusion. His eyes opening slightly to see what the fuss was about. However the sight of the terror before him made the young man wish he hadn't opened them."N..Nol..." His heart skipped a beat, and any semblance of focus he had left was gone. His body seemed to let out an involuntary gasp as it felt like a massive pressure had been released. The air around the two teens seemed to hum with an unnatural tone. The golden bands of light becoming more pronounced as they sparked and jumped between each point the teens were in contact. The force of the energy would come on quickly. Almost enveloping the teen entirely with a sense of power that continued to fluctuate. At first feeling mildly warm, then comfortable, before becoming exhilarating. And finally borderline intoxicating.
What followed the impact of falling onto the ground, was a momentary sensation of relief of hearing the Terror gliding through where they'd been standing... a missed target, thank goodness. The adrenaline once more begun surging within him as Nolan tried to sit himself up from where he'd taken down William with him. [break][break]
However, as he lifted his head, an odd vision of sparkling gold threads similar to the color of William's magical aura had woven itself between his fingers that had grasped the other male's shoulders. Emerald eyes slowly opened, eye contact being made... before a tingling rush came over Nolan as the aura of golden energy had not only tied its way around his hands, but also loomed over him in an intoxicating cloud. [break][break]
The strength of its presence managed to gradually but very quickly numb Nolan to many of his senses, his eyes widening in confusion, surprise.... and something he wasn't quite sure what it was. It caught him off guard and his mouth slightly opened.... face warming in a light red coloring. "A-are... are you, uh...." He struggled to shake himself out of it, but his lack of preparation of what was to come rendered him a victim to its overpowering aura and golden sparking bands, "Y-you... okay....?"[break][break]
A sinister echoing groan arose not far away from the terror, whom had begun powering up a purple glow within its demeanor as though preparing to charge right at them. Nolan, unfortunately, was all but unable to come back to mindfulness as his eyes harbored down towards William in a daze.

William never should have came into the city at night. Shouldn'thave left without permission. He knew something like this could have happened. Yet he foolishly ignored the warnings the TRS had given him. And now he had not only put himself in danger, but the other teen as well. His eyes grew wide as Nolan looked down toward him. William's raw magic still sparking between the two with little signs of stopping.
He could recognize the dumbfounded look across the teens face anywhere. Having little time to react he was feeling the brunt of William's magic. And without any warning it likely was quite shocking to the young man, both in the literal and metaphorical sense. And as Nolan spoke up he realized he was right, the teen struggling to even form a cohesive sentence.
He had to think fast, the terror just yards away, and his bodyguard practically drugged up. His heart started racing and he gulped sure what he was about to do was probably the worst decision. He leaned forward and pushed the teen away to break their contact. His eyes meeting Nolan's as he hoped the teen was coherent enough to understand him. "Nolan you need to run. It wont chase you." He said trying his best to cover up his fear with a smile. Before scurrying to his feet, dashing down the sidewalk in the opposite direction of the young man. The terror seemed to take notice almost immediately, its crimson eyes snapping to the blond with a look of determination. 'At least now i can save him...' William thought to himself as he sprinted, his heart pounding through his chest. His ears ringing. Not daring to look over his shoulder at the beast on his tail.
Before his senses could entirely be numbed away and closed off from himself, Nolan was pushed away from the Fae, stumbling backwards and having only been cushioned by the backdrop of a closed-shop's wall exterior. He flinched, a pounding occurring within his head from the sudden change in aura around him... a hand rose to hold his head where it'd pounded, eyes wincing in confusion. He heard William's voice call out, telling him to run... but it only a few moments later when the reality of everything had set in and Nolan was snapped out of his daze.[break][break]
The pounding, too, stopped in his head and Nolan blinked his eyes a couple times. "Wh-what the hell... happened..." He groaned to himself, rubbing his head a little more, before seeing in the distance William running for his life... and the terror racing after him. His dreary eyes widened in a returning alertness. No longer was he phased out from the world and now, everything was once more clear to him. The fair-haired boy was once more in danger and had tried to steer the terror away from Nolan by making himself the open target.[break][break]
"Crap..." Nolan grit his teeth and bolted into a run. 'There's no way I'm going to leave him on his own to try out-running that maniac,' He thought in determination. Keeping up on his exercise regime paid off and allowed him the endurance and stamina necessary to not burn out from the onslaught of action. Deep down, Nolan knew of a simpler way to get the both of them out of harm's way... he could use his swings to sweep up William and fly them over to the TRS headquarters.... but he knew that it was too much of a risk. He couldn't afford for anyone to see the obsidian feathers of his wings, not even William.[break][break]
A portal of light summoned on the ground in front of him and upon Nolan dashing through, his hand reached down and grabbed a curved blade-shaped beam that he sent hurling at the Terror. It spun through the air and sliced over the top of the creature, sending a spitting whiz of shadow aura from the creature as it shrieked. Another portal appeared whilst Nolan ran, grabbing yet another throwing knife and sending it at the creature. Think, think....! Nolan fought through his mind to come up with something to take care of their problem.... before, an idea finally hit him. "William!" Nolan shouted, summoning a large whirling portal of light far up ahead, "Get the terror to run through that!" The portal would turn into a cage the moment a victim went through it.

