Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] This is the story of how a cat and dog managed to not kill each other upon first meeting.
[break][break]Hector decided it was best to stroll around the city once more, getting quite tired of writing 10 chapters in a new book he was working on. He had lots of ideas, but if he doesn't compose his mind yet his brain would surely malfunction and that would cause him a major case of writer's block. The shifter looked around the suburbs and raised an eyebrow. There weren't that much people around here, he noticed. Or at least people who came outside to start a new day. Maybe it was still too early, but still. He loved walking around on an early morning.
[break][break]The white-haired man smiled and kept walking, not really paying attention to where he was going to go. It wasn't common for him to just wear a hoodie, because that wasn't his style at best, but damn was it really cold those hours ago. He sighed and put his hand on his pockets, closing his eyes and getting himself lost in his thoughts.
[break][break]Let's see... I'm done with the park, and I'm done with the beach... perhaps I should go to the library next.
[break][break]Thoughts were disrupted when he suddenly felt himself bumping into someone. His eyes quickly jolt awake, and he looks at the person he bumped into, a panicked and apologizing expression on his face. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" He exclaimed, putting both hands up. "I swear, I didn't mean to. I'm sorry..."
It had been a somewhat long night for Grayson. A long, fruitless, irritating night. Again, he'd thought he'd found a lead that get him somewhere in this damned forsaken town. Again, he'd reached a dead end, as it turned out to be nothing more than hearsay. He'd wandered far out of his comfort zone following that rumor, into areas of the city he'd tried to avoid. Places that actually looked safe to walk around at night. Of course, nowhere was truly safe to walk, at any part of the day. The terrors made sure of that.
He was on his way home, now. Or so he'd thought, three hours prior. He knew he'd been walking a suspiciously long time, but it was only as he actually took note of his surroundings that he realized... Well, he probably wasn't walking the right direction. He'd never been the type to get lost before, but... Well, he was pretty unfamiliar with the general layout of the city. Thin, dirty streets and alleyways he could navigate just fine, but this... Well, it was clear from what he was looking at, he didn't belong here. Up and down the street to stood, there were houses. Not the 'houses' he was used to seeing that consisted of little more than shacks, no. These were proper houses. The kind that proper families lived in. They were just missing the white picket fences.
Cringing as he realized just how out of place he'd put himself, Grayson was so caught up trying to figure out where he'd taken the wrong turn, he didn't hear the light footsteps behind him. So naturally, as he felt the sudden force of impact, he was instantly in retaliation mode, twisting around to face his 'attacker' with a snarl. The anger didn't last. Honestly, it couldn't. Instead of some violent attacker, he'd been faced with this panicked child, repeatedly apologizing for the collision.
Stunned for the moment, Grayson had to force himself to drop the 'attack mode' he'd gone into, though he clearly remained on alert. "Stop that." He spoke with a grunt, though realizing he'd probably startled the boy just as much as he'd been startled, himself. "Stop apologizing. If you've done something wrong, you respond with actions, not words." He continued in a scolding tone. It was something he'd often said to his brothers. Face with what he assumed was a youngin', he'd automatically brought it up once more. "...Not that you've actually done something wrong." He added, knowing it really wasn't that big a deal. "Just pay for attention to your surroundings. Go home, kid, it's dangerous to be wandering around at night like this." He huffed, figuring the other lived in the neighborhood he'd wandered to.
It was only then that he considered-- kind of tall for a kid, wasn't he?

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] He heard the stranger -- who was apparently male, based on his voice -- telling him to stop apologizing, so he did as was told; he shut his mouth and lowered his head in shame. "I'm sorry..." He mumbled softly, scratching the back of his head; hopefully the other wouldn't hear him so he wouldn't need to tell him off again. He was then lectured about the proper way to apologize; this made him raise an eyebrow and look up at the stranger.
[break][break]Wait... why the hell is he treating me like a...
[break][break]He was then told to go home, since it was dangerous to loiter around at night. Of course it was, but it wasn't as if it was night; it's just 12:32, is all. Nothing was better than walking around... for him, at least. He could also say the same to the stranger, but he felt like he didn't have the right to tell him the same thing after bumping up to him a while ago.
[break][break]...No.
[break][break]...and calling me a... kid?
[break][break]Looks like he did have the right to tell him off.
[break][break]Hector blinked at the stranger, not pleased about being called a young boy, before coughing and clearing his throat. "Umm. Excuse me sir, I think you may be mistaken." He began, the apologizing tone from earlier replaced by a stern tone. "I'm 21-years old and am capable of taking care of myself. Again, I'm sorry for bumping into you." He added.
