Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] The teasing he had received from the other only flusters him, and he says nothing of the matter, simply looking away. When concerning his animal's weight, he couldn't help but wish that tigers weigh less than they should be, even though it would quite cut off the massiveness that they show whenever they are seen. Hector couldn't do anything about it, however. Tigers are tigers and that's how it's going to be, no matter what he does about it.
[break][break]Ah, I see. He sits down and purrs; his tail finally stops wagging from behind, landing softly on the ground. I would've loved to see what you had in store, but you are right... something may be unappealing to me. I'm glad you decided not to cast your "trump cards" for now.
[break][break]The other shifts back into his human form, but Hector doesn't do the same, not yet. Shifting back is too tiring, of all things. The other then puts on some eyeglasses before explaining that he and the sun don't get along well. Hector purrs in acknowledgement, looking over back to the sun-bathed city. It's certainly become quite hot, and everything's being exposed in bright light. The tiger sighs. All the more reason for you to keep your other form hidden, then. He stated, not turning his head.
[break][break]Hector was an idiot. He doesn't realize that someone nearby was watching him from the leaves with wide, petrified eyes, but both men couldn't have seen him from the thickness of the leaves.
[break][break]Yes, the overpass is fine. He closes his eyes and shifts back to his human form, smiling and walking up to the other man. "We should probably be going. We couldn't risk a trespasser seeing us here--"
[break][break]"TIGER!!" A scream comes from outside of the canopy where they are hiding; Hector instantly whips his head to where the voice had come from, and he flinched. There was no time to wonder how the man had seen him, and there was no time to wonder if the man had seen the battle they both had before everything happened.
[break][break]There was only one thing to do.
[break][break]Hector grabs the other man's wrist and looks at him with warning eyes. "Let's get the hell out of here."
[break][break]He does not wait for an answer; he would begin running away from the canopy while holding on to the other's wrist.
As shouts of a tiger rang out, Grayson looked over in curiosity towards the fleeing figure, though otherwise unphased by the yelling. It did, however, catch him off guard when Meredith suddenly grabbed his wrist to pull him along, looking panicked. He hadn't realized the tiger seemed to carry different sentiments towards his shifted form being seen. Though honestly, he could only assume that his own alternate form hadn't been seen, considering there was no yelling of a zombie wolf.
Though still unsure why running was necessary, he allowed himself to be dragged along by the wrist, at least until the other felt they'd reached a safe place to stop. It was honestly a strange situation, all around. People typically avoided getting close to him when they knew what he was, let alone touching him. That went double when they'd seen his other form. Yet, here he was, being pulled along like it was nothing.
"--You know, it's not like anyone's going to arrest you for being a shifter." Grayson mused, following along at Meredith's pace. "You're free to stop running, whenever you'd like." He continued to tease, though he clearly didn't mind. The whole ordeal was entertaining.
"Are we still heading to the overpass?" He asked curiously, wondering if the other was still up for it. He was rather antsy, himself, not used to being out alongside the sun.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] As announcements of a white tiger start to spread out, the source coming from the witness, Hector is not subjected to stop running now. He grabs Grayson by the wrist, making their way out of the canopy; he is glad that both have come out of the leaves as normal men, Hector still wearing his white jacket he had worn a while earlier in the day, when the sun still hasn't shown up in the skies. The young man he is currently grabbing by the wrist is also still the same, no decay in his skin present.
[break][break]It's strange... he should be feeling something right now, considering his companion to be a lich beast and creature of the underworld... sure enough, though, once he grabbed his wrist he could almost feel himself shivering, either from fear or the discomfort, but overall as they continue running away from the crowd of the park starting to gather at the canopy he could tell nothing more of his feelings but determination. They needed to run away, or they'd get caught. That's always the problem if you're a shifter who can turn into a bestial wild animal... like say, both a tiger and wolf.