As the blood rushed to William's head his breathing started to become strained. The cold air biting at his lungs with each inhale. His vision starting to blur as his body begged for him to stop. It was enough that he had already experienced a tremendous adrenaline rush just earlier. But now his body was running on empty, just pure fear and determination driving the young man forward. He was certain The beast would chase after him. After all it was attracted to his aura. Not only that but he had no idea how much magic he had given the other teen. Unsure if he would snap out of it within a few moments, or minutes.
Whatever the case William knew he was doing the right thing. Removing himself from the situation was the only way to keep Nolan safe. The blond being at fault for all the misfortune that had befallen the teen until now. He managed to crack a smile despite his current predicament, happy he had at least made one right decision. However his mood quickly changed as a bolt of light seemed to rocket through the air over his shoulder. Accompanied quickly after by a shrill call from the terror.
He glanced over his shoulder, still sprinting with all his might. Suprised as he noticed his savior still determined to help him. He could hardly believe it, the young man continuing to suprise him at every turn. He hardly could even make out what the teen was shouting at him between the heavy drumb of his heartbeat. His attention snapping back to the street in front of him just in time to notice the large glowing portal.
His heart skipped a beat, the world slowing down. One foot falling in front of the other, pivoting the young man as quickly as he could muster. Every muscle in his legs screaming at him. His knees bent slightly, and with every bit of effort he had left he lept. His body flew backward, the terror quickly on his heals. William just a foot away from the portal, passing slightly adjacent. However the terror's momentum carried it straight intothe glowing light. William could hardly believe it, his eyes growing wide at the sight. 'I did it...' He thought to himself as he felt one foot begin to touch down on the pavement. He let out a little laugh in disbelief. He quickly tried to move his other leg to catch his balance, only for it not to respond. The teen not having enough energy to even put out his hands to stop his fall.
His entire body, or at least what he could still feel seemed like it was on fire. As he collided with the pavement the cold concrete actually felt soothing to the young man. And as a slight blackness began to overtake his vision he glanced back down the street toward nolan, feeling like perhaps just a quick nap wouldn't be too bad. The young man almost instantly passing out from exhaustion.
With anticipation and exhilaration, Nolan came to sliding halt on his feet, watching as William attempted his soaring jump back and away from the summoned portal he'd been running toward.... and the sight caused his heart to race. There was not enough time for him to intervene nor fully articulate his own thoughts while watching the other male take his leap of faith. His gamble with life.... and Nolan didn't know what on earth he'd be able to do had the individual fallen into the trap he'd set up through the whirling pool of radiating light magic. It's energy was very bright and strong, intending to both trap and rid of the terror that was practically gaining on the boy's heels while he ran.[break][break]
Everything flashed by in a matter of seconds. William successfully launched himself in a sudden change of course, avoiding the whizzing pool of light, and had done so fast enough to where the terror hadn't predicted his movement. Nor did the creature seem to realize what had resided up ahead, blinded in its nonsensical rage of devouring the boy's essence. Blazing but a second after William leaped backwards, the terror came crashing right through the perimeter of the portal.[break][break]
Immediately the light flashed brightly, consuming the terror in a blindingly bright radiation as it squealed out in an ethereal pain. What appeared once the blinding rays diminished into its previous glow was the magic-infused cage surrounding the terror. The creature shrieked in fury but was unable to break itself free... before the cage itself begun closing into the monster. A loud zapping sound echoed as the light infused through the terror and blinked out of existence, leaving nothing but a visible burn mark where the trap had once resided.[break][break]
Shock vividly transpired upon Nolan's expression.... amazed by how everything played out.... before he gave a triumphant punch to the air. "YES!! THAT WAS GREAT!" He shouted out in a cheer, unable to hide his excitement. It was just like his days at training camp, and those crazy adventures he went on while sneaking out of camp territory late into the night hours. The adrenaline, danger, and then afterward thrill of overcoming whatever obstacle had come his way. "WE DID IT!" He laughed out in another cheering manner, before William had suddenly dropped to the ground. This caught Nolan by complete surprise, wiping away from the big smile from his face as he started running over. "William!" When he came up to his body, the boy fell onto his knees as he gave him a slight shake to try and stir him, "Hey, hey, look up at me... are you okay?"

Usually sleep was quite plesant for William. Filled with fond memories of the fae. Fascinating things he had seen in the city. Or even the occasional glimpse of his parents. Even nightmares weren't always that uncommon. But always a dream. And yet how he found himself now he wouldn't really call either.
Everything around him was emptiness that seemed to stretch on into infinity. His body sprawled there, as if laying on a surface that didn't quite exist. His limbs feeling like they were weighed down by an intangible mud. Clinging to his arms, keeping them firmly rooted to the nothingness. It wasn't unpleasant, as a matter of fact it wasn't anything really. If anything staying here felt natural to the young man. Until the serenity was broken by a golden light that immediately drew his attention. And almost like a wind it danced before him. Softly bounding up down and inside and out of itself. And then through the young man, cascading around his body and through it simultaneously.
As William was shook there was a slight spark. The golden light returning underneath Nolan's had as he tried to nudge the teen awake. Although it was much less prominent than before, the teens exhausted state having an effect on his connection to his magic. The noise and movement obviously having an effect on the teen though as he let out a groan. His body rolling on to its side with considerable effort.
He began to wake up, lids hanging lazily and only revealing a portion of the teens emerald eyes. "Nolan?" He said with heavy breaths, a blurry image of his friend slowly coming in to focus. "We really got it..." He said as he tried not to immediately fall back asleep. Even with such little energy left William managed to smile up at the dusty haired teen. "I think I want to go back to my room now.."