[break][break]"But there was no need calling me a kid."
His expression still stern as the other spoke, Grayson paused, narrowing his eyes as if to examine the more more closely. Upon finally speaking, it was clear he wasn't convinced. "...Are you sure?" He spoke, his lips curling into an amused smirk. "Is your face aware of this?" He continued, unable to help himself. Height aside, the brat honestly gave off the impression of a child. Probably had something to do with all that apologizing.
Once he was done teasing, he shrugged. "Alright, my bad. Now we're even." He concluded. Looking at him, now, it seemed a lot more obvious that he wasn't a child, but... It was still a little difficult to believe he was only a year younger. "Still better be careful. Someone might make the same mistake and kidnap you." He mused, raising a hand to scratch at the back of his neck. "Mm... If you're so capable, then, how about helping me out? I'm not familiar with this part of the city. How do I get to the outskirts from here?" He asked, not one to be too prideful to ask for directions.
"Don't call me sir, either." He added, though offering no alternative. The kid didn't need to know his name. It was just weird to be called 'sir'. "I don't doubt that you can take care of yourself." He definitely doubted it. "But you should still head home as soon as you can. It's not worth the risk to be wandering around with your head in the clouds at this time of night."

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] The man starts teasing him, asking him if he was sure about his age and if his face of all things was aware of this. "Yes, I am sure enough." He simply replied with an irritated tone. Though when Hector thought about it, it was also quite undeniable that he did have a young face. Not really fit for a 21-year old to have, but still...
[break][break]Then the other man cools down on the subject and concludes that they both are even, with Hector simply nodding at this without saying a word. He still tells him to be careful with himself, though, and Hector just nods once more, though he didn't like the idea of being told to be careful twice.
[break][break]He then asks for help to go to the outskirts of the city, piquing Hector's interest. Well, that was probably one way to cool the situation down. Hector smiled and nodded at the request. "Sure thing, I'll help you out. I was actually just going for a walk in the dead of night." He said, then stepped forward. "Follow me."
[break][break]He tells him not to call him sir, and he chuckles. "Then what else should I be calling you if I don't even know your name, then?" He asks with a teasing tone. Then he shook his head and smiles. "I kid, I kid." He was then told the third time to head home this night and keep himself safe. "Heard you the second time." He pouts, then turns to the man with a questioning look on his face. "How about you? Shouldn't you be going home yourself?"
[break][break]It was then he realized that he was asking a way for the outskirts of town. "Oh, right. I forgot. You want to go to the outskirts." He giggles after this. "Well then, just follow me. I'm sure the way is around here somewhere."
Though Grayson was visibly amused by the boys annoyance towards his teasing, it soon fell into a look of displeasure of his own. He wanted directions, not a guide. He never felt comfortable walking alongside others at night. If something went wrong or they were attacked, was he to feel obligated to protect the other? It was obvious he disliked the idea.
Still, it was also unlikely that anything would actually happen. He needed to help, so he had to take it in whatever form in came. Sighing, he nodded and began following after the boy. "You don't need to call me anything." He spoke, his voice gruff. It was easier for him to Lurk around the city, the less people knew his name. "You're free to tell me yours, however." He added with a smirk.
"Don't get pissy at me for telling you to be safe." He spoke with a huff, his hands shoved into his pockets as he walked along side the boy. All of his other senses were focused on their surroundings, just in case anything else decided to peek out of the shadows. "If you go for night walks often, then whatever, but it's only common sense to be on your guard, not with your head shoved up into the clouds, bumping into people."
"If I'd been some kind of serial killer, you'd be dead." He pointed out, quirkiness a brow. After all, the town apparently knew no shortage of serial killers.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] He was probably not pleased about being guided around, making Hector smirk to himself. Well, he has no choice. He'd just have to stick around until he's out in the outskirts, finally. The young man checked his watch, then looked up at the sky. Still 1 o'clock at night, eh? How early. He thought to himself, lowering his arm.
[break][break]From behind him, the other one states that he doesn't have to call him anything, but is free to tell him his. He raises an eyebrow with a smirk, then turns to the young man. "Meredith." He states with a small chuckle. "Strange, isn't it? Meredith, a name for a man. Sounds really gay, but I like it." He added with a wink.
[break][break]Too bad I don't give off my name freely to strangers except a select few.
[break][break]He glares in annoyance at the other man for reminding him to take care of himself again, but doesn't oblige and sighs with a shrug of his shoulders. "Like I said. I can take care of myself. And I'm not being pissy at you for reminding me to take care of myself." He shrugs one shoulder with a pout. "I go for night walks when I want to, though, so there's probably nothing you can do about that."