[break][break]While they are at it, he hears the other man tease him from behind; Hector instinctively whips his head to him and stops, with a sharp glare direct to his face. "Are you kidding me?! Sending a tiger to a zoo or animal sanctuary is just equivalent to arresting you and sending you to jail! Now come on!" He grabs his wrist again and continues running, rolling his eyes at the man's second statement. "We're not gonna stop running unless we get to some place safe, where we can continue our duel, mister."
[break][break]But it was only then until he realizes what they had talked about a while ago; the other is very allergic to the sun, and gets weak if ever he so much as stares at it. This almost makes Hector panic for the other's welfare, but that is until he spots a shadowy area just near a couple of large buildings huddled against each other. And so he directs himself and the other man there, stopping once they finally arrive and get covered by the shade of the shadows.
[break][break]Hector pants, gripping his knees tight as he breathes in air in a crouched position. He then turns to the other man apologetically. "S-Sorry... I totally forgot you and the sun don't get along well..." He mutters, scratching his head. "Argh, running in a panic just makes me forget about stuff more and more. Again, I'm sorry for this... umm..." He stops, having also forgotten that the other literally hadn't given his name yet. And so he turns to him and raises an eyebrow, expecting an answer.
When Meredith stopped and turned to him with a glare in order to explain his panicked actions, Grayson's expression shifted from that of humor to some mixture of horror and rage as it dawned on him. He did no further teasing as the younger boy continued to drag him along, simply thinking on the subject for the moment.
When he was finally led into a sort of shady area between buildings, he didn't immediately realize they had stopped, still stuck in his thoughts. Leaning against a building as his wrist was released, he was drawn out of his thoughts by the tiger's voice. "Ah... It's no big deal." He spoke, waving away the issue with the sun, then giving a pointed look. "That aside, that thing you said about zoos and shit. Were you being serious? People will just arrest shifters for existing??" He questioned, the rage once again showing in his expression.
When he was growing up, he and his brothers had always kept to the shadows for other reasons, so he could only assume maybe it was something he'd just never encountered for himself. That went double after his death-- his undead wolf appearance stood out too much for him to use it out in the open. Still, there were so many different kinds of shifters, he couldn't fathom the idea that some would be discriminated against simply because their shifted form happens to be a dangerous animal.
When Meredith paused, Grayson blinked as he realized the issue, then chuckled. He figured it was alright to share, this time around. "Grayson." He spoke, crossing his arms over his chest. "Don't go spreading rumors about me, mm?" He mused, though he was sure this boy wasn't the type. "Also, you may have misunderstood my issue with the sun. As long as I've got eye protection, I'm completely fine. It's just that any bright light, the sun especially, will blind me. And, well, hurt. A lot." He explained, then gesturing towards the sunglasses. "I don't typically like letting people know about this, but as long as these don't fall off, I should be fine. Of course, I can't wear them while shifted..."

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] Earlier, he thought his words are simply a joke to the other man, but that is until he mentions shifters being imprisoned does he already seem to take it seriously. Hector does not have time to acknowledge his change of expressions, though; he grabs on to him and keeps running. People would be flocking the canopy soon, in search of the said "tiger" being raised as an alert. That is Hector's most lucky guess; exactly enough reason for them to get away.
[break][break]They finally arrive after running for long minutes, Hector apologizing to the other man for forgetting his unpleasant relationship with the sun. But then, "it's no big deal", he says, but for Hector it's just as big a deal as being caught. It will affect the lich beast's health, that's something he learned from what he had told him earlier; or at least just his eyes. But still.
[break][break]The other brings up the topic of shifters being arrested, and Hector sighs at this; there's no better way of trying to convince him. Hector notices that he's pretty riled up with all of it, but he would still explain to him, anyway. "Well, if they catch you turning in public, or if they mistake you for a mere beast and not a shifter, then it's most likely to happen to you," He begins to explain, running a hand through his disheveled white hair. "If you are most harmless, they'd probably let you go after some reassurances that you are no threat to society. But it rarely ever happens; they'll keep you in cages if they are to determine you as dangerous. So best safe than sorry." He explains further with a shrug.
