Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Alec woke with a start, quickly taking note of the unfamiliar surroundings. Feeling as though he had a fever, his thoughts were sluggish, and his movements even more so. He'd definitely overdone it. Even if he couldn't quite recall what 'it' was, at that moment, his memory just as foggy as his thoughts. There was someone else in the room that he vaguely recognized, but didn't know by name. It was an uncomfortable situation, all around. Groaning, he brought his hands up to rub at his face, as if that would help him organize his thoughts, the events prior slowly coming back to him. He'd gone to the bar for a drink or two. Had he gotten too drunk? No, that wasn't it. This wasn't a hangover. He'd met someone... Someone handsome. Not the person in the room. Ah, Urijah... An Undead. Knowing himself well enough to figure out what had happened from there, Alec breathed a soft sigh, relaxing just a bit now that he had the gist of it. He'd definitely just gotten too ahead of himself, thinking he could bare hanging out with an Undead. Clearly it hadn't gone well, but at least he was alive. Brushing his hair out of his face and struggling to sit up, he looked to the other in the room, now recognizing him as Urijah's driver. So the room he was in was likely Urijah's house... Maybe? It didn't look like a hospital, after all. Maybe a guest room? "Um... Is Urijah here? Can I talk to him?" He asked, feeling rather awkward. He'd never just passed out on someone, before... The Undead definitely wouldn't want to be near him, now.
Urijah couldn't help but remain in his thoughts while Alec was unconscious in the hotel room. He was leaning against the wall, not paying any mind to anybody else walking down the halls to go into their own bedrooms. He was too focused on his thoughts to notice the talking going on, in the bedroom. I should have been more cautious, letting him join me in the car was a huge mistake. I'll have to find a way to excuse myself without possibly upsetting him, but this isn't a good relationship, not when he gets ill nearby me.... The driver had noticed Alec woke up, he went to tend to him. "Master Fraiser is just outside the room." He answered, hoping that Alec wasn't planning on getting out of bed. "I'm afraid not, he gave me strict orders to refuse if you asked." He would answer, leaning closer. "It is because he doesn't want you getting more sick around him...." He whispered, hoping that Urijah hadn't heard them talking. The driver would glance towards the door, as if half expecting Urijah to come into the room but he didn't.
Urijah sighed as he leaned against the wall. There would be no easy way to tell Alec that he couldn't hang around him anymore. Knowing him, he would just do the opposite anyway. What did he say, I would have to do something to him first? Impossible.... I really don't want to. He would glance towards the door, curious on if Alec was awake yet or not. Within a few minutes the door had opened and the driver was standing there to tell him that Alec was awake. He would slowly move passed the driver to enter the room, keeping his distance from Alec he would move towards the window to open it before standing against it. Maybe having it open would make Alec less likely to get sick. "I think it would be in your best interest to cut contact with me."
As he was informed that the driver had been ordered not to be allowed contact with Urijah, Alec groaned, slumping back against the bed and crossing his arms over his chest in a pouty manner. The following whispered explanation didn't help. He already knew the why, after all, he just didn't agree with it. Now that he was awake and he'd had plenty of time away from the Undead, his contion was steadily improving. The natural vitality of an Elf. He continued pouting, then, not sure what to say to get his way at that moment. How was he supposed to convince Urijah the racial incompatibility wouldn't be a big deal, not that he'd passed out like that? He wasn't ready to give up, but he didn't know how to proceed, and it was just frustrating as all hell. Caught up in his thoughts, he only returned to the present when he took note of the driver heading towards the door, likely to inform Urijah that he was awake. As he saw the blue-haired male making his way into the room, he immediately tried to look as though he was just fine, and not severely ill at all. As Urijah headed for the window, instead of his bedside, however, the pout returned. He wasn't even going to risk getting close to him, again, was he? in the following comment from the man, Alec's pouty expression shifted more to annoyance, before he paused, took a breather, and grinned. "That's funny, because I think it would be in my best interest to do exactly not that." He retorted, moving to sit up again, and then to stand from the bed, now that he had more strength in his limbs. "Look, I kind of overdid it a little this time, sure, but... What would be the point in cutting contact with you? I mean, it's not like I'm going to cut contact with all of my other Undead friends. I'll still be getting sick on occasion... Is it fine, as long as it's not because of you?" He spoke, standing with his arms crossed, but keeping a proper distance so that they could talk without the anxiety. "Because that would be pretty selfish, and I won't stand for it. I want to be friends with you. I won't overdo it, again, so... Just give up on pushing me away, and let it happen."