[break][break]He chuckles at the young man's next statement and smirks with challenge in his eyes as he turns to him. "Ooo, really?" Hector croons, then chuckles a bit. "I'm glad you aren't, then. Besides, if you were a serial killer, I could kill you off easily myself or just injure you a bit."
"... How could a name sound gay? It's a name." Grayson questioned with a raised brow. Though he could admit, it was an unusual one for a man. He shrugged a bit. "Not a bad name." He added, idly wondering if it'd even been a real name he was given. Walking along next to the other, he sighed softly. It was ridiculous, to get himself so lost, he had to ask for help. He could navigate dark streets and back alleys no problem, but get him into the suburbs and suddenly he couldn't tell north from south.
Now that he thought about it, the name seemed familiar. Where from, he hadn't the slightest. "You're definitely getting pissy about it." He teased, looking towards the other with a smirk of his own. He wasn't going to question it, if the boy insisted he could handle himself. At Meredith's following words, his smirk grew into a toothy, lopsided grin. "Ohh..? Was that a challenge, runt?"
It didn't matter to him how little sense it made to call someone nearly the same height as him a runt. He already had the idea that the older was small ingrained in his mind. "I'd like to see you try." He continued, looking maybe a little too eager. It wasn't everyday someone casually claimed they could so easily kill him, so of course he had to know exactly what sort of ability the boy was hiding.
"How are you going to kill me, Meredith?" He continued to taunt, all grins. It wasn't a mocking grin at all-- he didn't doubt Hector's claims. He just really wanted to see for himself.

[attr="class","jawntatrttri"]
[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] The man behind him comments about his name, and for the first time in this conversation Hector raises one of his eyebrows, a feeling of uncertainty and others clouding his mind. That's the first time he's ever heard of a comment like that... usually when people here his alias they would find it weird, but won't oblige and would simply brush it off as a name. Hector would also protest about it too. Now he wasn't sure what to say back at him; appreciate it or just shrug it off?
[break][break]...Hector just smiles and turns to him, bowing his head. "Why, thank you. That's one of the nicest comments you've given me so far." To him that remark would look quite sarcastic, but in all honesty Hector was being genuine about it. Not in all these years would he suddenly just receive a comment like that about his alias, so it was nice.
[break][break]There was a challenging tone present in the other's voice at his next words. Being called a runt, he turned his head to him with a glare. "Just so you know, I'm tall enough to be your brother." He then turns away with a smirk after being told to try it. "Oh, sure. Whenever you want to."
[break][break]The other's question makes him grin. "Ohoho... you don't know what I'm capable of~" He coos with a grin to the other male. "Though I probably need to tell you, I'm not a human~" He added with a wink, grazing his index finger through his mouth in a shushed manner.
"--It's not like I'm fuckin' trying to be nice." Grayson huffed, his shoulders tense as the other seemed to be mocking him. He wasn't sure what to think. On one hand, the younger man actually seemed pleased. On the other hand, who the hell would be that happy over a damned name? He had to be mocking him. Either that, or he was just really weird. It could be either one, honestly.
At the following retort, Grayson quirked a brow at the boy, frowning. "Tall enough to be my brother? That doesn't make any fucking sense, my youngest brother is, like, half my size." He huffed in annoyance, as if Meredith could have possibly known that. In all honesty, that brother hadn't actually hit puberty, yet, the last he saw him, so there was no telling how tall he'd grown, at this point. As the comment was followed by another retort, Grayson smirked, pausing in his step.
The boy certainly seemed cock as he taunted him. Not a bad thing. In Grayson's eyes, it was almost endearing. People were rarely willing to talk to him like that, let alone take his challenge. "Ohh, is that so?" He spoke as the boy let him in on his secret, clearly only growing more eager with the new information. His tongue flicking over his sharp canines, he leaned in close with a low, almost threatening voice. "Neither am I."

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] He could laugh at that statement, really. It's really weird though, to be happy only for a small name. Hector had almost forgotten the fact that Meredith was also his last name, so it was okay to introduce this said name to the other male. It was also okay that finally his last name and alias was acknowledged with only the slightest bit of reactions, so... it was probably weird and not weird to be happy about it at the same time...?
[break][break]The other male then contradicts his statement about brother, and he smiles teasingly. "Ooo, is that so? He must be shorter than me, then." He states, giggling to himself at this statement. Too be honest, it was amusing enough for Hector to be talking about this man's siblings. Maybe he was just the same height as him and shorter than his brother, then.