[break][break]All of this is... partly true. While it doesn't happen to most shifters, he's seen others being captured as animals and taken to shelters to trap them in there. It's probably what will happen to his grandparents if they hadn't gotten away. The mere idea of him being in a glass cage for just being mistaken as a tiger is... terrifying to think of. One would probably even wish to die for not being allowed to run around.
[break][break]He introduces himself as Grayson -- Hector almost quirks an eyebrow at the reveal. He almost thought he would either name himself something cooler than that... though not to say Grayson isn't cool either. "...Well. Nice to know you actually do have a name. Makes it easier for me to call you something." He says with a small chuckle. Hearing his next words, Hector simply nods in understanding, leaning against the wall with a soft huff. At least he's learned something more from the guy... but then again, it doesn't stop him from worrying.
[break][break]A few moments of silence and he turns to Grayson with a small smirk. "So... should we be going now?"
Though it was a relief to hear that it wasn't a common thing, it still bothered Grayson greatly to hear that it happened at all. To lock someone up on the pretense that they could be dangerous, with nothing to back it up? If anything, it was abduction. "That's fucked. I mean, I understand fear, and it would make sense if someone saw a rotting wolf and immediately decided it needed to be detained, but a tiger just hanging out in the middle of the city? Come on. What kind of idiot wouldn't consider it being a shifter?" He huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. Having grown up intentionally separating himself from society, it wasn't uncommon for him to come across something new to hate people for.
Seeing the other's reaction to his name, Grayson smirked and gave the other a pointed look. "What's that look for? Did you expect me to have some flashy name, like Bartholomew or some shit?" He joked, then shaking his head. Honestly, anything else would have been better. It drove him insane whenever anyone pointed out the irony of his name referencing the only color he was capable of seeing. At this point, he just avoided letting anyone know he was colorblind.
"Hmm, I suppose so." He replied to the question, glancing out into the open to make sure there wasn't actually anyone pursuing them. "Perhaps we should keep the beast forms out of it, for the next match."

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] Grayson's disagreement to the idea of imprisoning wild animals who have gone astray in the city was not something the general populace would agree with. Wild animals have a strong possibility of causing havoc around human residences, and it's a culture always believed to be true. Even if that means the animal is actually just a shifter in disguise, none of his kind is still safe from iron bars. It's a deemed "rehabilitation", to trap animals in the zoo before letting it go in the wild a few years later once it is sure to be a non-threat to society. Hector could find himself agreeing very much to the other male, however. Such actions are uncalled for and not justifiable.
[break][break]"And that's the reason why our kind sometimes hate mortals," He stated quietly, closing his eyes as he tries to remember his grandparents' words to him from when he was younger. "Their ridiculous beliefs have caused them to harm others who are the true innocent ones. But no one is perfect, after all."
[break][break]Once he reveals his name to him and once he gives his insights, Hector receives a smirk and a look from the other man, and he finds himself laughing at his statement. "Bartholomew? Eww. That wasn't the name I've been thinking about, I'll have you know." He states, still chuckling at the name stated as it remains inside his mind as comic relief. He suddenly starts walking away with a teasing wink. "Although, you are pretty much worthy of being called such name."
[break][break]They turn back to the how they should continue the battle; Hector ends up blinking once Grayson declares they should put their animal forms out of the next round. His cheeks glow red and he looks away, rubbing the back of his neck. "...Now that's just difficult." He grumbles, still not having the courage to face the other. "I'm not experienced with fighting outside of my animal form. If I'm to predict the outcome if we engage in human fighting, you are definitely going to come out the winner." He states, closing his eyes and perking his head up. "Long story short, I'm a noob at fighting with human fists and feet."