Urijah watched Alec's pouty expression turn to annoyance from his comment. I can't back down, this is the best thing for the both of us. Alec's grin made him feel uneasy when he told him that he would be doing exactly the opposite of what he had told him. He would sigh, side glancing because looking in Alec's direction right now would just made him feel impressed at how daring he was being right back at him. He would notice moment in the corner of his eye and look back towards the bed to see that Alec had moved from the bed before standing up. He sighed when Alec admitted there were other undead that he would hang around. "That is your choice as this is mine." He answered, frustrated that he couldn't cut Alec's contact with the other undead. He should be healthy, not getting sick because he was being so stubborn. "No it isn't fine!" That answer had come out wrong, "I mean for you to be getting sick in general but especially with me as being the cause behind it." He would frown when Alec proved once more how stubborn he could be.
"Selfish or not, it is the best thing to do." He was okay with being deemed as selfish. It was in his right to care about Alec's well being, wasn't it? I think I'm over stepping here, even so.... I have a right to avoid causing him to get sick any further. He sighed when Alec said how he wanted to be friends with him, oh how he wanted to be friends with him too but it was impossible. Alec was trying to convince him to give it up but he just wasn't going to let this go. "No. I won't be a reason for you to get sick." He answered, wishing nothing more for the tables to have been turned. At least then he could take Alec's suffering of being sick away from him. He remained near the window, debating on if being in the room with Alec was healthy for him or not.
"Well, your choice is faulty, and I think this would be a lot less frustrating for the both of us, if you would try to look at things a different way." Alec spoke with a sigh, shaking his head. "I don't like being shoved into a safety bubble, Urijah. It's just not how I live. I take a lot of risks in my day to day life, simply because I don't like little things stopping me from living however I want." "I get that you would prefer I didn't do that, and that I wouldn't interact with certain others if it means falling ill, but.. Isn't that just sad? I've got a long life ahead of me, and relationships come and go. Friends, lovers... Everyone I care for, there will come a day where a conversation with them will be the last one, and I won't even know it." Taking a deep breath as he neared the end of his rant, his brows furrowed in frustration. "I don't want this to be our last conversation, Urijah. We just met, and you're trying to evict me from your life. Over something I can't even change. That sort of thing-- I can't stand it." He concluded, brushing a lock of hair from his face and crossing his arms back over his chest. "If it's what you want-- reaaally want-- I'll go. I won't be happy about it, but I'll let you keep your peace of mind, and leave you alone. Is that what you want, Urijah?"
Urijah listened to Alec explain that his choice was faulty. On the one hand, he wanted Alec to be happy, but it wouldn't do Alec any good if he was getting sick all the time. Alec was right, it was his choice to decide on how he wanted to live his life, he didn't have a right to tell him how to live it, even if it was in his best interest. "What is the point of the long life if you run the risk of dying!" He answered back, unsure why he felt so strongly about Alec's health. They had only just met and he wanted nothing more than for him to live a long and happy life. Is this a crush? Feelings.... what am I feeling right now? I think caring doesn't give enough credit to my emotions right now. He thought to himself, sighing because it seemed like this argument was going nowhere. This argument, it was strange having it because they had just met, but it felt like it gave him purpose. He was pulled from his thoughts when Alec mentioned how he didn't want this to be their last conversation.