[break][break]Hector hears the man croon from behind him, then states that he was the same -- not a mortal. The young white-haired man turns and pauses from walking, staring at the man with the same challenging look on his face. He smirks at his last statement, his eyes suddenly turning to that of an animals. Hector grins a toothy grin, tilting his head.
Rather enjoying the stand-off with the other, Grayson's grin remained as he observed the change in the boy's eyes. He could tell it was animalistic in nature, but he could still only guess at what he was. Either way, it had been a long time since he'd been able to challenge anyone in such a casual, if not playful, manner. Most of the time, it was when he was pissed, and usually ended in bloodshed. But there was nothing truly threatening to this. It was kind of fun.
"You keep saying that, but you've yet to prove it." Grayson taunted, raising a large hand with his nails beginning to look a lot more like claws. His eyes somewhat shimmered in the light of the early morning. Typically, he wasn't one to linger out to this time of day. As the light of the sun hindered his already limited vision, he'd taken to avoiding it. It was a weakness. Something he despised, for sure. It was during the night, that he thrived.
"You're a shifter, aren't you?" He eventually guessed as he continued to observe the other male. There wasn't much to go off of, but he had a feeling. "I want to see, then. Show me your other form." He spoke, though it sounded more of a demand than a request. He was bad about that. Always had been, really.
"Hell... I'll show you mine if you show me yours." He soon added in a joke of poor taste, followed by a short laugh.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] The young man stares at the other one intently, a mischievous grin curving up his lips. He should've known sooner, this guy wasn't a mere human at all, like he said. Why else would a person be walking around at night when they were supposed to sleep? Well, Hector was supposed to be back home, but it wasn't like there was any fun in the house anyway. He wasn't a mere human, either, so maybe there was an exception. At least for Hector.
[break][break]He watches as the dark-haired man shows him his claws, and Hector's grin widens at the remark. "Ooo, so you really want me to prove it to you then?" He asks with a somewhat teasing tone in his voice. "You wanna go, then?" His fingers also sharpen as he says this, about to reveal sharp claws if he ever pulls out his hand from his jacket pocket.
[break][break]"Haha, smart man you are!" He claps his hands in unison after he questions whether he is a shifter. "But yes, I am a shifter. I guess others can already tell just by looking, no?" Pulling out his hand, he reveals the tiger claws that had been hidden a few moments ago in his pocket.
[break][break]Hector playfully pouts once the other demands to show him his other form. "Aww, patience. I'm not just gonna show you my other half that easily." He says, grinning.
[break][break]"Well, now. I guess that's a deal, then." He nods and chuckles at the other's joke. "How about this. You and I will show each other's true forms. In unison."
Grayson couldn't help but laugh again as the other retorted with his own suggestion, shaking his head. He couldn't help but think it sounded even more like an innuendo. He wasn't sure why he'd even started this-- He typically avoided changing forms until it was absolutely necessary. The adverse affects of his plague ability gave enough reason for that-- even if it was rather different from the ailment caused by most other lich beasts.
Still, he couldn't back down after being challenged. He wasn't the type to even consider it. "Mm, here probably isn't the best place for this. Find us a place not in the middle of a neighborhood, and then we can play." He mused, glancing down at the other's claws. He was trying to guess what sort of animal the claws belonged to. They seemed feline, but it was difficult to tell.
Chuckling to himself as he looked back to the younger looking boy, he turned to continue walking. Perhaps they could find a park or sorts. somewhere away from other people, with an open space. He didn't want to cause any trouble for any possible bystanders, with the vertigo that resulted from his plague effect.
"You're an interesting kid, aren't you. Normally people would be a little more cautious with these matters, don't you think?"

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] Hector grins once the man makes his suggestion, then nods in agreement. He's right, in a way; public places like this aren't perfect to show off your true abilities. There's a possibility that bystanders would report the matter to authorities and would cause an uproar, maybe the death of him someday if they had to exaggerate it. It doesn't help that the sun is about to rise in the horizon. A private or lonely place would be good enough.
[break][break]"Alright, then. Let's go somewhere else." He agrees with a nod, following the other man as he continues walking through the street. There were lots of places they could go without ever causing much interest from other people. The battlefields was a good bet, or Calico Forest, or even Crow Feather Park if there aren't any people around. However, he would let the other man decide for now. This was his idea after all.
[break][break]As the dark-haired man speaks once more, Hector chuckles heartily then turns to the sky. The colors were starting to change; from a dark purple hue to a brighter blue mixed thoroughly with orange and yellow all around. He closes his eyes then turns to his companion with a grin. "Why thank you for that compliment." He chuckles once more before continuing. "Huh... I consider myself an exception to that rule, then." His hazel brown eyes glint mischievously after he says that.