"So what was the name you had in mind, then?" Grayson countered with a smirk of his own. It would be interesting to know what kind of name went along with his face. The smaller boy certainly didn't look like a Meredith right off the bat. Though he supposed there weren't many men that could look like a Meredith. "Hah, what's that supposed to mean?" He responded to the following taunt, crossing his arms over his chest. "Well, I'll take it as a compliment. Bartholomew is a warrior's name, after all." He mused, dismissing the tease with a wave of his hand.
He listened as the other explained he lacked battle prowess in his human form, not immediately responding as he paused to think on it. "...Well, then. That's simply an oversight on your part, isn't it?" He spoke, glancing over the other. "It's not like you can just turn into a tiger whenever some street thug threatens you. They would have to lock you up, then." He continued, with a nod. "But that doesn't mean you have to use human fists or feet, either, now does it? You showed me earlier that you can do partial transformations. You don't have to rely on that fragile little fist of yours, when you smack someone up with a tigers claw." He pointed out, clearly amused by the image.
"I thought that was the staple of most shifters, honestly. Using the best parts of the beast, without becoming the beast. If you're not experienced with that sort of thing, I have to suggest you start working on it."

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] Grayson asks him which name he had really thought of for him, and he chuckles heartily, shaking his head. "I... dunno. I forgot." He responds with a shrug, pointing his nose upward as if to try and remember. "I think it was along the lines of... Alexander? Or something cool, like Kian?" Now he was only listing names. Of course, they were all ridiculous, which further confirms that Grayson (or Bartholomew) fits him best than most.
[break][break]Bartholomew is indeed a warrior's name, Hector could agree. He nods instinctively and understands why he shook the tease as a compliment. "True, true." Grayson is certainly a fighter, but a warrior for which side he is not sure. He may be fighting for good or bad, or for none of them at all.
[break][break]It's startling, really, when one is able to turn into a ferocious beast such as a tiger, but still is not able to fight with their fists and feet. Sometimes Hector wished he could. But he was born with a rather skinny stature, something that would absolutely hinder him if he ever got himself in a hand-to-hand combat. But his tiger always cooperates whenever he needs it; while he could not fight as a human, once his thin arm changes into a tiger's, enemies will surely run away or stay and fight. He had tried it before, but due to the fear of disfiguring himself he has never done it again.
[break][break]This brings him to Grayson's lecture, something he absolutely takes note of. Grayson is lucky to have fighting experience while not being able to shift, so it should be easy telling him this. But it's certainly a skill that Hector needs to master. He's done it before but he's never had a chance to try it again, all because of a fear of twisting his own body parts.
[break][break]Once the older male is done speaking, he nods quietly and sighs inwardly to himself. "...You may be right." The only words he could say once he realizes another person is right, oh the horror... "I've had fears about it making me look like a twisted doll once I do so, but I'll be sure to try." He smiles at the black-haired male; not a teasing one, but something much more sincere than a while earlier.
"'Something cool,' you say. My name doesn't need to be cool, I'm plenty a badass, as I am." Grayson mused in turn, though now wondering for himself whether another name would have fit him better. Well, it wasn't like his parents could have known whether he'd grow into the name, or not. He could only blame their naming sense and be done with it. Now that he thought about it, his brothers' names weren't much better...
Seemingly relaxed in the shadowed area, Grayson watched Meredith, allowing him time to think on what he had said. The other hadn't immediately dismissed it as others had the tendency to do when lectured-- it was clear he was thinking seriously on what he could do to improve his abilities. It was a good trait to have, to use criticism to become better.
"A twisted doll..?" Grayson repeated, pausing as he tried to think on the matter from the other's point of view. Having once been a Lycanthrope, he had grown up entirely used to the concept of his body breaking and twisting into something monstrous whenever he took on his feral form. He'd always known he would be able to return to normal so it hadn't been an issue.
"Ahh... No problem." He replied to the thanks a bit awkwardly, rubbing at the back of his neck. It had been a good while since anyone had smiled at him like that. He wasn't sure what sort of expression he should be wearing in return.