Does he.... does he think I want to do this? I don't want this to be our last conversation either but I.... I don't want him getting sick because he chooses to be around me either. I want him to live on... He pouted when Alec made it seem like it was his fault over the undead thing. "There are so many other people... but you choose to be around those that make you sick too." He looked away, feeling like his emotions were slowly building up, on the verge of boiling over. Alec's words range into his ears. He couldn't bring himself to say it, but he needed him to know that this relationship was going to be more harmful then good. "I'll never have a peace of mind." He mumbled, turning away from the window, he quickly rushed towards the hotel door, opening it before walking outside. The faster he got away from Alec, the faster the elf could forget about him.
This is going to suck and I'm going to regret it for the rest of my life. It took a lot of effort to keep walking. I can't do it.... parting ways with him is just too hard....
"I'm not going to die. I make questionable choices, not suicidal choices." Alec huffed with a sigh, moving his hands to rest against his hips as he furrowed his brows at the other man. It was clear neither one of them were doing much in the way of convincing the other. They were just talking around in circles. Maybe in situations like this, talking just wasn't the way to go. But then, what was? It was a man he had literally just met hours prior, but it frustrated him beyond everything to be told they couldn't be friends. Why? Why care that much? The other Undead he knew, knew to keep a distance from him, but they still remained his friends. Maybe the issue was the fact that he hadn't wanted to keep a distance from Urijah... His insistance on sticking close had only made all of this more difficult for himself. But still... Did Urijah really think he would risk dying if he continued with his clinging? Alec wasn't weak by any means... Sure he'd passed out, but he was just fine after some time away from the other man. He just had to learn to be clingy in small doses with the Undead, and he would be okay. It annoyed him that he wasn't being given that chance to figure out a good balance. As Urijah spoke that he'd never have peace of mind, Alec's expression fell, unsure how to reply. It was true, then, that he was just causing the man unnecessary stress. But, still... Watching as the man fled, he could only watch after him for the moment. All logic was telling him at this point that it simply would be best to just walk away, as well, and leave the other be. But he didn't like that logic. Grunting in frustration, Alec headed for the door, moving after Urijah. "I'm not going to leave you alone unless you actually answer me!"
Urijah pouted at Alec, it seemed they wouldn't be able to agree about this. He knew that Alec was well aware of his actions and how it could be viewed as him running his risk to chance death. If one lingered around undeads they would get sick and if it happened to much their body would become weaker and then die. It was as simple as that and he didn't want Alec to die, nor around him or any other undead for that matter but Alec was going to chose what ever he wanted to do, his words weren't about to stop him. It was a struggle, telling Alec what he should do, when he wanted to tell him the complete opposite. He wanted to tell him to stick around, be his friend. It was nice having somebody to confined in, not to mention Alec was handsome. Oh if fate hadn't been so cruel as to throw him, an undead, in Alec's direction. Or at the very least, made it so that Alec wouldn't get sick around undeads in general. Shortly after he made his comment, he had fled from the room. Half expecting Alec to take that as a sign to leave, but he didn't want him to leave. He wanted him to stay, that was the reason he didn't give him an answer right?
Because he really didn't want to leave his side. He turned to hear Alec behind him, proving that he wasn't done with him just yet. The words seemed to sink in quite clearly. So if I don't give you an answer, you'll think I still expect distance but chose not to give it because I didn't give an answer, right? With a sigh, a small smile had slightly formed onto his face. He knew that he was going to regret this but, Alec was just so damn cute when he was being so determined. He couldn't just let him go, besides it wasn't like him not answering was harming anybody. Not if he moved away to give Alec distance each time he tried closing it. "So in other words, if I remain quiet, that question goes unanswered.... and we'll be like this for a while..." He wasn't asking, he wanted Alec to know if he expected an answer anytime soon, he could forget it. If he needed to give him distance, he'd do it by force. With any luck, Alec wouldn't accept his action and follow him around anyway.
Upon hearing the comment, Alec blinked, pausing in his steps. It was pretty obvious at that point what the man was doing. He didn't want to answer because he didn't actually want him to leave... How cute. Alec smirked, then, bringing a hand up to hide it. Though Urijah wasn't going to admit it, he had won this round. "Mm, right. I'm not going anywhere unless you answer me, so as long as you keep quiet, I'm gonna be right here and there's nothing you can do about it." He confirmed, playing along as he resumed following the other. "So-- What is this place? I thought it was your house at first, but... A hotel?" He questioned, looking around at the halls as they walked. Hotel or not, it looked super expensive. He wondered what the workers had thought of them bringing an unconscious person up to the room. "Hey~ Are you hungry?" He asked, then, grinning. He, himself, was starved, so if it gave him an excuse to do something with Urijah, he'd take it. Wait, did Undead even eat? What kind of Undead was the man, in the first place? There was still so much he didn't know.
Urijah had noticed Alec smirking, even though he had brought his hand up to hide it. I saw that... He would look away, trying to get that smile to fall from his face because they were supposed to be having a serious conversation. One where Alec needed to understand that if he wasn't going to get sick, distance was required. It was hard though, if he wanted Alec to be safe he would have to say those words and he wasn't willing to give him up, he liked having him around. A smile of defeat remained on his face when Alec confirmed what he already knew, it was still a relief to hear it. Well there is something I can do about it.... I can still move the other direction but well get to that. He thought to himself, being pulled from his thoughts when Alec had answered his question. "It is a hotel." He answered, noticing that Alec had been looking around. I had a house prior to moving but that is a long story that I doubt you'd want to hear about. He was once more pulled from his thoughts when Alec had asked him if he was hungry.
I don't get hungry but I see what you are trying to do here. His defeated smile had changed into a genuine smile. "I don't eat, ever since I died it hasn't been a requirement.... I only drank because I was in the mood for it." He confessed, proving that he didn't need to drink either. Oh yes, still an undead even if he did love to drink. "Though if your hungry, we can go somewhere." He suggested, figuring that it was highly possible that Alec had asked because he himself was hungry. Within reason, I just have to be better observant so that I don't make him sick. Again. He reminded himself as he glanced towards Alec. "Undeads in general don't need food, it isn't just a me thing." He wasn't sure why he just admitted that, for some reason he felt a great need in telling Alec just in case he didn't know. When he got sick, he wanted to rush to the bathroom. Maybe I should rush to the bathroom before he can.... then not leave because frankly he'd get sick if he got too close anyway.
Seeing Urijah's continued uncertainty, Alec wore a calm smile, casually linking his arms behind his back as he walked a few feet behind the man. "Come on, there's no need to be so serious. I promise to keep a proper distance this time, but we can still hand out and chat, right?" He pointed out, then chuckling as he took note of his defeated smile. He'd take that as a victory. "A hotel, huh? Really nice one, though." He commented, still looking around as he walked. Everything looked so ornate. "Ohh, I figured as much..." He added with a nod at the confirmation that the Undead didn't need food. "Ah, yeah, let's go somewhere! --that's okay, right? I feel like it would be kind of rude to eat in front of someone who doesn't." Trailing off, Alec pondered the subject, then looking back to Urijah. "Haha, you still have that suspicious look on your face. What're you plotting now, Uri~?" The elf teased, knowing it likely had something to do with his own well-being. How cute. "I promised, okay? I won't let myself get sick again. If I start feeling ill, I'll excuse myself to recuperate. --But don't leave if I do that, okay?"
Urijah knew that Alec had won this round, there would be no point in arguing about it. He would just have to give Alec distance without permission. At least then he could honestly say that he never agreed for Alec to leave even though frankly he would still be keeping his distance. He found himself looking at the hotel, thinking he had been in better but wasn't about to go complaining about it in front of Alec. Besides if he wanted something better, he would have bothered buying a house, but after selling the last one, he couldn't bring himself to go house searching. "If we go somewhere, you'd still be eating in front of me." He teased, "Though I don't mind, I got used to not eating a long time ago." If he let every small thing bother him, he'd go crazy. Witnesses would join him for lunch all the time as they briefly talked about the case. In his eyes, it was his way of life now. Besides if he wanted to, eating wouldn't be a problem, he just didn't need to eat to survive.