"Maybe this will help... Instead of thinking of it as your own body twisting when you shift parts like that, you should be thinking of that part as a weapon. Not a part of yourself, but a tool that you're wielding. The same as holding a knife, yeah? Or iron knuckles."

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] Hector snorts at him with a smirk, but does not say anything more. Names are a weird thing. Most times people are accustomed to it, but some don't like the name assigned to them from birth. Too be honest, he was rather proud of his name, but combine it with Meredith and others would immediately think his parents are weird for naming him like that. But Meredith is a surname, something people should know. He doesn't have to put up with such situation, however. He has no time to argue about that.
[break][break]He hears Grayson mutter, and he nods with a pout. "Yes. A twisted doll." It's a rather childish fear, as all shifters are supposed to be accustomed to the art of transfiguring one's body parts into that of an animal you were born to shift into. But it's a personal fear that always grips on Hector like a claw, and he can't do anything about it. Only when someone manages to comfort him can he shift properly like this. He's fine with turning into a full tiger, but working with his arms turning into the tiger's parts... there's a hidden fear always stuck there.
[break][break]Grayson's advice is more than needed.
[break][break]The older male's words fall on him like rocks that hit him in the head, and fill up the sore spots that can be established as fear. He takes a deep breath and looks at his hand. Be calm. Be patient. He tells himself, and he closes his eyes and heaves another deep breath. Think of it as a weapon. He repeats in his mind, the very phrase that might help him in this situation.
[break][break]A blue light surrounds his very arm and it starts to reform shape. From the pale skin that inhabited him, it starts to change into fur, with fingers adorned with sharp claws that could tear a single man apart. In a matter of seconds, it disappears abruptly; Hector's eyes slowly flutter open only to find his arm replaced by that of a tiger's.
[break][break]He chuckles nervously and swallows his own saliva, slowly turning to Grayson. "O-Oh god. The bones, I can feel them from here." He mutters to himself, before heaving a third deep breath to calm himself down. "But it's all good. I've reminded myself of the things you said... though it still makes me quite nervous."

Grayson watched Hector with interest, his lips curved into a slight smile. He couldn't help but notice the irony in the advice he was giving-- Usually when someone was learning to use a weapon, they were told to think of it as an extension of their body. Yet, here he was, saying the exact opposite. Either way, from the focused expression on the other's face, he had to assume the words helped, which was really all that mattered. He could tell it wasn't easy for the boy, as he also looked about ready to start hyperventilating.
Soon enough, however, he took note of Meredith's arm gradually changing into something entirely different. In no time at all, it had been replaced with the large paw of a tiger. He had to admit, it wasn't quite as intimidating when attached to that childish face, but he was still impressed. "Wow... You know, most people wouldn't be willing to face such a deep fear so quickly. That was very good." He praised as he looked back to the large paw, knowing it wouldn't be fun to be hit by that. Shifters were nothing to trifle with, even when only partially shifted.
"I think you can get the hang of it in no time if you're willing to keep at it. You just need to get used to trusting your body, is all." He mused, patting the other boy on the shoulder in encouragement. It kind of reminded him of helping his brothers through problems, way back when. Though somehow different. Either way, it was nice to have a positive interaction with someone. He actually felt normal, to an extent.
"Now simply put your weapon away." He spoke, to resume his encouragement. "The same as sheathing a blade."

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] A tiger's paw is anything but fun to play with. It's probably the animal's most dangerous weapon, especially once the claws show themselves. Combine that with Hector, and either they would take it seriously or laugh at such a dangerous thing allowed to be occupied by a childlike man. Hector isn't childlike, at all. Only in the most triggering of moments would he act like a small child. And one of those moments may probably be him shifting his tiger's paw back into its human form.
[break][break]He is met with praise, and that basically just cuts him off of his trance. Turning his head, he chuckles nervously and scratches the back of his neck with his other hand, staring uncertainly at the tiger's paw still displayed like a glove. "Haha, ehe... thank you." He manages, heaving a deep sigh and moving the paw. "It's easy to attack when my hand is in this state, but I just really can't put myself to shift it into... this."