"Unless you wanted me to eat.... I suppose I could find something off the menu." He lightly scratched his neck, having not ordered from any menu in some time. He was pulled from his thoughts when Alec called him out. A small smirk appeared on his face. "You'll just have to wait and see." To Alec's promise, he thought to himself how he would exit first so that Alec wouldn't have to. "I suppose you'll just have to keep your eyes on me." He joked, meaning if he did managed to get up first that Alec make sure that he didn't have another exit because he'd so beat him to the bathroom. "Or become a fast runner, which ever is easier." He teased, wishing nothing more then being closer to Alec.
"Ah, yeah, that's true." Alec replied with a nod, bringing a hand up to his chin as he thought. Urijah said he wouldn't mind, so he was sure it would be fine, but still. "--Oh, there's no need for that if you'd rather not. I just got a little distracted thinking about it. There's probably quite a few races in this world that don't need to eat, huh... Well, not food, at least." He pondered, idly running his fingers through his hair as he tried again to fix the messiness from when he had been sleeping. Realizing his hairband from the night before was around his wrist, he decided to put it back to use, swiftly bringing his long hair back up into a ponytail. At least it would be less apparent that he hadn't had access to a brush. As Urijah teased him in turn, saying he should keep his eyes on him, Alec gave a cheeky smirk, toying with a blonde lock that had managed to avoid getting pulled back by the hairband. It was difficult to get so much hair to behave. "Ohh, I don't think I'll have any trouble doing that." He teased in a flirtatious tone, then grinning as he barely managed to withhold himself from moving closer. "Also, I'm already a very fast runner. Sorry to say, you won't be escaping me." He joked, laughing as he walked, clearly enjoying himself despite the distance. "Mm, let's just find a simple burger joint, then. Apparently fainting makes me crave greasy foods... Places like that are good for chatting, too! Is that okay with you?"
Urijah looked at Alec with surprise, "Are you sure? I mean at least then you'd feel more comfortable." He answered, trying to make things easier for Alec. "Only the undead ones.... but there are quite a few out there." He answered, not volunteering the names of those different species. The less Alec knew, the more likely he wouldn't befriend them and would get sick less instead of more often. This would be for his own good, seeing as Alec was too stubborn to listen to advice when knowing the benefit behind it. He couldn't help but find that stubborness attitude adorable but Alec didn't need to know that. He had teased Alec, saying he'd keep his eyes on him, finding his eyes wandering to Alec's hand that had been toying with a lock of his hair before looking back towards Alec again. Alec's words seemed to dare him to try, if not for the sake of his health, the dare in itself.
"We shall see." He answered, thinking to himself how pleased he'd be if Alec could keep up with him, even though the goal was to keep his distance so that Alec wouldn't be sick around him. When Alec had started walking, Urijah followed behind him. He figured it would be easier to keep his distance if Alec was in front of him. "That is fine by me." He agreed, keeping his distance because he wanted Alec not to get sick from becoming too close to him. Interesting, I suppose it would make sense though. Not that I'd complain, I get to be around him longer. He thought to himself, having Alec lead the way.
"Ah, don't worry about something silly like that. Being the only one eating won't make me feel uncomfortable or anything. I don't want you to feel like you have to put in extra effort for my sake, especially if it's not really necessary." Alec explained with smile. On the contrary, he would just feel guilty if he realized someone was changing their behavior to benefit him. "Hey, hey. Don't you 'we shall see,' me. Don't go running off on me, you already agreed to keep me company over lunch." The blonde mused, watching as Urijah fell behind to follow him. He would have prefered to be able to see him, but he'd allow it this time, considering he was the one finding a place to eat. "Don't worry so much, I'll be much more careful to not get too sick, this time, I promise." "It's a plan, then. We should be able to find a good place around here..." He spoke, trailing off as he looked at all of the different shops along the street. There were usually a few burger joints hidden among the frey... He just had to find one. "So, then. Let's start that conversation, now. Tell me about yourself, Urijah~" "After all, you already know so much about me." He joked, grinning.