[break][break]Now he trusts his body, that's already pretty obvious. He pouts and gives him a look, but quickly looks away from him and stares back at it with uncertain eyes. Words of encouragement slowly but surely float around his head until they all become phrases that tell him it's going to be fine, he's good, he won't break his bones, he just has to trust himself and his tiger, he just has to trust the older male and get on with it--
[break][break]With a deep sigh, he spoke. "...Here we go." And blue light covers his arm the second time; he flinches slightly as the muscles underneath his skin twist and turn, and he is about to scream and panic but this time he is calm, he won't shout like a child this time even with the fear and the cold sweat running down the back of his head.
[break][break]He blinks, multiple times, until the blue light disappears and he finds his arm back to normal. A smile finds its way through his face, and he moves his fingers; they don't feel painful at all. Had he just been overreacting all this time? "Oh Akari... it's back to normal again." He heaves a soft breath and rubs the back of his neck, closing his eyes. "I should get used to this. It's easier than I thought it would be."
Grayson watched quietly as Meredith focused on returning his hand to normal. It was obvious that the boy wasn't exactly calm, but he knew that seeing for himself that nothing would go wrong would do a world of good. Shifting was in his nature, quite literally. It would just be sad if the other was unwilling to take full advantage of his abilities. Once the blue light faded, and he confirmed the boy's hand was right back to normal, he nodded. Seeing the smile creep onto the tiger's face had him doing the same. "Of course it is." He agreed, shaking his head. "You will get used to it. You see now, there's nothing to worry about." He assured.
"Though I am curious... Why do you only worry when shifting individual body parts, but not when turning into an entire tiger?" He asked, having been pondering it for a good minute. What was the difference? What had happened to ingrain such a specific fear into the other's mind?
"I remember when I was a kid, I was terrified the first few times I watched my parents change form. It was mainly the sounds. The way the bones would crack and shift. Thinking about it, now, I get why something like the could be traumatizing... Anyway, are you ready to try it again?" He asked, looking back to Meredith. He wanted to be sure the boy wasn't going to immediately relapse back into his fears.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] From the corner of his eye he could see Grayson smile at the results of his transformation, much like the same triumphant way he did. He receives more reassurances from the other, which makes him sigh contentedly, but he doesn't find the words to say as a counter. Too be honest, it's nice to have someone older than you and much more experienced to encourage you like this. All he had ever received from his elders were punches in the face and being scolded with harsh words.
[break][break]But then he is questioned about his reactions to different transformation cycles; he sighs and closes his eyes, staring at the ground and tapping his foot, as if trying to remember why. "...It's very different when you transform into a full tiger versus your limbs transforming into an animal's, you can say." He begins, swallowing his own saliva as he leans his head against the wall of a building just next to them. "I mean, it's hard to explain, but for me transforming into a full tiger is... less painful, because I can't feel my muscles and bones changing. They just... transform altogether and it isn't a slow process, unlike doing it with only your limbs." He lifts a slightly shivering arm and glares at it. "It's... more easier."
[break][break]He listens as Grayson narrates the fear he had of his parents as a child, and whenever they transform. Hector had felt the same way. His parents transform as tigers all for the sake of making him cry; it was more than a pleasant memory, something Hector is definitely not ready to relive. So instead he just nods, but doesn't say anything of the matter.
[break][break]His attention is drawn back to the older male once he asks if he's ready to try it again; Hector looks at him with a slight hint of worry in his eyes, but this time he is surely ready for the next try. He closes his eyes and sighs, shaking his head to try and clear his mind from any nervousness. "...Yeah. Yeah, I'm ready." Hector mumbles, worried expression changing into a determined look. "But don't we have to go to a new location first? I'd be willing to try again in a much more secluded place than this."
